Reading fragrance reviews can become a bit stagnant and repetitive, don't you agree? Writing them in the traditional sense can also be a tad dull as you can only describe vanilla or powder so many ways and honestly as soon as we are done speaking about a scent we move on and that vial and bottle I'm sure becomes quite lonely in a dark wooden box. I don't know about any one else but I'm ready to revisit and fall in love all over again with my collection and I have enough indie fragrances to open a small museum (as my friend and I joke) and I possess way too many weird and dark trivia facts in my head that I can't keep to myself (I'm a real hoot at dinner parties); so let's stir some things up, try something different and have a little fun with all that... Coming next week I'm going to start posting about a random note or historical figure, time period, book character or event of a bygone era and connect that subject to a perfume, jewellery piece, note collage, candle etc. in my collection. I can't pass the chance to share all the fascinating dark or glittering history trivia in my brain so there will be plenty of chances for that as well. Oh, and book recommendations just in case some tidbit sparks an interest and others wish to learn more. For me, a very special saying has stuck with me from my late beloved Pappy, "What you learn is yours forever" and how true that has turned out to be. If the above is something you would like to read it will only be found at @HistoryMagpie on Instagram (yes, I'm on Instagram, heaven help me). No worries about more traditional reviews, those will be found on this humble little page as always, as well with completed haul posts and book reviews. I'm just trying unique writing exercises in 2020 (no promises the accompanying pictures will be any good, you have been warned, haha.) Next week is the first entry which will deal with a delicate bakery scent that is dominated by violets and the historical figure connected with this floral was well-known for her infamous portraits by Franz Xaver Winterhalter, her mysterious eccentricities and floor-length hair; can you guess who it is?✨ First Entry- Sixteen92's Mein Herr Marquis/Empress Elisabeth of Austria, Queen of Hungary Second Entry- MoonaLisa's Aurelia/"L'Inconnue de la Seine" (The Unknown Woman of the Seine)--Valentine edition Third Entry- Wild Scarab's Fabergé earrings/Empress Alexandra (Introduction: I hope to share a special post in June 2020) Fourth Entry- Nui Cobalt Designs' Little Brown Rabbit/Helen Beatrix Potter--Easter edition Fifth Entry- LittleBits/LBCC Historical Apothecary's cosmetics and Boheme Bijou jewellery set/Lady Duff-Gordon Sixth Entry- Werther & Gray's TITANIC candle and Rag N Bone Emporium's custom wall art pieces/Which hymn was heard that April night before Titanic slipped beneath the Atlantic?
