1772 Cold Cream Orange Flower Toilet De Flora Body Cream/Makeup Remover A life-long repurchase reunited once more upon my vanity table. I can't recommend this cold cream enough, it's the best I have found from anywhere, takes on the most stubborn eye makeup (even waterproof just melts gently with this formula), never breaks me out and smells heavenly with a soft orange flower/almost less sweet dreamsicle quality scent. One jar lasts me about 6 to 8 months. This is my choice pick on my vanity table and my favourite part of my morning (after work shift) routine. 1901 Rose Cold Cream- Victorian Recipe/Bulgarian Rose Essential Oil Full honesty- I tried this rose cream once as a traditional cold cream/makeup remover and didn't see the results I always notice with my 1772 Orange Flower jar and promptly switched back, however, I found this thick cream worked wonders on my under eyes, on my cheeks for rough and dry spots and that sublime real rose scent now slathers my elbows and back of my arms before I go to bed. It may have not exactly worked out the way I intended with removing all of my stubborn eye makeup in one easy swoop like the 1772 jar but it still has found a place upon my vanity table and recommendation list. 1918 Violet Massage Cream For The Neck & Shoulders Aphrodisiac/ Makeup Remover Violet Cream This was an impulse purchase that has held several benefits in store but above all it has tremendously helped with my RA hip pain that always springs up with the rising humidity and storms sweeping through this time of the year and tackled my knee and muscle tight/sore spots after intense workouts. That right there says it all. A little dab goes a long way as it's more of a slick textured formula and spreads easily. In terms of scent, if you adore the fragrance of Sixteen92's Hydromancy- meet a cream you can slather to your heart's content with an oddly similar aroma (yes, it can be overpowering on me as I amp this particular floral and I can clearly smell the medicinal almost metal violets when I wake up after rubbing this cream into my skin before falling asleep but it helps my annoying aches and it still falls as a 100% recommendation.) LittleBits/LBCC Historical Apothecary 3 distinct shades and 3 definitive personalities based on 3 fascinating historic women and moods captured in stunning shades of deep roan and pink-blue reds. Absolutely what I have been looking for and I love the vintage packaging ElizaCosmetics presents her recreations in. The formulas are gentle on the lips, deep toned and smell (and taste) wonderful with a smack of cocoa. I can't stop vamping in the mirror and topping it off with a "Boop-boop-a-doop!", haha. Theda- The darkest lady of the trio. This shade was originally a Halloween costume custom purchase last October for my Vampire Flapper idea (RIP that lost night) but one coat and I was completely under her spell, felt transformed and that somber lipstick shade immediately found her way into my makeup casket. It is a true gothic hue of brown-red resembling dried blood and dying roses; perfect recreation of the shades vamps and smokey-eyed silent sirens on the silver screen wore in the earliest days of Old Hollywood. *Inspired by the original Vamp Theda Bara Initially I purchased the nail polish of Theda then had to get the lipstick to match. The formula of the nail polish is impressive lasting several days without chipping and minimal streaking for a deep red-brown colour. Full coverage in about 2 coats but for a richer depth I went for 3 coats. Others commented my fingernails looked like I had dried blood at the tips- perfect! Louise- Slightly more of a lighter hue with say more garnet than maroon in Theda, still dark and mysterious and to be honest the lipstick I grabbed more often through autumn and winter (and even into spring until I was introduced to Marilyn). I never wore such daring shades before trying samples from this little nifty shop and I'm so happy I stepped out of my comfort zone. Being well lily complected to put it nicely (better than saying ghostly pale, haha) I somehow always believed I couldn't wear red lipstick without looking ridiculous or harsh, little did I know it's only the right cast of red that makes the lady. *Inspired by the enigmatic Louise Brooks Marilyn- The newest gal to join my vanity table and one more reason I'm loving to vamp in front of the looking glass these days. This one is a deeper rose pink lipstick that is my personal spring/summer shade (there is a reason this colour is a top-seller). You can never go wrong with anything pink-red I'm finding out this year (wait until I ramble about Progeny from Pariah House Cosmetics coming up; pink is nothing to fear!) *Inspired by the Blonde Bombshell Marilyn Monroe Salome Hair Pomade (scent of Bergamot, Lemon, Orris, Rose, Lavender, Jasmine. creamy Vanilla, Sweet Tonka, Civet, Toffee notes of Opoponax absolute.) In my most recent order I was surprised with a sample of the hair pomade version of Salome and a few twists of strands and pins released later and my softly defined curls waft this powdery musky allure around me that harkens back to the ultimate heyday of glitz and glamour. On me, more creamy lavender is noticed with an underpinning of musky non-gourmand vanilla. Just hypnotic, refined and I love how this formula plays so well with my fine hair that tends to frizz and expand this time of the year. Very impressed. *Inspired by Rita Hayworth Needless to say with all these marvellous self-care, makeup choices I've discovered for myself since January from across the indie realm, I'm ready for what (and whom) may come my way this 2022-2023 Venus Return. Being a child of the Pluto in Scorpio generation I remember the simple days of being entranced and the happiness accompanying opening a big box of 120-count Crayola Crayons. The rows and arrays colours, the scents (don't you dare tell me Macaroni and Cheese didn't smell or taste like the real thing, haha), THE ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES. It was a beautiful time when your imagination was encouraged, and you could just lose yourself for a time creating masterpieces before even more bright colours danced across the television screen from Nickelodeon and catchy Lisa Frank commercials. Boy, we were the neon kids and fantasy generation! Flash forward and work sucks (I know!), life kinda got complicated (Clarissa didn't exactly explain it all) and it's easy to ask where has that simple magic gone from a stick of wax? Sheesh didn't mean to depress anyone there (sorry, that's sort of what our generation has devolved into but hey we have lots of dark insensitive jokes and senses of humour; want us to show our saved search histories? Come on, we aren't ashamed, this one is about a serial killer and a dead clown), what I'm getting at is sometimes you just need to remember what used to bring you joy and entertain us. For me, that was once upon a time bright colours and a blank page where I didn't have to stay in the lines. So colour me happy recapturing that exact little spark of myself this past year I thought was dimmed forever with the end of roller rinks, KB Toys, Butterfinger BB's and the overnight disappearance of Keebler Magic Middles when I found painting and shading on my eyeballs could make me excited and want to get ready for the night. Believe me, never did I think I would associate that feeling with makeup but here we are as baby purchased her first eye palette(s), she's feeling pretty in pink and hey she isn't as miserable and cynical these days (give our generation a little of a break, please). Here are some descriptive "swatches" of my most recent purchases because I stink at taking photos. Buckle up buttercups, this is a whole new world for me and this round is all about Pariah House Cosmetics and the Lunarly Unphased and True Shades palettes and a few shiny shimmery extras. Should start this rambling off with a few tips:
Lunarly Unphased palette 10 panned with a removable tray to fit more magnetic-bottomed single eye shadows and contains a mirror that gives the clever impression of a reflective moon. Additional details are in the artwork around the palette (including the back that contains the names of the shades) from phases of the moon and the shop's logo in the centred outlined in silver. The palette is a lift style and arrived in a useful box for storage. Theme Description and Inspiration: "The Theme and color story was heavily inspired by the art of Marcella Giusela Pace and their depictions of the different colors and phases of the full moon throughout a ten year life span. We took that idea a step further. We tied an element of Magick to the name of each shadow and the color it represents to create a personal and empowering experience" Where to start? These shadows are unlike anything I have ever seen or tried on myself, they are easy to apply with minimal effort as the formulas are powdery-creamy soft and it's a delightful and entertaining surprise in every pan as the tones shift in the light and it's some kind of marvellous modern alchemy at work. This is the perfect beginner palette and colour story. Finally, I respect the simple fact that like the elusive mysterious moon, these shades are impossible to capture on film and hold one in awe throughout the night. Royal Intuition: Looking straight at the pan it's a true royal blue with a sheen and once applied it morphs bluish-purple with hidden green and peach mini sparkles. Anti-Matter: In the pan, Anti-Matter is a nearly purple-black with a hot pink embedded twinkle. This is one of my current favourites as I learn how to transition shades and the power of dark tones against my green eyes. Serves as a great dark colour with some extra sparkle against black eyeliner and can be nicely and easily blended out to create a more dramatic wing look. Unphased: In different light and angles, it goes from dark black blue with breaks of bright brilliant lighter blue underneath and if you turn the palette slightly it goes reddish purple. Applied Unphased is a buildable magenta with bright blue sparkles Ethereal Joy: This one stays consistent as a peachy salmon with dark orange and gold shimmer. I enjoy playing with Ethereal Joy to see how pink or orange I can twist the tones. I think this will suit me very well once I find my elusive pumpkin shade for the upcoming season (and who am I kidding, that shade will be worn throughout the year once I find it). Broken Fire: This pan contains a rich autumnal gold that once applies gives off a pink to red cast. Another great blender type of tone. Fertile Ground: Another favourite of mine from this moon-phased themed palette. I'm not sure the exact magic of how Fertile Ground works against my unique eye colour, but it plays beautifully with the golden hues in my eyes. In the pan, it's bronze against black and applied it holds a green and peach-copper glow under the darker bronze. Crimson Confidence: This was my first ever experience with a red eye shadow and one swipe of this rich satiny red and I was addicted to how it looked so dramatic but was still wearable. Another lovely buildable hue with a punch. Psychic Cycle: Pure liquid silver, more of a stream of melted mercury versus a silvery-white moonbeam tone. Extremely fun to play with and matches practically anything you place beside it or transition with. Tranquil Projections: A lighter navy blue in the pan and once applied the hidden pink, green and peach shimmer shows easily against the darker base. New Moon: New Moon and Anti-Matter are the shadows I use the most out of this palette and whilst one is a darker blackish purple with pink sparkles the other is an iridescent white with a ruby glow; it's almost pearlescent or akin to. This colour story really does capture all the enchanting phases of the moon and the above transitions of the night sky. True Shade palette 4 panned in a hand-sized book (soft closure) type of palette with embossed details on the front, there is a mirror on the inside and the back is also embossed at the corners and contains the names of the shades inside. Very lovely detailing as I have come to find at this shop. They certainly have an "eye" for it (Ha! Thank you, I'll be here all night!) Theme and Inspiration: The show True Blood and the Sookie Stackhouse book series Before dipping a brush into the True Shade palette, I was under the impression I could never pull off such daring tones but the theme (mention vampires and I shall show you my pocketbook) and shades called out to me from nether space and this colour story had to come home. Turns out it all depends on the cast of reds as these are simply stunning in the pan and once applied (they range from a supernatural shimmery white pink-silver to vibrant pink-violet to blood-dried red; these are hues that set off green eyes). One drop of the creamy powder and I was on some fantastic journey further down the rabbit hole of learning how to blend, angles of application that were most becoming on the eyelid, new terms and what colour appeared best (answer- everywhere and they are all compliments each other creating a new me and makes me wanna do (all the) bad things, haha!) Needless to say, this dark little heart couldn't be more pleased and beguiled with this impulse purchase. At The Vamp Bar: A hot rich burgundy that turns dried-blood red once applied. It has a black base which allows the darker red to shift and morph looking more visceral. This one is a showstopper and is aptly named. Progeny: Full confession, I almost didn't purchase the True Shade collection (I have "V" coming with my next order) because of this shade, Progeny looked like something I could never wear but surprise it is one pan I reach for more often than I ever thought. Yes, it is a blazing pink in the pan and I DO have to take care how much I apply on my brush and on my eyes but dare I say, Progeny is quite lovely and becoming with a light purple cast to it depending how the light hits. Okay, another confession I also enjoy it for the simple fact that a podcast (...okay it's vampire and werewolf smut I'll fully admit it, thank god for headphones, haha) I listen to late at night mentions the word "progeny" and I had to have a daring shade to match (Marry me, Milo or atleast manifest in real life, please!) Shifter: Now Shifter is quite unique as in the pan it's a forest green and earthy brown, however one swipe and this one has a sanguine bite you weren't expecting and I do have to swatch this one often to remind myself that it's NOT green, Shifter does have a green look to it once the light hits but it's more brownish-red. Very different and again that creative channel I listen to mentions the word "Shifter" and I'm only too happy to don this shade like a moonstruck Venus in Gemini that I am (we fall in love with voices and accents; judge us as you will, haha). Sookie Slayhouse: Now we have come to THE shade I wear with everything from any collection as this is my favourite pan. It's a delicate silvery white that almost brings to mind a magic mirror effect, that serves me as the ideal highlighter at my brow bone and the inner corner of my eye AND adds the finishing touch of sparkle to any colour; it's simply perfect and something I have been searching years for. ____________________________________________ Single Pans not associated with any collection I currently own: Something Wicked: Out of my entire eye shadow library from Pariah, this is the shade that changed everything for me and has started a whole new chapter in my mindset and wardrobe. In the pan, Something Wicked is an eternal black laced with hints of green and a blood-fire waiting to be unveiled on the lid. Practically any single pigment you choose to pair Something Wicked with it curiously pulls your desired look together and adds a sharp bite to everything. It's a completely transformative experience that is honestly impossible to entirely explain, needless to say, worth every penny. Unicorn Blood: In the pan, Unicorn Blood is a dazzling lilac purple with pink highlights, enchanting on its own but take a dip of the powder brush and it completely morphs to this unexpected light blue with a green cast and then back to lilac at points that goes and matches everything you try with it. Blood never looked this pretty in the light. Another entertaining morpher by Pariah House Cosmetics. Getting ready for work shouldn't be this fun when playing with all of these single and colour stories, haha. Strange and Unusual: This is one eyeshadow that is impossible to ignore as it shifts in different lights from an eerily beautiful dark emerald-green in the pan to a striking grungy peacock-teal on the lid and has a subtle flash of deep violet for an extra spin of a surprise. Strange and Unusual is anything but a regular look and dare I say, it really is showtime with this single. _____________________________________ Create Your Inner Pariah: Custom Shades Now it's time to reveal another facet that makes this makeup house so amazing- they offer custom shades (and lip glosses and nail polishes). You read that right, this is where true self-pampering magic and alchemy is born and forged er rather pressed. If you can dream up a tone, hue or pigment shifting story, Pariah House Cosmetics can pan it. I now own 3 such shadows that range from capturing the alluring blue flash of a moonstone to the delicate golden glow of a rising autumn moon and those are only the beginning as I plan to add to my eye makeup library with yet another series of colour stories by next spring. The process is uncomplicated, stress-free and above all- FUN! Honestly, eye makeup shouldn't be this entertaining to play with or create. The owner loves a challenge and is a delight to work with as she provides stellar customer service and end presentation. This is one venture I can't recommend enough. Pariah House Cosmetics So here's a fun little tidbit of information for the day that hardly anyone will tell you- when you lose weight (say nearly 100 pounds), wrinkles and lines appear overnight it seems. Ugh. Just when you begin to accept yourself, and allow your brain to readjust to an unfamiliar world of found confidence you are confronted in the looking glass with a new level and challenge list and the process of being comfortable with your whole being starts all over again (or intensifies). What's a lady to do? Well either roll over and admit defeat and slink away from prying eyes (maybe even hide behind a stylish leather fan like Empress Sisi did for the rest of her life) or seek out something out of the box or rather out in the garden and that's exactly what I did when I stumbled into the realm of botanical beauty and Jade Forest Co. In truth, "stumbled" may not be the correct way to describe how I found myself a year later with my vanity table displaying such smancy jars and pots filled with botanical skin-loving creams but it sure sounds better than blundered. For you see, I do have the stars above to thank for aligning a bit and throwing some luck my way after a turbulent time as I won a little giftaway on social media last fall and was introduced to this incredible hidden gem of a shop. I received several products in a stunning presentation fashion that were camera ready to show off and heralded something beyond the commercial expectations on the shelves, my favourite ended up being the Nymph's Harvest- Autumn Skin Food Face Cream. I fully admit I was a bit scared to try yet another jar of creams (albeit generously free and a gift of luck) as all my life I have battled sensitive skin and painful blemishes but something seemed different and after having such a delightful conversation with the owner about skin sensitivity and her process of harvesting the ingredients straight from her garden and the laborious further process and research that went into every product, I thought "Okay, one more time". That one more time quickly turned into several frantic searches and purchases and one happy lady beaming in the looking glass. Allow me to invite you to this curious garden of pampering pots, creams and fragrances by describing all I tried and end with one jar I will sing from the rooftops about. Are you ready for a transformation? Part I Nymph's Harvest- Autumn Skin Food- Skin Cream On opening the fancy amber pot (it even arrived with an endearing little golden spoon for scooping out the cream!), a collective medley of sweet blueberry, plum juice, apple skins, sage and the natural green spice of fall harvested meadow plants greet the nose. That relaxing and sweet scent stays and plays with the imagination as the thicker cream melts into the skin and natural body heat amplifies the fruit aroma for a few hours. All very charming but above all, here's the question: did I break out or have any skin reaction? Dear fellow indie wanderers, I now own 2 huge jars now, does that answer your question? This Autumn Skin Food has served as the foundation of my collection from Jade Forest Co. and started the much-needed healing of my troubled skin and scarring. 100% recommended. Crowned Flowers Face Cream During several fascinating and enjoyable conversations with the owner (she is such a sweetheart and I can't thank her enough for putting up with all my questions; never be afraid to ask anything, especially at this storefront), the Crowned Flowers Face Cream was one product that was suggested for my most pressing areas of scarring I was beginning to get self-conscious about which was my jawline. Sadly this beauty cream was not my favourite out of the generous suggestions and may work better for someone who has less visible scarring and pitting. The scent was also not my cup of tea as it reminds me of freshly sliced cucumber (thank you late 90s high school locker lingering nightmares and scent aversions/associations). The consistency is more thin and I did notice less puffiness under my eyes and the skin seemed brighter even after 16-hour shifts and 4 hours of broken sleep. So all was not lost with Crowned Flowers and the little pot is completely empty now. Snow Queen Solid Perfume for skin and hair (Gathered Notes: Gardenia, Jasmine, Paperwhite, White Rose, Baltic Amber, Crushed Snow, Leather, Conifer Boughs, Jupiter Berry, White Cedar, Frankincense, Myrrh, Styrax and Labdanum) Opening each fragrance and product on this website is either a lovely rendition of a folkstory or an imagined tale that accompanies the notes captured in each skin or hair creation. The fable of the Snow Queen is shared and gathered with this solid perfume in a palm-sized snap compact as this is regal and commanding with creamy white florals enfolded in various conifers and a soft leathery amber finish. There is also this almost "sparkling" smoky quality with the resins that is quite majestic and seasonal (although now I am sorely regretting not wearing this scent in my curls for the recent Renaissance Festival that sported the theme of Celtic this following week; Snow Queen would have dazzled even in this muggy heat). At the base is the beeswax that warms to the surface as the hours tick on and this perfume lasts 8 hours on my skin which is very impressive for a solid perfume and up to 15 hours in my tousled mane. For those curious, these types of solid perfumes can easily be added to your tresses with taking a small amount and allowing the natural body heat to melt the wax and oils and then lightly massaging that at the ends of your hair. Autumn Harvest Solid Perfume for skin and hair (Gathered Notes: Chamomile, Helichrysum, Sweet Woodruff, Crystallized Maple Sugar, Cognac Soaked Vanilla Beans, Crystallized Birch Syrup, Cherries, Clove, Nutmeg, Cinnamon Bark, Peru Balsam, Beeswax, Goldenrod, Apple, Sage, Artemisia, Rose, Gardenia and Plum) Mmm if you are a blueberry fiend or have been looking for a non-pumpkin fragrance (the sacrilege, haha!) to welcome in the best time of the year, you have to try Autumn Harvest. This is only one of the fragrant offerings Jade Forest Co. has in their solid perfume catalogue listing that is completely unique and a must-try for autumn-tide lovers and seekers. On me, the fresh blueberries that smell still wet in the pail ready for baking and canning fade first along with the apple skins with a grating of nutmeg and clove then I amp the golden rod, creaminess of the white florals and natural sweetness from the maple syrup, vanilla and beeswax base for about 4 hours on my skin and 8 hours in my hair. I wouldn't say this perfume is strictly a gourmand it's more an assortment of the season in the baking dish and outside the kitchen window- think of the breeze of the last rays of summer giving way to autumn. Very lovely! Violet Ether Solid Perfume for skin and hair (Gathered Notes: Violet Leaf Concrete, Orris Root, Sweet Woodruff, Vanilla Beans, Elderflower, Jasmine, Rose and Hyacinth Enfleurages) This perfume is what I imagine Lily Bart from Edith Wharton's classic The House of Mirth wearing as her audience stares in awe at her natural grace on display and her scandalous choice for her tableaux scene of recreating Reynold's Mrs. Lloyd. She would no doubt seek out something soft and natural with an ethereal regal element to it, a diaphanous incandescent dryad. On me, Violet Ether gently drapes me in a dreamy aura with the slightest hint of a hidden aquatic for 2 hours before needing to be reapplied. In my curls, the scent lingers longer, and the sweet beeswax base and vanilla are more noticeable whilst on my skin the violet and green florals are the shining stars of this perfume. Absolutely gorgeous and a rarity for myself. Lilac Snow Whipped Body Butter I was over the moon when I opened my most recent order and saw a very special birthday surprise of a jar of this body butter nestled among the colourful and gilted trappings this shop loves to sprinkle and brighten customers' days with (thank you so much, Jade!). I wish I could take a proper photo of Jade Forest Co's presentation and labelling because it's something to behold and experience! One of the best packaging and gift-giving-ready displays I have seen in the indie world. Matching the glittering arrangement is a product that is fragrant and works as promised. When it comes to Lilac Snow the opening fragrance is quite unique resembling (to my nose), floral mustard. A few seconds later the downy milky florals begin a metamorphosis that creates a convincing lilac aroma under the impression of "cold snow" and forest trees. Overall a lovely aroma with a curious opening but has a calming powdery floral finish in store. The formula is ideal for dry spots such as elbows, and rough heels and invites snuggles during all seasons. Moon Cloud Sleeping Mask And now we come to THE jar that has reigned over my vanity table when it comes to impressive results and one formula that...well quite frankly is one I want to keep a secret (as well as this Indie treasure) as I don't want this cream to sell out all the time and I won't be able hoard more of, haha. Okay, okay I will be kind and share my new skin obsession that being this sleeping mask that comes in this beaming jar topped off with an adorable little cloud charm and a piece of white agate in the shape of a shiny cloud that you use to scoop out the cream! (I've never seen anything like that before; this is why I love indies). Inside is pure fluffy skin magic that smells to me of powdery liquorice and lavender and has been a balm throughout my own personal transformation. Lines are softening (so much so I can wear my hair back off my forehead again), my cheeks and neck have never been this soft, my complexion looks so dewy and each time I put this cream on and wake I can't help but smile and feel the confidence building as my true self is shining through now. A new chapter has truly begun and I'm ready to step out. This jar is worth every penny and a life-time repurchase for me. Take a wild guess what rare note hardly ever seen or oddly ever dared to be tamed and captured within the indie realm had my full attention when Spirit & Venom announced their Winter 2021 collection. If you guessed CRANBERRY you would be correct! I have a special affinity for cranberry fragrances and I also fell hard for this little shop of delicious horrors and dark whimsy's bath oil and lip balm in 2021 so I had to fill my stocking with all the festive pampering treats. These were my happy thoughts as I slathered and bit away, haha Cranberry Gingerale Bath/Body Oil and Cranberry Fluff lip balm Mmm, I am a little cranberry whore and I don't care who knows it. These are fun and festive pampering treats with the realistic tartness of cranberry cut thru with either the effervescent peppery scent of ginger ale or the taste of melted marshmallows (with a hint of apple). Both formulas are my favourite from any indie shop- the body oil is not only akin to slipping into a shimmery satin nightgown with skin-loving ingredients and maroon mica swirled all through the frosted bottle but the lip balm is the final delicious topping that tackles winter tortured lips or simply those of us who have a bad habit of biting their lips when they are not even aware of it. These really were the perfect self-care gifts I needed this winter. Pear & Brown Sugar lip balm Amazing lip balm recipe but the smell was a bit lacking in the anticipated pear area for me so I gave it to a family member who took one lick and claimed it as hers, haha. I was okay to let that balm go and was delighted to hear not only the taste but the formula worked wonders and impressed such a normally finicky gift recipient. S'more-Hees lip balm This was a repurchase from earlier in 2021 and it's still absolutely delectable and realistic! I get the honeyed graham cracker with a hint of roasted marshmallow more than anything with the scent from the tube but when applied all the promised notes come out and it tastes divine with a buttery smack of the lips. Winter Witch perfume oil sample (White tea, ghostly lilac, winter cranberry, ethereal vanilla, juicy pomegranate, pink peppercorn and a squeeze of pink grapefruit) This was a generous free sample found nestled in my order and I was hoping to get this scent in a future bath/body oil order soon for all the rare notes listed but sadly I get an overbalance of white tea and something reminding me of another scent I tried from this shop that turned out not as a choice pick and I think I will just surrender Winter Witch to a deep conditioning treatment one of these nights and use up the vial. "Sanitize Me" gel hand cleanser in Peppermint Mocha This was a free gift with purchase and this gel cleanser is the best hand sanitizer I have in my purse, it smells incredible of realistic creamy peppermint (another weakness of mine) and melted cocoa AND exceeds the CDC recommendation of alcohol percentage with 70% BUT somehow doesn't dry out my hands! Indie Magic! I also love the mini sparkles that spangle my hands after each use but that's just another added little bonus, haha. Spirit & Venom Olfactory Arts Let's be honest, no living being can completely turn back the horrid hands of time in the looking glass but we can look back on those before us that we admire and find their own special brand of glamour as inspiring and take a few beauty tips from them. It's all about what you see and your own power (and those imperfections that make you unique or tell your life story) and I think that every time I grab a jar or tin from LBCC Historical Apothecary and feel reconnected to lost times and various alluring secrets captured on canvas and photographs. These are my latest additions to my vanity table and have warranted high recommendations just for those above-listed reasons. LIMITED EDITION Night Cream Lily Myrrh Wrinkle Pomatum Skin Moisture Ultra Hydrating Treatment Dark Circle Reducer Firming Eyes Another stellar product from this little charming pampering shop. It smells divine in the jar of powdery lily, honey and sweet resins and the results are equally impressive with a noticeable lightening of worry lines I acquired over the last few years, it also softly smooths out and tames my cheeks with my hereditary Rosacea. It's the perfect marriage of 2 amazing existing formulas of the 1772 Lily Pomatum for Wrinkles Fine Line Salve and the 1896 Cleopatras' Enamel. I hope this night cream comes back in rotation, until then I'll be hoarding this limited treasure. 1931 Flesh Vanishing Cream Healing Soothing Natural Foundation Cream/Makeup Primer I raced through my sample of this rose cream in a week and had to order a full jar, the frosted jar looks right at home on my vanity table, smells heavenly of pressed roses and it really serves as the perfect foundation for my daily makeup routine and blends so well under the 1908 complexion and Regency Era Pearl Powders gently easing the look of scars and worry lines in the mirror and under different lights. A staple now on my vanity table. Highly recommend! LBCC Historical Apothecary/LittleBits Thank you so much PULP Fragrance for the chance to indulge in all these body and bath self-pampering treats. *The following is a combined review between Press Samples and Purchased Orders. Moisture Mist A satiny smooth spritz with fabulous fragrance options. The Mist can be used on your skin or in your hair. In terms of a light hair detangler, the formula adds amazing shine and smoothness to my curls, I do have to take care not to get carried away as the scents are quite addictive however my hair can get overly saturated and get weighed down with one extra spritz (but I'm not mad, haha). The size of the bottle is wonderful as there is enough product for a dozen relaxing sessions of brushing out your manes (well over a dozen sessions for anyone not with waist-length hair). Finally, let's talk about the fragrances themselves... Scents- Drunken Jack (Oak barrels, spiced whiskey, pumpkin, and vanilla sugar.) A smoky boozy and delicious spiced aroma that happily screams autumn and makes you want to get on top of a table in a pumpkin patch and dance while lanterns swing above from haunted trees. It's a must for any fellow self-confessed pumpkin whore. For longevity, Drunken Jack lasts well over a day in my curls and about 10 hours on my skin with more boozy vanilla and hidden maple wafting about. It's no secret Drunken Jack was one of my favourites out of the bunch. Toasted Marshmallow (Sweet, gooey marshmallow with just a touch of caramel and woody smoke) After falling hard for Drunken Jack and the new Moisture Mists formula I immediately added Toasted Marshmallow to my basket in November when PULP reopened its doors. My chemistry loves to amplify caramel notes so, on me, Toasted Marshmallow is a softer but easily discernable butterscotch with fluffy melted marshmallow underneath. The mentioned smoke note is more noticeable on my skin but then fades quite quickly. Still, a delectable option and I love that this (and Drunken Jack) are layering notes and can be added to whatever my brain can conjure or crave that night. Dusting Powder One of my true guilty pleasures in life is dusting powders and happily rolling around like a chinchilla in a fragrant dust bath of gourmands and flowers. It's one of the ultimate self-pampering treats one can buy for oneself, so it shouldn't be a surprise I now own a pretty little row of canisters from PULP Fragrance. The formula is thicker than other shops where the dust will lightly clump but then easily breaks down and rubs right in with a gentle touch, I found a downy makeup puff is ideal for this type of formula and the scents hold amazing longevity and strength. Scents- Drunken Jack (Oak barrels, spiced whiskey, pumpkin, and vanilla sugar). Mmm, I'm tempted to take a bite of my arms and legs how scrumptious Drunken Jack smells on me. Throughout the day when my clothes rub against my skin I get wafts of Drunken Jack teasing me with its playful boozy aroma underneath the thick winter layers. And I love it all the more for that scent staying well into the next few days. Mark of the Moon (Golden Champaka, sweet spices, Peruvian Myrrh, White Copal, Patchouli and Tonka) One dip of the applicator wand and into the basket the dusting powder version of this beautiful esoteric floral went for purchase. This makes me think of a fire moon glowing in the night sky, the baking spices and warm resins marry so well with the creamy golden magnolia and tonka. I feel like I have some luminous aura surrounding me when I don Mark of the Moon. A gorgeous find and addition to my vanity table. Harvest Cakes (Cinnamon sugar crumble over moist yellow cake) Another mouthwatering scent potion that found its way into my basket after I tried the perfume sample. This indeed smells like a comforting spiced cake topped with a cinnamon crumble even leaning into a fair food classic. Another favourite of this round and I went back for seconds and thirds of Harvest Cakes in different formats. Room Spray in Harvest Cakes (Cinnamon sugar crumble over moist yellow cake) Admittedly this is too good to share and spray in a room for others, it's an indulgence I wrap myself in literally as I spray this one on my bedclothes and tuck myself in for the day in a cloud of cinnamon cake. The heavenly fragrance lasts about 2 to 3 days and I don't notice any staining on fabrics (but if you have silk as always use caution). Bath Salts For those of us who appreciate a long hot soak that allows us to drift away from the world, may I suggest adding PULP's aromatic bath salts to the relaxing gathering steam? These salts melt all cares and tension away and for anyone else who finds relief from musculoskeletal disorders or conditions, Epsom salts are a daily necessity. Depending on what scent profile you choose the fragrance could last from 10 minutes to several hours later on your skin or in your bathroom. The longer you soak the more you will notice the softness of your skin afterwards and this is another self-pampering delight I can't recommend enough. Scents- The Widow in White (Meyer Lemon, White Grapefruit, Orange Blossom, Sandalwood and Vanilla) Fruits spiked with natural pepperiness and a smooth vanilla twist. This blend is intoxicating lasts several hours on my skin and wafts from my tub. I'm very particular when it comes to citrus and The Widow in White is a lovely balance of tart and pepper and ideal for a bathtime scent. Harvest Cakes (Cinnamon sugar crumble over moist yellow cake) I wanted an enveloping experience like I do when I snuggle into my blankets sprayed with the Room Spray or coat myself in the dusting powder version of Harvest Cakes but sadly the bath salt format only lasts several minutes before disappearing versus The Widow in White. In the jar, it tempts a lick as the fragrance is so realistic and warms my black cold heart (I'll always have a soft spot for gourmands) but I think for the full delectable experience I'll stick with the Room Spray and Dusting Powder and just enjoy the skin-softening effects and balm for my RA with the Bath Salts. Diabolik (Black licorice, frankincense Papyrifera, lightly singed lemonwood, sweet benzoin & onyx musk.) Two words: Naughty Jellybeans. This scent potion smells like seductive candy with the slightest hint of a smoky edge. A unisex fragrance that draws the nose with a complex aromatic mixture of sweet, citrus bitter, herbal and hits a nostalgic spot with one wave of the wrist. Diabolik is listed under the Falloween collection but my mind goes to Eastertide/Ostara and a new fashion to celebrate the upcoming spring season with a whip and a bit of leather. If you have a weakness for licorice, Diabolik is a must-try. Hallowed Ground (Rich soil, damp air, slowly decaying wood, black honey, dark chocolate, soft moss and a thread of precious resin incense.) The sweet scent of temptation luring you away for a hundred years under an enchanted forest floor. The rich loamy earth notes pair perfectly with the realistic chocolate and honey creating a whimsical scent venture of heavenly fudge brownies with peanut butter icing to the nose and a vivid vision of devious fae setting the ultimate delicious trap. Mmm, I'd happily follow the cunning folk into the gloom a century or more for this offering. On me, this otherworldly delight lasts a full day on my skin and provides an oddly comforting fragrance to drift off to sleep with. Fortunes Favors (Apple peels, poached red Barlett pears, black cherry cider, vanilla caramels & smoked applewood musk) And what kind of spellbinding beverage would seal the fate of this curious traveller with the realm of the fae? Why a smoked cherry-pear cider delight of course and that's exactly what Fortunes Favors brings to mind. The trifecta of pressed apple, pear and rare cherry blends marvellously together taking me away to an autumnal celebration or ritual deep in the apple orchards of legendary Avalon. Surprisingly the listed caramels are subdued on my skin and cast a delicious underlay of buttery sweetness versus dominating over the realistic fruit notes. This one is a definite keeper and option for a future bath salt order at the end of summer. All Your Lovely Words (Dried ginger root, zesty elemi, chai spices, split cedar logs, Siberian iris bulbs, Peru balsam and radiant rosewood amber) And now we have arrived at the portion of the vials that remind me of stepping into scenic paintings or postcards. No particular classic existing canvas title comes to mind but these next two perfumes are so elegant and immersive. Our first look is at All Your Lovely Words which is a warm spiced citrus and woody fragrance with a gorgeous vintage amber at the base. Perhaps it was the novels I was reading at the time I was testing out these perfume oils but my brain conjured up a country house postcard setting with an elaborate script and warm Wintertide wishes. It's a classy aroma with comforting elements; fit for the lady of the country manor. Sonnet X (Black vanilla, white amber and a single snow drop pressed between the pages of an old album) Sonnet X is a lost painting from John Singer Sargent holding all the splendour, symbolism and grand beauty of a bygone era, imagine a draped lady in pearlescent white satin holding an open book with a delicate snow drop peeking out of the open pages. Was the little white flower a romantic token from a mysterious beau or a souvenir from some park promenade as the scent of captivating non-gourmand vanilla and sweet amber followed in her wake? Judging by the dreamy half-closed eyes and side smile the subject flashes at the viewer, she is not telling her secrets. Harvest Cakes (Cinnamon sugar crumble over moist yellow cake) This indie shop excels at atmospheric florals, powders, ambers and gourmands for me and I can tell no lie, Harvest Cakes is one my favourites I have tried from the catalogue. This olfactory delight holds the realistic scent of comforting spiced cake topped with cinnamon crumble even leaning into a classic fair funnel cake. I don't like to compare indie fragrances but Harvest Cakes toppled over NAVA's Koaliday for how realistic and true the aroma of spiced home-baked goodness stayed on my skin. I could happily drown in Harvest Cakes. This one is just aces and must try if you love gourmands or are a fellow cinnamon fiend! An Accidental Interloper (Green tea, clary sage, rose geranium, evergreen boughs, white patchouli, vetiver and sweet amber musk) An esoteric winter witch type of fragrance. A healer or wise woman deep in the snowy woods that you seek out for advice. She stirs a fragrant cup of green tea and reads runes for you while the cosy fire snaps and crackles breaking the silence. Tannic, earthy all with a sweet amber base. An Accidental Interloper is one of those intriguing blends you can't stop sniffing even hours later (longevity is about 15 hours on me). Ignis (Raspberries, fresh ginger, smokey aloeswood, pale blond tobacco leaves and fiery red musk) In the vial Ignis is a bit harsh, thankfully on the skin it morphs and blooms revealing powdered raspberries set on fire. It's one of those hypnotic fragrances that puzzles the nose as you smell ashes and red fruit then hours later are left with something a bit scandalous. I think I found another intriguing option for bath salts. This one speaks to my unpredictable fire moon. Mark of the Moon (Golden champaka, sweet spices, Peruvian myrrh, white copal, patchouli and tonka bean) Speaking of fire moon comes this beautiful esoteric floral that makes me feel like I'm surrounded by a luminous aura. The baking spices and warm resins marry so well with the creamy golden magnolia and tonka. Every format of Mark of the Moon is gorgeous and holds exceptional longevity. Et in Arcadia (Cardamom pods, walnut husks, warm oakwood, dragon's blood resin, smooth tobacco and aged patchouli) Spice, nuts, resins and everything nice! This one is for us spice fiends who need a meditative option. Mmm there is something almost fruit-like in this. I bet Et in Arcadia would be amazing in the tub or in my curls as the perfume version sadly fades within a few hours. For a visual, I keep thinking about a proud red cardinal in the swirling winter snows. Very relaxing, seasonal and vivid. The Phantom Room (Cherry tobacco, honeyed almonds, red currants, cocoa butter & vanilla balsam) Delectable and a bit naughty. Mmm take me away and smother me in rich delights! I get the stately cherry tobacco, the honeyed almonds with cocoa and a bough of pine hiding an illicit rendezvous between myself and the lord of the manor and a box of chocolates. The Phantom Room is you guessed it on the list for a bath salt and dusting powder option and this oil is fantastic to fall asleep with. Sweet racy visions await thee gentle dreamer! Women in Dresses Running Away from Houses (2021) (Caramelized sugar, a roaring bonfire, heliotrope, aged patchouli and a hint of violet). Annd Women in Dresses Running Away from Houses take two. I tried the classic Women in Dresses last year and it sadly wasn't a favourite, as my skin chemistry had a field day with some unexpected medicinal rubber aroma that my skin amped to the heavens and back. I couldn't explain how and what happened. This new variation thankfully is much kinder to my poor head and indeed smells lovely and haunting at the same time. The delicate sugared violets really elevate the scent storyline of this perfume and this one ended as an applauded encore. Toasted Marshmallow (Sweet, gooey marshmallow with just a touch of caramel and woody smoke) My chemistry loves to amplify caramel notes, so on me, Toasted Marshmallow is a softer but easily discernable butterscotch with fluffy melted marshmallow underneath. The smoke note is more noticeable on my skin versus in my hair but fades very quickly. As a layering option this one works nicely with softer florals and warmer perfumes. Hall of Mirrors (Pistachio gelato, buzzy neon, plastic Halloween masks, crushed hay, hot iron, cream soda spilled onto uneven floorboards and worn leather boots) Admittedly, this was one of the vials I was most excited to dive into and sadly the powdery plastic mask and some mysterious unlisted fruit note and expensive dryer sheets is all I can smell. Many others have commented how complex and fascinating Hall of Mirrors is on them and I wish I could be one of them. *Please remember what my skin chemistry does with one note may not happen on someone else. That's the magic of indie perfume oils, you never know what note will work or not. Definitely give this vial a go if you are curious. Prototype #33 (no listed notes) I love the mystery of these types of vials and I must admit even years after smelling over a thousand different blends I'm still learning and honing my nose. Saying that I won't pretend I know what I'm exactly smelling with Prototype #33 but I will tell you where my fantastical little brain goes or more specifically who I think would wear this. Something screams bubblegum floral with a distinct playful but dangerous edge to me when I open the vial and when on the skin I get an image emerging of a costume of black, red and white. This character is a bit dangerous with a mallet or baseball bat, loves to get inside other characters' heads, plays by her own rules and is a fellow Cancer sun, give up who? This is Harley Quinn or something she would wear. There is something chaotic (smokey/ashy) but pretty and magnetic in Prototype #33. I eagerly look forward to finding out the notes. PULP Fragrance An assortment of lovely scents and history, what's more, to obsess over and ramble about? How about fantastic customer service practices and overall presentation (thank you so much for the extras!). I fell hard for quite a few of these little candles by the cold throws alone (Boleyn, Bog Bodies, Shelley, Black Phillip, Table-Tipping, Bring Out Your Dead and Cher Ami topping the lists with realistic florals and fruits, spices or honey) and am finding myself further entranced and saying "Mmmphf" with every flick of the flame. These votive candles are impressive giving off a 2-4 foot throw and complex clever aromas inspired by different events and themes of bygone eras and classics off the shelves. Looking forward to trying the beast sizes, now to narrow my basket down. This won't be the last you have read about Pestilence Pours, that's a promise. Table-Tipping (Honey, Amber, Coriander, Tonka, Tobacco Leaves, Oud and Musk) Smells like an evening filled with necromancy games and levity. The realistic crystallized honey is the conduit of this blend with cherry tobacco adding a fitting fruit laced aspect to the honey while the coriander lends a "dust" illusion to the midground and the oud is laying underneath lifting this fragrance and bringing the final unexpected bang of something to grab your attention. This is a gathering of the elite in a scene and in note selection. Very impressive! For a votive-sized candle, Table-Tipping still gives a 2 to 3-foot scent throw and melts evenly with the strength gaining with every flick of the flame. Bring Out Your Dead (Pumpkin, French Vanilla Cream and Pie Spices) The little candle carries my top two guilty pleasures in life- sweet treats and dark humour; how could I resist trying this combination? All the promised notes are there in a delicious creamy and lightly spiced throw that reaches 4 feet and into the basket Bring Out Your Dead goes. "I feel happy, I feel happy!". Vive la Reine (Chrysanthemums, Green florals and botanicals, Watery Aloe and Sweet Agave) A trill of happy laughter, a delicate hand absently reaches out and creates dancing ripples in the bright sunlight, a blush creeps across a perfumed cheek while a secret letter sits on a draped lap and this idyllic scene is captured in contrasting pastels with strikes of the queen's favourite powdery shade in a portrait that will no doubt hang in her beloved Petit Trianon's halls when she hides away from rigid decorum and hissed whispers behind fluttering fans. It's a scent that makes you wish history would have played out differently and if happiness and touches of romance would have only followed instead such a tragic misunderstood figure. The inclusion of agave in this candle inspired by Marie Antoinette adds a unique sweet fruity extravagance while the soft watery florals on top create visions of a poetic haven away from this world, and I don't know about you, but I always want my boudoir to smell like that. A beautiful creative tribute fragrance. Bog Bodies (Tangy Cranberries, Cinnamon, Sweet Apple and Spicy Clove) Sharp and warm with no sacrifice on the promised cranberries! The clove adds a smoky nearly meditative element whilst the fruit notes of freshly peeled apple sprinkled with cinnamon and cranberry all lends Bog Bodies the perfect impression of something wicked (though celebratory) happening at fall-tide. For throw, this votive covers my whole kitchen with a welcoming tart and spiced aroma that holds a sinister undernote and I'm in love. Is it strange I look forward to unsuspecting guests complimenting Bog Bodies and then launching into a dark history lesson that makes them look toward the exit? Haha, I didn't think so either. Penny University (Fresh Brewed Coffee, Rum, Cocoa Beans) Admittedly this is not my favourite out of the parcel and with its cold throw introduction as the coffee can give off a well skunky though earthy scent (am I the only one who smells skunk when it comes to brewed black coffee?). Thankfully that skunky odor is all about absent after a few moments as the wax heats up and releases a more relaxing fragrance of boozy cocoa and a bitter coffee undernote. It definitely perks up my senses but again not a favourite overall. Boleyn (Rose, Musk and Sandalwood) We've explored my least favourite out of these (lucky) thirteen and now we have arrived at my choice pick out of them all. May I introduce those who adore the rich and heady aroma of fresh roses with a distinct underpinning of escapism to Boleyn! This is how I imagine the royal chambers of a queen that defined an era cast in candlelit shadows to smell of, regal and ostentatious but has a hidden primal and always musing energy underneath beckoning her king to visit her behind heavy velvet drapes. This is a stately and amorous rose fragrance and I adore how Boleyn covers my whole kitchen in such an intoxicating way and allows departures from my mundane thoughts whenever I light this inspired votive. It has the largest throw of them all and will be one of my first beast-sized candle purchases this year (maybe for my birthday). Highly recommend. Cher Ami (French Lavender, Chamomile, White Tea, Apple Blossom and Dew) Soft and relaxing like the morning cooing of a dove or a pigeon more alike as this fragrance was inspired by the courageous homing pigeon of the same name that saved 194 Allied soldiers during WWI. This inspired gentle scent is bucolic with notes of a spring morning as you could imagine the guns falling silent across the french countryside. Very lovely and a beautiful welcoming aroma to company as they find their way to your door. Burke & Hare (Wet Grass, a patch of green clover and a little bit of fresh dirt) As it says on the tin with a realistic muddy aroma of clumps of clover and cemetery dirt. Thank goodness Pestilence Pours didn't go another route and recreate a cadaver or anatomy theatre fug with a whiskey barrel or tea chest for the ol' true crimes by Burke & Hare, haha now that would have been something and as much as I adore dark history I don't think I want the distinct stank of formaldehyde, benzene and spirits wafting about my home. I can easily appreciate and applaud the scented storyline and inspiration of the moved cemetery earth just fine and I think others would agree. Danse Macabre (Bonfire, Sweet Amber and Caramelized Marshmallows) This interpretation of allegorical art celebrating universal mortality is oddly comforting and delicious with a warm vintage vein running underneath the smokey sweetness. Perhaps this is a curious and clever capturing of the saying "sweet release of death". I do so love and greatly appreciate this little shop's morbid sense of humour. Fellow dark hearts rejoice, go ahead and giggle and light up Danse Macabre; I think you will be happy. Shelley (Plum, Citrus, Amber and Light and Dark Musks) Of course, the authoress who sparked a new genre of literature that still inspires and terrifies readers would receive a fascinating scent tribute from Pestilence Pours which is dark but has a bolt of romantic current laying in wait. Very fitting and I wouldn't expect anything less. I swear I smell hidden pine intertwined in the wisps of smoke escaping from Shelley no doubt harkening back to the trees around Villa Diodati. It curiously brings to mind heavy velvet drapes and dreary nights by a fire; perfect to tell ghost stories by. Another selection for my basket when the time comes. Black Philip (Black Currants, Jasmine, Rich Black Tea and a touch of Smoke) This is an intriguing layered fragrance of sweetness, smoke and a touch of tannic floral. Definitely one of the most intriguing Halloween themed candles I have tried. I wonder if there is a wisp of musk underneath the top notes as there is something a bit dare I say bewitching about Black Philip that catches your full attention. Another fitting series of curious notes that beckons you closer with every dance of the little flame. Madame Deficit (Vanilla Cake, Coconut and White Musk) Mmm smells like a perfume I would gladly don with an even balance of gourmand and sophistication. A non-overwhelming blend of creamy sweetness and powdery musk. As complex as the scandals, historic opinions and legends surrounding Marie Antoinette. Reading the description of Madame Deficit the notes oddly work as this figure was harassed with slander (one of the false tales of lavish dinners and carefree comments such as the "let them eat cake") which only led to a tragic disconnect from the public and the destruction of a dynasty. Spring Heel'd Jack (Caramel Dipped Apples) And we have arrived at lucky number 13 and a bonus candle I found tucked into my parcel (thank you so much, Pestilence Pours) and is no doubt a sweet playful tribute to the tradition of telling ghost and supernormal stories during parties in the Victorian era well into the Edwardian period on All Hallow's Eve. I can easily imagine the giggles and feigned gasps as well dressed ladies and their dapper beaus cuddle close and play little games and indulge in autumnal treats (such as caramel-dipped apples with a sprinkling of warm cinnamon) as the tale of Spring Heel'd Jack is whispered whilst the candles around them gutter with the October cold winds finding their ways down the chimneys and betwixt cracks in the windows. It's a simple blend but still manages to capture the imagination. Very nice! Pestilence Pours FEATURED: ILNP's Salem (the perfect shade when you desire to channel your inner 'Evil Queen')4/1/2022
Salem Description of the shade- "Your identity may be a secret, but the focus is completely on you. Salem’s vibrant emerald color runs deep, with a divine shine that demands attention! The semi-translucent, jelly-leaning formula of our shimmer polishes allows for maximum balance, depth, and effect payoff." Full Opacity in 3-5 coats Wear is about 5 to 6 days with no large chips or need to retouch spots Where to start with this stunning shade? How about Once Upon A Time... It's hard to not think of fairytales and legends when watching the hypnotic shifts in this nail polish catch the light. In the bottle, Salem is a striking peacock emerald green and as you build the layers over top your nails you begin to see the dazzling flashes of obsidian black to purple and fiery red begin to appear and swirl together. It takes about 3 to 4 coats to reach full opacity and even a 5th coat wouldn't be discouraged. I'm learning that a jelly base takes some extra patience to build, however, the payoff is magnificent. I finally found my Evil Queen nail polish and I can honestly say this is the niftiest nail polish I have ever worn and can't recommend it enough. -Poison Bottle in photo purchased at OfGraveConcern ILNP *Review composed in 2021 As promised here is my first experience with ILNP and the start of a whole new little obsession. Dear Santa (I've been calling it 'Santa Baby' as that song plays non-stop in my head when I look at my nails and let the light play against the morphing tones, haha) Description of the shade- "Dear Santa is a delightfully deep burgundy duochrome full of elegance. Inundated with subtly shifting red-to-gold shimmer, Dear Santa showcases a minimal and refined duochrome finish reminiscent of smooth and cozy cashmere." My impression- This shade may have Christmas tidings on the label but when applied my mind immediately travels to vibrant fall and feathered boas. There is a subtle shift of deep satiny cranberry to copper and gold depending on how the polish catches the light and complete opacity is about 3 coats. Longevity is an impressive 5 to 7 days with no top coat before a severe chip occurs (and that is with heavy hand washing, surgical glove wearing and even home chores). Dear Santa is one magnetic shade that says one fabulous night is in store and ILNP polishes are definitely worth the hype on social media; they have one impressive formula there. ILNP *Review composed in 2021 I fully admit I've had my eye on ROXX Polish for months and pounced immediately when they had a sale at the end of December. Each bottle has either crushed crystals added to the formula or actual mini stones floating at the bottom of the bottle which I have never seen before. Every crystal has a meaning that is meant to serve you, and even if that isn't something that resonates with you, you can't deny the shades are stunning. For me, Rose Quartz & Selenite was the first colour that "called" to me as I love those crystals and I hold a special association for myself. I also needed a quality top coat, so I added the Clear Quartz top coat to my basket as well. Rose Quartz & Selenite Crystal Infused Polish ("Optimism) I'm just tickled pink with my first Roxx Nail Polish order. It shipped lightning fast (ordered at 8pm and shipped within hours then arrived only few days later), was presented in a charming eye-catching way in little organza bags (along with tea and stickers) and the polish far exceeded my expectations with the colour and wear time. The Rose Quartz and Selenite is the perfect balance of pale petal pink with a silver moonlit flash in the bottle and transforms into this lovely pearlescent ballet pink on the nails that catches the light, elongates my fingers and gets attention! This is the perfect shade for January into February for Valentine's Day. I feel like a blushing Ice Queen and can't recommend this polish and little shop enough. *pictured is one coat of polish, if you desire full opacity, two coats will suffice. Clear Quartz Crystal Infused Base And Top Coat ("Intuition") Shine baby shine with this clear crystal polish! This is one impressive formula that works on bare nails or as a top coat, I have not experienced one chip even with vigorous dishwashing and it is a very forgiving polish that covers user imperfections (great if you have shaky hands or RA). I also love rocking the bottle back and forth to make the crystals inside move around, so not only does this polish work wonders it holds a bit of additional sparkly amusement. What a find! Roxx Polish What do you get delivered to your door when you cross captivating pumpkins, spice, dark fruits and Christmas cookies with much-needed self-care practices (and a bit of an obsession)? Why the largest indie haul to date (and box on my breezeway) from MoonaLisa: A Supernatural Clean of course! Here is my trove of Halloween/Yule 2021 and my thoughts (buckle up buttercups, this one is a long overdue one!). -Can we just stop and marvel at the incredible themed artwork that accompanies this indie shop's creations and the time and attention that goes into each parcel. It's like unboxing an exquisite layered cake every time I order. Spray-in Hair Detangler I'll open this rambling long-overdue review by first commenting on MoonaLisa's Hair Detangler formula which is something my vanity table will never be seen without. It's not only a compulsion anymore but an absolute necessity to stock up with as many bottles of these hair-loving elixirs as I can afford every season and then hoard them away to treat myself to a unique blend every morning and night. With my past waist-length mane, I run through a generous sized bottle about every odd month and a half and I truly receive my full money's worth with these products (my hair has never looked or felt this healthy and I can't stop touching my soft manageable hair now). The longevity of the fragrances varies between each blend, however, I have discovered citrus and spice based bottles can last days in my hair. I know I keep saying this every post when it comes to MoonaLisa but it's the truth: Where has this product been all my life? S'mores & Hot Cocoa (Classic marshmallow, buttery graham crackers and rich chocolate paired with steaming hot cocoa) I had to treat my locks to the holy grail of hot cocoa fragrances I have found in the indie realm and just as with the perfume (and dusting powder and bath brew) it's magnificent with a warm rich depth of realistic chocolate, buttery graham crackers and fluffy marshmallows that become melted lumps of nostalgia and pure bliss with every gust of cold wind. Absolutely a recommendation for those of us with an incurable sweet tooth and anyone desiring to revisit to happier days of your youth. Where's My Pie (Scented over the top with everything by the kitchen sink! Buttery flaky pie crust, cinnamon, pumpkin, carrot, caramel, clove, nutmeg, whipped cream and pecan to just name a few) As an avid baker, I can attest this smells like a spread of several mouth-watering prepared pies and nutty delicacies with even a crusty buttery bread pudding rolled on the side. It may all sound tooth-achingly sweet but it's a brilliantly balanced blend and is a comforting mashup of autumnal, winter and even early spring pastries with a slice of cream cheese topped carrot cake peeking out. When it comes to a comparison between the perfume oil versus the hair detangler, more butter and caramel are pronounced on my skin whilst spice and whipped cream are wonderfully entangled in my curls. Another instant favourite and repurchase. Whole (Sweet Orange, Neroli (Orange Blossom) & Petitgrain. Warming, soothing and refreshing to the spirit. This is a very special blend using every part of the orange tree: the leaves, fruit, rind and twig, helping you feel whole again.) 99% of this order were repurchases or doubling up on the detanglers or dusting powders from the perfume samples I had the amazing opportunity to try. Whole blew me away in 2019 and I had to get more of this citrus spiced meditative fragrance as I found it helped me calm down after particularly harsh nights and at the same time channelled 18th-Century French Nobility and I felt a centred diamond at my vanity brushing this scent into my curls. It's still magic, lasts days in my hair and I'm very particular about citrus scents so for Whole to be a repurchase speaks volumes in my book. Winter Porridge with Apple Strudel (Hot buttery oats with a slightly spiced baked apple strudel with a heart of warming goodness.) Another note I'm a bit finicky about is apple and this bottle was a last minute addition to my basket as I found purchasing the detanglers is the ideal way for me to try out unfamiliar blends for myself (even if the scents aren't perfect matches for my nose, they are used up to the last drop). Winter Porridge with Apple Strudel was a lovely surprise and I fell quite hard for the realistic aroma of oats swirled/spiced apples accompanying me through my work shifts during fall into winter. Very comforting and homey and I want Apple Brown Betty now to compare. Mother's Milk (Warming and comforting Almond milk with a touch of honey and oats) Sweet and creamy but not a favourite oddly. It's a cold day when I'm not making embarrassing noises when I spray my hair and brush out my mane with a detangler from Moona and this one was decent but wasn't for me (I think my hair just overbalanced the almond to the other delicious notes). I still used up every drop and found a perfect match instead with Dicken's Faire when it came to almonds. Jingle Jelly Donuts (The irresistible scent of sugary fried dough, sweet vanilla and gobs of oozing strawberry jam) For the life of me, I can't recall what came first the research about doughnuts and scents men find attractive and addictive OR the "Behind the Gates" opportunity to sample the perfume oil format of this bottle first? Well in any case this one is delectable with homemade strawberry jam inside a shell of dough and drizzled in warm vanilla glaze with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. No guilt, no calories just an addictive series of ingredients that is hard to stop spritzing and slathering. The vanilla glaze is more prominent in my curls with the dark strawberry jam and a hint of pine boughs whilst in the perfume my skin amps the powdered sugared dough with the photo-realistic jam as a middle note. No matter where I huff, I'm in love. I shall report back if that study about scents men are attracted to is just hyped bogus or not (or should I say, "dough"not, haha). Dicken's Faire (A reformulation of Moona's favourite place in the world to be this time of the year! The mouth-watering scent of sugared roasting almonds, vanilla and spice you can smell throughout the entire grounds!) After the miss with Mother's Milk, I admit I was a bit gun shy to open Dicken's Faire then, of course, it only took one spritz and I was immediately regretting not using it earlier or donning it for special events that would have been perfect to match the delicious atmosphere and mood Dicken's Faire supplies. It's a divine balance of creamy buttery spice, roasted almonds, vanilla and honey that lasts days in my hair and the following year I went back for seconds and thirds are on the list in the form of the perfume bottle joining my collection in 2022. If you are a fellow little spice whore, Dicken's Faire is a must to try! Cinnamon Blackberry Crunch (A delicious blend of cinnamon sugared blackberries topping an irresistible confectionery crunch!) This was one of the first blends I ever tried from this enchanting indie shop and years later it's still sublime! It's buttery, toothsome fruit with spice sprinkled on top and even has realistic crunchy crumbles and a squeeze of lemon to top it off. Exactly as it says on the tin and you can only imagine the embarrassing noises I make when my locks lift and trap the intoxicating spice and dark fruit from this bottle, haha. Iced Gingerbread (Realistic Gingerbread blend with mild nostalgic Yuletide spice and white icing) Speaking of making awkward loud noises of happiness, we have arrived to another holy grail and repurchase for life for me. In whatever format, THIS is the gingerbread fragrance of my dreams and is the ideal gingerbread scent sealed in a bottle along with a whiff of iced animal crackers. In my hair, the heavenly spice and vanilla intertwine my senses and I could flop back and huff my locks whilst tapping my red kitten heels to the tune of "Santa Baby" that plays in the background of my brain when I spritz or slather this spiced confection. I can't recommend Iced Gingerbread enough. Nonna's Christmas Cookies (A tribute to KC's (Mooman) Sicilian Great-Grandmother. Made just like KC's Nonna would make her special cookies every year! A little of this and a little of that). To round out this scrumptious cookie jar collection of scents for my crown I doubled up on Nonna's Christmas Cookies which to my nose is fresh oatmeal cookies from the oven drizzled in white chocolate, a hint of warm spice and realistic milky creaminess that amplifies in my hair. Absolutely magnificent in every way and goes on to delight and entice those around me for 2 days before fading completely. Dusting Powders I said it once and I'll say it again, one of my true guilty pleasures in life is dusting powders and happily rolling around like a chinchilla in a fragrant dust bath of gourmands and florals. It's one of the ultimate self-pampering gifts one can buy for oneself and MoonaLisa's formula still reigns as the best I have found and tried for myself. The formula never cakes or clumps and the aromas last well into the next day and I love how they peek out of my clothes in a little delectable wafts when I need them the most. Cinnamon Blackberry Crunch (A delicious blend of cinnamon sugared blackberries topping an irresistible confectionery crunch!) *see above, no difference between the hair detangler, argan oil, perfume and dusting powder formats. All toothsome and addictive. The Rumpkin! (Delicious pumpkin goodies with a twist of fresh sweet lavender essential oil) My darling, my love, my perfect marriage of spiced pumpkin and lavender; you are home! Now curiously on my skin with the perfume, bath brew and dusting powder the hidden apples, smoke and white chocolate are noticeable versus in the detangler and argan oil which is more creamy spiced pumpkin and lavender with the slightest hint of sweet bonfire smoke. The Rumpkin! still holds so many bewitching secrets and surprises and I can't ramble about this scent potion enough. Snow Ice (Fond memories Moona has when a child at camp during the Nevada snows making natural "ice cream" from ice cold snow, condensed milk, sugar and vanilla extract. This scent is reminiscent of that: sweet crystallized vanilla sugar and cream) Whether on my skin or in my hair this one is a true masterpiece of a gourmand as it's dreamy but never childish or cloying. Snow Ice finishes off any look for the night and I love I leave the tiniest bit of a crystallized vanilla trail in my wake with this lovely realistic creamy vanilla blend. In the dusting powder, this one is pure bliss when it reacts with my heated skin and I can smell it through a thick fuzzy sweater. It's akin to a sweet hug. Eclipse (A full on powdery musky amber. Full bodied, earthy, sweet and sensuous. Represents sensuality) Eclipse was a new olfactory experiment for myself and remains a bit of a mystery. I know I smell jasmine, rose and patchouli and of course amber musk but there is something else in this esoteric love potion of a scent that catches my attention at different times of wear. It really does make you feel like dancing out in the moonlight to a Fleetwood Mac or Lana Del Rey song. My canister is nearly empty after others caught a whiff and demanded I share, haha. I guess I need to repurchase in 2022. Nonna's Christmas Cookies (A tribute to KC's (Mooman) Sicilian Great-Grandmother. Made just like KC's Nonna would make her special cookies every year! A little of this and a little of that). *see above, no difference between the hair detangler, hair conditioner, perfume and dusting powder formats. All tempt just one bite or lick. Argan Oil Hair Rescue I can't have or praise the detangler without mentioning the argan oil formula MoonaLisa offers because they are a match made in hair heaven and these products have worked absolute magic on my tresses (I'm still getting used to all the compliments I receive and being told I have "fairytale hair" *blushes*). I have never had such shiny healthy-looking hair. The argan oil I use after I have brushed out my mane with the aid of the detangler then I add a dime-size amount of argan oil in different scents to the ends of my hair. If I have any excess left I place that in the back of my head. I run thru a bottle about every 3 months and they are worth every penny. Cinnamon Blackberry Crunch (A delicious blend of cinnamon sugared blackberries topping an irresistible confectionery crunch!) *see above, no difference between the hair detangler, argan oil, perfume and dusting powder formats. All toothsome and addictive. Hair Conditioner Short and sweet- a fabulous formula that tackles my thick hair with hardly an end tangle and only gifts me with softness, shine and a bonus of added scent to my locks. The bottle that keeps on giving, haha! Iced Gingerbread (Realistic Gingerbread blend with mild nostalgic Yuletide spice and white icing) This was my first bottle of the hair conditioner but certainly not my last as I found it was another fantastic way to try out fragrances in the seasonal listing for a lower price and now I have a long pretty row of bottles for every mood and craving. For those curious, the Hair Conditioner formula is thick and creamy and serves well for a deep conditioning treatment and the scents last out of the tub. One more lifelong repurchase option for myself to ramble about. Extras/Gifts Cranberry Spiced Shortbread Hair Detangler (Juicy ripe Cranberries ready to burst with a subtle touch of Christmas spices topping warm and buttery shortbread cookies.) A fellow avid gourmand collector's miss became my treasure as I was gifted Cranberry Spiced Shortbread (thank you so much again, Samantha!) and I ended up adoring it so much I went back for my own cobalt blue bottle in 2021. Now oddly the perfume version of Cranberry Spiced Shortbread morphed unexpectedly on me and even though I enjoyed the realistic sogginess of the almost bubbly cranberry and buttery shortbread, the detangler is all crackle and realistic fizz of a cranberry drink with more creamy woody spice that lasts a full 3 days in my hair. An instant uplifting and giggle-worthy fragrance. Hygge Potion Lotion (The Danish word, pronounced "hoo-ga", is usually translated into English as "coziness". Picture sitting by a fireplace wearing your softest cozy slipper-socks, surrounded by the warm glow of candles, soft music playing, drinking mulled wine and hot coffees while eating hot Danish pastries! That is Hygge! Notes include: Gentely spiced wine and coffees, wafting of warm Beeswax with subtle smokiness with a background of Danish pastry!) Another rare miss for another that turned in a new jewel for my morning sleep routine. The lotion is all lovely vanilla cheese danish one me with a backing of equally realistic beeswax candles and the perfume version is a whole storybook scene of warmth, peace and security with familiar black coffee opening then gently giving way to the under notes. The scent of the lotion lingers for 10 hours and sees me out the door for the night after a long cold day's sleep hibernated under a mountain of fuzzy blankets. Hygge just completes the scene. Spread The Love Massage Bar in Chocolate Espresso Torte *free self-pampering treat with purchase Mmmm, can I eat this?! It's soap you say? Well, you could have fooled me as it smells like the most decadent dessert with layers of dark chocolate and expensive coffee. If I can restrain myself long enough to not lick the bar or my skin I notice the buttery richness of the little heart-shaped bar (nice touch) and how my skin especially along my neck loves the feeling of the little nubs. I would purchase a full-sized bar in a heartbeat and I have Chocolate Espresso Torte on my wishlist to grab in some bath product in 2022. MoonaLisa: A Supernatural Clean *Reviews composed in February 2021 I guess the stars decided to shine a little luck my way at the end of November and December 2020 as I won a few giveaways on social media. These were the first two (thank you so much, UrbanWitchcraftCo and Pylies!) Sterling silver and rainbow moonstone planchette necklace from UrbanWitchcraftCo All thanks to an adorable feathered shop assistant named Lily who picked my winning ticket entry name out of a bowl I was sent a stunning necklace with a moonstone that has one of the most brilliant flashes I have ever seen in a rainbow moonstone (this jewellery artist has some of the most unique crystal/gemstone specimens displayed). I have been watching this curious little shop with much interest for months and this lovely necklace decided a custom in the future for flashing and glowing moonstone earrings to match in the near future. Finally, it was "Muppets Christmas Carol" for the win! I love super easy giveaway requirements and all I had to do was submit in my favourite holiday movie I watch every year. From Pylies: 3 lip scrubs in- Gingersnap Cookies (Chewy cookie with ginger, cardamom, chinese cinnamon and caraway) Peppermint Hot Cocoa (Piping hot drinking chocolate and a splash of smooth creamy peppermint) Christmas Crack (Saltine cracker, crunchy buttery toffee, a dash of holiday spice and thin layer of dark chocolate) I have a horrible habit from childhood of biting my lips when I'm nervous or when I'm not even realizing it anymore and these scrubs have been receiving a full workout so I can attest these all smell (and taste delicious) and have been a tremendous help with my peeling-winter-and-when-I-gnaw damaged lips. For those not familiar with lip scrubs they are flavoured granulated sugar with additional healing oils (nuts or fruits) added and you place a fingertip size of scrub on your damp lips and you rub gently in a circular motion to exfoliate and remove dead skin. It does take a bit of practice to get the motion down as it can be messy at first so start over the sink. I follow up the scrubs with more indies to seal in the softness, smoothness and moisture (I highly recommend Spirit & Venom Olfactory Arts' lip balm). All of the presented scrubs are as they say on the tin, it's hard to pick a favourite as I get a sense of delightful nostalgia with Peppermint Hot Cocoa (it reminds me of the glory days of Bath&Body Works and a long discontinued holiday lip stick/balm I adored so much and received many years in my stocking until it disappeared off the shelves one winter without any warning), Gingersnap Cookies is an addictive ginger cookie that brings to mind a recipe my English grandmother used to bake for family gatherings. So that leaves Christmas Crack and we have a buttery salty and chocolate with the barest hint of spice laced winner with this one as it tastes very much like a concoction I whip up for myself when I have a serious craving for salty chocolate and I shove a handful (or four) of semi-sweet chocolate chips and crushed oyster crackers into my gob at the same time and let the distinct notes meld together. Yes, I need to stop that, hopefully rubbing a little of this delectable lip scrub on my bitten lips will sate that craving instead. In addition to the little pots of lip scrubs, I was sent a few more treats! A Body Cream and Body Scrub. Candied Yams Body Cream (I couldn't find the exact notes but I do wonder if "Southern Haunt" wasn't renamed) This is a thick cream that melts nicely and releases a fragrance of heavenly spiced sweet potatoes, marshmallow, butter and even a hint of sweet hidden apple. I have been using this on my elbows and sensitive winter-chapped hands (concentrating on my cuticles) and it's a welcome home ritual now before I get ready for bed after a long night. I go to sleep with wafts of spiced yams and fluffy marshmallow and wake up 9 hours later with the faintest hint of warm spice so the scent lasts quite a while and I noticed the warmer you can get your skin after applying the better the results, so this is the type of formula that would work wonders with that the old "slathering your hands in cream and covering with a pair of thick cotton socks before bed trick". I'll report back on the next Self-Care Day. Witchy Woman Body Scrub (Soft Incense, Oud, Woodsmoke and Patchouli mixed with Clove, Cinnamon and Jasmine) Smokey, spicy and sweet floral decadence take me away! Witchy Woman is an interesting combination of notes and the scent continues on long after leaving the tub. The scrub formula is a powerhouse for my rough heels and even works on my elbows in those weird leftover spots that I can never get completely smooth especially in the colder months. The consistency has larger granulated sugar crystals for extra scrubbing which is a change-up from the other body scrubs I own. This formula was made for the long winter months and has been put through its paces already. Overall, this is another little wonderful surprising shop I will be exploring more from. UrbanWitchcraftCo and Pylies Someone very wise once told me that a specific crystal will find its way into your life at the right time to serve you and in the chaotic year of 2020, Labradorite and Moonstones found me. It all began with a long past midnight browsing on ETSY and a simple search for crystal necklaces, in honesty, I didn't know what I was looking for I just wanted to see something shiny I suppose and learn some new facts about crystals and minerals to store away (I blame my Libra and Gemini placements, haha). Everything stopped when I saw the photo of a pale green gold crystal dubbed "The Seeker" on Rissa Rae Moonstone's page. I didn't know labradorite could be found in that specific unique shade and the more I stared at the page, I more I felt drawn to it. I had to go back from break but the glow of that curious stone stayed in my mind and by the time I was leaving my shift for the night, I knew I had to have it. Ordering was a simple process and the exact listed labradorite necklace arrived at my door not even a week later along with a small additional crystal. To say, I was happy with my purchase is an understatement as I wear my first labradorite piece from this shop everywhere and enjoy showing everyone my newest discovery (and obsession). Here was my first impression and initial wearing experience: "Over the moon with my necklace! It's absolutely stunning to look at and is the perfect size while at the same time adds something unique to my wardrobe. I've received several compliments at work about it including the shade of this glowing stone matches my eye colour or makes my green eyes pop. I also adore the gentle soothing energy this crystal exudes as I feel so relaxed and somehow charged ready to take on anything while wearing this jewellery piece and I don't want to take it off. I must also jot down for positives the lovely packaging presentation and amazing customer service. This was my first purchase but certainly not my last from this charming little shop." 2020 started my own transformation for my body, health and mind and I felt myself reaching out to touch this talisman when I had self doubt, I know that may sound silly but it somehow helped me to restrain my old habits and hold my head up a little higher. The stone's soft energy or not, I ended up experiencing things I never would have thought I would attempt before and that only allowed me to come out of my shell a little bit more. I had a wonderful time in October and created some amazing memories for myself and guess what was around my neck in candid pictures that others so easily take everyday, but I strangely never would have allowed to be taken (I forgotten how much I have the same smile as a beloved lost loved one)? If anything this labradorite piece reminds me of those happy times in a year of uncertainty and to not take the little things in life for granted ever again. November blew in and I knew it was time to ask if the shop owner could create a custom necklace I have been dreaming of owning for years (I have been hoping to come across just the right jewellery crafter), a double strand moonstone necklace... I only just commissioned this particular jewellery piece when a stunning rare purple labradorite amulet additionally caught my attention from the day before on social media made by this stone caster and it wouldn't allow me to focus on anything else, the stone was just gorgeous but I figured it was gone. Out of curiosity I messaged and asked if it was still available and to my utter delight it was and it was waiting for me it seemed! The owner was such a sweetheart that she offered to bundle the necklaces together and send them at the same time. I think I chose wisely don't you? "Signed, sealed, delivered and I couldn't be more pleased with these pieces of wearable art or this little shop! When it comes to my custom pieces, the moonstones just twinkle and glitter on my neck in the light and no photo can capture that nor can the various depths of purples and golds in my labradorite necklace. These were my second and third purchases and I can't recommend Rissa Rae Moonstone enough if you are searching for a particular crystal and type of amulet to serve you through a portion of your life. Scroll through the catalogue and see which one "calls out" to you (what you see is what you are sent)! If you have any questions don't be afraid to reach out to their customer service (which is another facet of a phenomenal experience and icing on the cake). Thank you again, Rissa Rae Moonstone!" What crystal or special propertied stone will call out in 2021, I can't wait to find out and am ready to listen. Rissa Rae Moonstone It just takes one unique note listing to get me knocking at a new shop's door and when Twisted Wonderland Perfumery shared a post about a creative spin on ice cream and it was listed as a body oil- I HAD to have it. Black Pepper and Vanilla Ice Cream? That sounded like a heavenly patchwork of sweet and warm spice that I didn't have anything resembling in my vast collection...but oh bother, it was listed under another season's catalogue and looked to be sold out. With pepper and vanilla swirling in my twisted brain, I took a complete shot in the dark and messaged the owner to inquire if one bottle was still available and to my utter delight this mad scent-scientist was an absolute sweetie and offered to make me a custom order! This was only the beginning in the months that followed, come along and let me tell you about my discoveries at Spirit & Venom Olfactory Arts (formerly named Twisted Wonderland). Venom Body & Bath Oil (previously named 'Black Pepper Vanilla Bean Ice Cream') Is a must-have if you love sugary vanilla ice cream with an unexpected edge. The black pepper adds a sinister dark twist to the creamy vanilla and I won't lie it's quite addicting and deliciously wicked!
*Every order it seems an additional sample is tucked inside the packaging along with stickers! (thank you, Spirit & Venom!) Fool this blend is dubbed but you definitely would not feel a fool trying this perfume if you love peach, bubbles and a hint of sugared herbs. On me, this is a bright zippy fruit fragrance that brings to mind a Peach and Guava La Croix on a hot summer afternoon. It hits the spot for something bright and tropical but approachable without coconut and to my amazement the peach is staying true and not morphing into cat urine. I do however wish this fragrance lasted longer as it taps out at 4 hours. Fool was something completely out of my comfort zone but ended up a keeper. The Rest Is Confetti Body and Bath Oil (Notes: A cup of white tea, elegant white musk, marshmallow buttercream cupcakes, & soft rose petals) The bottle contains this intriguing ghostly shimmery oil that flashes green in the light (like an orb) and the fragrance of this oil dries down to a lovely delicate almond cake with rose buttercream fragrance but first the white tea with white musk does give a clean and fresh opening that can be off-putting. The longer this bottle ages, the more I'm enjoying slathering The Rest Is Confetti as the marshmallow sweetness is becoming more noticeable with the soft rose months later which is exactly what I was hoping for when I ordered. Basic Witch Body and Body Oil (Notes: A giant pumpkin milkshake with a side of sugar cookies slathered in decandent pumpkin flavored buttercream) Just as with The Rest Is Confetti, this blend gets better the more it ages. I think it was the hidden almond that was throwing off my nose the first couple months with Basic Witch but tonight I'm happy to report, it's creamy, buttery and sugary pumpkin with a distinct nutmeg heart and I'm happily coated in fragrant orange shimmery oil. The hidden almond is still there but is more muted and falls behind of the top and heart notes. I will note that the bottles are the devil to open if you have RA or limited strength in your hands. Good news they don't spill or drip, bad news, you may need help opening them each time you wish to slather yourself. *I quickly found out it was a better plan to order samples in different fragrances THEN purchase the matching body oils if I fell hard for them. The perfume vials arrived in a wrapped box with little extra details and was ready for gift-giving if you ordered for that purpose. Speaking of packaging, I love the gothic but whimsical elements this shop puts into its labels, boxes and organza bags. It's just that extra touch of some dark flair that catches the eye! Perfume Oils: Ghost (Notes: A mixture of light + dark vanilla notes to create a deep vanilla aroma reminiscent of vanilla extract) As it says on the tin, however there is a chemical woody note with alcohol hiding underneath which takes a few moments to settle down when first applied. A little goes a long way on me as well and this oil fades within 3 hours. I'm marking this vanilla perfume down to add to a deep conditioner/whipped soap treatment this coming week. I think this oil would be divine in my curls versus on my skin. Venom (Notes: Black pepper essential oil combined with sweet vanilla notes making for a sweet fragrance with a sting) Ah, the sweet sinister pairing of pepper and ice cream, how oddly comforting! On me, the pepper is immediately apparent with the vanilla ice cream serving as a creamy backdrop that appears more forward as the warm earthiness of the black pepper fades back but never completely disappears even 7 hours later. No surprise this turned out to be my overall top favourite perfume oil from this shop and I need this topsy-turvy scent in everything! Spirit (Notes and Description: A simple yet beautiful aroma composed of synthetic ambergris. Reminiscent of ozonic/skin musk with hints of amber. If you enjoy a certain mainstream 'not a perfume' this is a must have). Yep, I know that scent, it's Iso E Super with a hidden cedarwood and vanilla base. I was hoping for more amber to shine through with salty ambergris but it's a strange chemical wood note rising to my nose that I recognize from the beginning of Ghost. Spirit is intriguing but I don't think for me. For longevity, this oil vanishes within an hour on my skin. Mistress of the Dark (Notes: A sexy seductive blend of spun sugar, dragons blood, and patchouli) *a free sample with my one order Why am I feeling like in I'm in the Templar's Tomb with a row of goblets and I must pick one? Okay, let's try again, haha. I had such unexpected fantastic luck with Fool, I'm grabbing something completely out of my comfort zone with spun sugar and... I chose wisely, as I really like the playful but darkly seductive qualities of Mistress of the Dark! Yay! Oh thank the shining perfume stars as this one is sweet but suggestive with the dragons blood and soft patchouli and lasts well past 8 hours on my skin. I now wish I owned a tight black velvet dress to match this slinky little perfume, ah wardrobe goals for 2021. Nevermore (Notes: A beautiful light woodsy musk combined with fresh red rose and a dash of sweet tobacco) If I wasn't already completely smitten by another tobacco and rose perfume from Redwood Alchemy (review coming soon), I would consider a full bottle of Nevermore as this is another surprising alluring fragrance that is hard to stop sneaking sniffs of when no one is looking. This is bringing to mind the lost figure of Lenore from The Raven at a Jazz Night Club in the 30s or 40s, bathed in blue spotlights. The rose is sweet and velvety and the tobacco is leaning more cigarette cut versus pipe tobacco but it's lovely all the same. This one is a keeper and one to recommend. Graveyard Smash (Notes and Description: A scent reminiscent of a nice stroll through the local cemetery. Crisp leaves in the air, mossy gravestones, freshly dug plots, graveyard flowers, and a hint of your pumpkin latte) In the vial I definitely detect the spiced pumpkin latte with wet dirt and moss and on my skin more realistic ancient weathered stone hits my nose. It's an interesting autumnal atmospheric and morphs hours later to reveal a funeral lily note that lasts nearly 10 hours. I do have another perfume that is similar from another shop so I'm undecided on Graveyard Smash in a full size but I will be keeping the vial for next fall, what dark little heart doesn't want to collect and show off all the convincing cemetery scents from across the indie realm? Black Flame Candle (Notes: Crunchy leaves, evening rain, dusty books, cobweb musk, fall spice, a candle lit after 3 centuries by a virgin) Anyone that knows me, knows if there is a Hocus Pocus reference mentioned in a fragrance catalogue then it shall be MINE! After being impressed with the realistic earthy notes in Graveyard Smash I circled back for this vial when the Halloween collection was announced and I wasn't disappointed. All the atmospheric elements are there telling one amazing scent story with thick aged leather and a hidden savoury note amping on my skin, I have to keep checking the listed notes because I swear I smell bread in an oven with the ancient dusty leather book laying on top of the stove serving as a fiendish cook book. The cobweb musk is sticky with the fall spice in the strands and the muddy leaves serves as the base with a swirl of incense and smoke. I don't detect any waxiness from a candle. Just like Graveyard Smash, this ode to a treasured film is a keeper and one to show off next October. Light As A Feather (Notes: A witchin' sleepover, clove cigarettes, fluffy pillows, buttered popcorn, burning candles, and pints of ice cream.) *a free sample found nestled in another order Right away, I get the smokey clove, butter, vanilla creaminess (and even a hint of hidden dragon's blood) however there is an unexpected sweet bubblegum note that is overwhelming the witchy top scents. Sadly this isn't a late teenage edgy version with a twist of nostalgic gourmand I was hoping for (I was really hoping for realistic ice cream or marshmallow). This oil is more playful "baby witch" on first application. After a few hours it transforms thankfully as the powdery bazooka bubblegum fades away and the creamy vanilla with clove and incense comes out to play. I think this one will be amazing by next Fall. Lip Balms: *Besides the body and bath oils, I fell hard for this shop's stellar lip balm formulas and scents/flavours. I went back twice for different orders and even grabbed some for Christmas gifts which went over wildly well. Rest In Pieces lip balm (flavour: Reeses Pieces) *says "In Pieces" on the site, but my tube says "Rest In Pieces" Yisss this is exactly what I wanted when I ordered. It smells exactly like the inside of a bitten Reeses Pieces candy. The taste is muted which I understand because of allergy concerns, but I still love this product. For performance I have to applaud the formula, it's definitely one of the best lip products I have tried from the indie realm. Does it beat my go-to from Curious Apothecary? No, but Rest In Pieces is second on the list and I want to try the other yummy sounding flavours Spirit & Venom offers. S'more-Hees lip balm (flavour: S'mores) Absolutely delectable and realistic! I get the honeyed graham cracker with a hint of roasted marshmallow more than anything with the scent from the tube but when applied all the promised notes come out and it tastes divine with a buttery smack of the lips. I wish both of these lip balm flavours came in the body and bath oils, until then I'll be stocking up for the seasons. Fingers crossed a chocolate easter bunny flavour is coming for spring or lemon cake. Spirit and Venom Olfactory Arts Sometimes you don't know what to say except "thank you" and weep for such an outstanding act of kindness. That's exactly what I did when I was sent these gorgeous swan earrings from the owner of Boheme Bijou out of the clear blue. They encompass the sweetest and most elegant representations of history and the Art Nouveau movement (as well of a bit of the Art Deco style) so popular during the end of the 19th into the early 20th century (eras this indie artist excels at). I simply adore them and look out in 2021 for an Anna Pavlovna Pavlova and her pet swan Jack themed post to appear on my page on social media all because of these inspired stunners. Thank you so much again, Constance! Boheme Bijou I fully admit I have been circling this store and watching for their Halloween release and when Scary Pumpkin appeared on my screens, it was time! This was my first ever bomb bath purchase and experience from this shop of horrors and fanciful bath art called Winston & Walter Artisanal Products. ______________________________________________________________ *First their customer service is stellar, I messaged the owner to ask about skin irritants, fragrance options, possible custom ideas for holiday gifts and a slew of other questions and she was so sweet and genuine answering my entire list of questions. I ordered on August 28th and I received my parcel of smelly bath treats on September 7th. I wasn't prepared how heavy the box would be when it arrived and was concerned that the contents were broken, but there were "Fragile" stickers all over the box and I was over the moon when I opened the box and was greeted with not only a cascade of aromas ranging from sweet to fruit and a bit "dark", but everything was carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and lovely black organza bags plus sealed in more wrap to preserve the fragrances that awaited and most importantly all with nary a break or crack to report! ______________________________________________________________ *All the bombs were HUGE and had quite the heft to them. I feel I received my full money's worth and then some. I can easily cut each up or break them apart. *All the bombs I received carried their own unique scent and even though I only had the opportunity to use one fragrant fizzy bath-time delight, I can tell they are all going to act the same in terms of the aroma wafting in my little water-filled sanctuary for over a day. *I ordered 3 bombs and received the Gothic Mansion, 3 lip balms from La Belle Reine, creative stickers, and a washable face mask from 123 Masque all free (thank you so much, Winston & Walter)! The lipbalms from La Belle Reine are scented in Vanilla, Watermelon and Limeade. I've only opened the Vanilla one and I'm extremely impressed with the formula and results. No break outs to jot down and it did a great job on my peeling bitten lips. I definitely notice a positive change overnight. The cloth facemask from 123 Masque is thick and has absorbed the lovely fragrance from the Guardian Angel bomb. The mask has been put through its paces since it arrived and indeed does the trick and is comfortable to wear. Guardian Angel Tribute/Charity bomb- *Proceeds goes towards causes such as Senior Care Awareness; this shop supports various charities and it's a wonderful comfort there are people that care this much left in the world! Fragrance: A gourmand aroma with luscious rich top notes of lemon, raspberry, honeydew melon, black currants; with middle notes of jasmine, gardenia, and nutmeg; bottom notes of white chocolate, musk, sandalwood, and patchouli. Unwrapped I am greeted by a marvellous patchwork of bakery sweetness, white florals and tart fruit. There are pastel speckles of different hues seen throughout the design. It's just so beautiful and it's one bomb I can't bring myself to cut up. Raven Skull bomb Fragrance: Peppermint Mocha I finally got my peppermint mocha scent and this one is luscious and comforting. This particular bomb is as large as my hand and extremely detailed. As I feel with all the stunning items, it will be a shame to chop this bomb up when the time comes. I want to display this! Gothic Mansion bomb Fragrance: Top notes of energizing, yet subtle mint notes blended with calming chamomile followed by middle notes of smoky hay and green grassy herbals. Background notes of oak, oakmoss and warm soft cinnamon round out this blend. It is said that this fragrance was inspired by a walk through the country meadows after a rainstorm. This was a very generous free gift found nestled among my order and it's gorgeous and huge! From what I can clearly smell this is a thundershower over dirt and earth. I didn't think it was possible to actually capture that type of atmospheric, but as I have learned, INDIES CAN DO ANYTHING. I can't wait to relax with this bomb. Side note: Do you recognize this specific house? Hehe *snap snap* Scary Pumpkin bomb Fragrance: A super sweet comforting blend of vanilla, pumpkin and yummy marshmallow scent. As it says on the tin, this is pumpkin vanilla marshmallow heaven. This was the bomb I choose to grab and unwrap for my first ever bath bomb experience and I wasn't disappointed. The water fizzed and bubbled even with the tiny amount I trimmed away from the top of the pumpkin and that little bit still filled my bathroom with pumpkin marshmallow goodness. For colour the water turned greyish-black with a swirl of vine-yellow and the water was filled with tons of captivating mini sparkles as the fizz settled. My sensitive skin responded very well and I wasn't itchy afterwards or saw any new breakouts on my arms or shoulders. The dark charcoal colouring rinsed away and didn't stain my older tub. Overall, I exceedingly pleased with my first bath bomb haul and can't recommend this shop enough. Whether you are a horror or pop culture fan or simply looking for a one of a kind gift of relaxation and something to talk about, Winston & Walter has it all and they are releasing new designs (and bars of soap) every week. Winston & Walter Artisanal Products *Reviews composed in October/November 2020 Folktale Bath Apothecary I don't know about anyone else, but it honestly seems Indie Artists are secretly reading our scent diaries or wishlists, haha. This autumn alone I was treated to unexpectedly seeing one of my favourite films and tasty guilty pleasures in life being offered in indie forms within the same week and well I went ahauling. This is Part II of the reason(s) I have no desire to leave my tub and am continually tempted throughout the day to nibble my hair. Sleepy Hollow Collection Olde Fashioned Gingerbread Scent Notes: Sticky gingerbread, autumn spices, and frosting. This smells exactly like a Gingerbread Loaf my English Grandmother used to make during the colder months, the sweetness of black treacle and spice is all there with a generous layer of vanilla custard. I don't associate this fragrance with Christmas, this is a fall type of "gingerbread"; an icing encased bouncy thick cake versus a drier traditional cookie. The owner cleverly nailed the Sleepy Hollow theme with this well-executed Olde Fashioned Gingerbread, I can easily imagine this cake aroma wafting from a side table in a quaint 18th-century country village; it's perfect. When it comes to the formula of this soap, my sensitive skin just drinks in this soap and I'm so happy I went for the larger bar as I can enjoy this delight anytime during the year with no breakouts to worry about. The Sleepy Hollow Soap Sample Pack (6) collection Another over the moon experience with this amazing little shop! This soap sample collection was the perfect option for me as I had the chance to try every delightful and devilish offering of the Sleepy Hollow release. The sizes of the bars were still extremely generous and I can easily see receiving months worth of use for mere pennies! Each sample carries its own character and the artistry that goes into each soap creation (and packaging/presentation) needs to be applauded. The swirls, peaks and colourful flashes just easily catch the eye and these slabs of historical and literature inspiration would look divine displayed in a guest bathroom ready to welcome all home for the holidays. The Headless Horseman Scent notes: Dragon's blood resin, earth & moss As it says on the tin, sweet dragon's blood cut thru with rich notes of earth and rusted metal (depending how your nose interprets patchouli). It's a clever simple fragrant medley made all the more striking with the vibrant shades of orange, yellow and red layered with charcoal creating the impression of rising flames within the bar. Another beautiful piece of scented bath art to recommend that not only looks attractive displayed on the bath ledge but gently treats those of us with sensitive skin and has added benefits of charcoal for troubled skin as well. Almond Plum and Apple Crumble Scent Notes: Toasted Almonds, Sugared Plums & Sweet Apples My favourite sample out of the bunch and fingers crossed this delectable fragrance will return next year in a hair oil or perfume because this one is good enough to tempt a bite out the soap bar and I would love to be wrapped all around with this fruity delight from head to toe. I enjoy canning and baking during the colder months and Almond Plum and Apple Crumble smells exactly like the real thing with cooked plums and apple simmering in the pot and a soft crumbly almond crust and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Just like Olde Fashioned Gingerbread I can imagine this aroma wafting from an 18th-century New England sideboard ready to be devoured by all those welcome to the table. A must-try if you love realistic plum or dark fruit scents. Sleepy Hollow Pumpkin Pie Scent Notes: Spiced Pumpkin & Apple Pie with Butterscotch This one is for those that love the sweet in life and not so much the spice. I was looking for a pungent rich spiced pumpkin fragrance to wash away my anxieties and ease my tight muscles, but I get more thick butterscotch, traditional pie crust and sweet apple than creamy warm pumpkin. I'll happily stick with Olde Fashioned Gingerbread and Almond Plum and Apple Crumble for those days I need to float away. Olde Fashioned Gingerbread Scent Notes: Sticky gingerbread, autumn spices, and frosting. *Addendum to above, in addition to it smelling like thick moist cake, it has the bonus of having real cocoa powder between the layers. Watch it (and others) being made here I love watching soap making videos, it's like baking only with a fragrant bubbly bar you get to rub all over yourself and can forget about the pesky extra calories (let's explore that thought, they seriously need to create edible soap bars; that and smell-o-vision)! Mists & Magic Scent Notes: Earl Grey Tea & Vanilla Bathing in tea and I'm one happy lady. This smells realistic with soft lemony tea and a non-gourmand vanilla undertone that is lovely and unexpected. This is another blend I would love to own a hair oil in and see a perfume for others. I'm not surprised this particular bar sold out so quickly. The Pickety Witch (soap and perfume oil) Scent Notes: Warm & Rich Amber, Vanilla & Clove *a sample vial was found tucked into my purchased order all done up in a fitting black organza bag) The Pickety Witch, The Pickety Witch. Who's got a kiss for The Pickety Witch? Hehe oh this one is a bit naughty and mysterious. It's only 3 listed notes but these are blended marvellously together and I get this heated stickiness and some unlisted floral (rose or violet?) underneath the romantic vanilla. The clove stays true and adds a dry warmth to the sweeter notes and in regards to the longevity, The Pickety Witch still turns my head 5 hours later. The soap bar version of this fragrance all the previous positives are true with the bonus of the romantic vanilla amplified slightly to my nose. It's a sultry bath delight made all the more relaxing with the gorgeous black, gold and purple swirls in the bar you can just lose yourself in. Country Market Crafts Blame it on the Peanut Butter craving again (haha) as I found myself at yet another doorway to a new house of fragrance in the hopes of smelling like one of life's wonderful guilty pleasures. Leave-In Hair Conditioner / Detangling Spray in Peanut Butter Cookie As it says on the tin, this smells like a freshly baked Peanut Butter Cookie, right down to the perfect golden underside, but the scent only lasts 10 seconds in my hair before disappearing completely and leaving softness and impressive manageability for my long mane. My thick waist-length hair acts as a sponge when it comes to different scents so I shouldn't be surprised. My bottle is nearly empty a month later so even with that unfortunate negative of the scent disappearing it's still safe to say this purchase was an absolute winner when it comes to the formula. Next time I'll go with Snickerdoodle or something heavily spiced or fruit laced. Delicious lesson learned. Bath Bomb in Sleepy Time Scent Notes: Lavender, Chamomile and Lily of Valley *a surprise gift with purchase sample Every time I step into my water-filled sanctuary and all my cares float away in a fragrant cloud of vibrant coloured bubbles, I always ask myself "how on earth I have gone this far in life without trying bath bombs?" They are seriously heaven sent and this shop's formula is impressive, very gentle plus long-lasting with the fragrance that is both sweetly herbal and floral. It's another lovely addition to my favourite things in my bath to recommend. *Reviews composed in October 2020 There is nothing like a good long soak and wanting to wrap yourself in a blanket of comforting fragrance especially during this most wonderful time of the year. Others may seek apple, teas or grab for cottony linen scents to fulfill those wishes, but for me, I hunt for warm spice and delicious pumpkin and wow, did I find a whole trove of fragrant autumnal delights this year. This is Part I of the reason I have no desire to leave my tub and am continually tempted throughout the day to nibble my hair, haha. Alchemic Muse (also on ETSY) Pumpkin Lilac hair mist/styling spray (scent notes: A rich, sweet blend with whispers of lilac petals and autumn lily flowers followed by a heart of pumpkin seeds, spicy coriander, cinnamon sugar and cashmere vanilla and anchored with notes of amber, cedar wood and sheer musk.) This hidden little gem of a store excels at creating stunning floral blends and quasi-gourmands and my hair mist of Pumpkin Lilac was a perfect example at the artistry this shop can offer, as it showcases creamy sweet spice, herbs and lovely ghostly florals and soft timeless elegance. I can't stop carefully spritzing my curls and huffing the comforting sugared spice. The formula is gentle though effective as I can set marcel waves or pinup curls easily overnight. I do have to watch how much I spray as I can easily turn full bouncy glossy looking strands in the mirror to straight greasy weighted down tendrils. It's a constant balancing act with my finicky hair, but after 4 bottles from this charming little shop I think I have it down and I keep reaching for this formula. I did notice with Pumpkin Lilac the fragrance doesn't have the thick floral throw that my bottles of Ostara and Dreamcatcher can produce with an extra accidental spritz. Another curious thing to jot down is the divine aroma in the bottle is getting stronger by the week. I would love this scent in a perfume or soap bar. Fingers crossed it returns next year. Pumpkin Cocoa perfume (A scrumptious treat of freshly carved pumpkin drizzled with rich Belgian chocolate and cocoa absolute lightly dusted with warm spice.) *a sample vial found nestled in my order Just like the hair mist fragrance, this perfume is gaining strength every day and I'm in love as this one is absolutely delectable. Pumpkin Cocoa opens with realistic dry cocoa and floured pumpkin cookies sprinkled with cinnamon then morphs throughout the day to mouthwatering hidden gooey marshmallow. I think we have a new autumnal favourite here and the starting of another mass of samples because I MUST now explore Alchemic Muse's full Pumpkinfest collection. This Pumpkin Whore is impressed! This next indie bath shop is somewhat familiar in a unique way as the owner is none other than B Perry and the original owner and creator of Villainess Soap, so I knew I was already in a mistress's realm with self pampering bath treats and I waited excitedly for their pumpkin option to appear on my screen. In the meantime I learned all I could about the distinct dessert menu type of choices before deciding on a layering combination with the 'Pinup Pumpkin'. I initially only planned to purchase one pot to introduce myself to Sugar Spider's soap and scrub formulas and fragrances but what can I say? So many combinations called me with their sweet siren calls and then I finished off each bath confection with something called Glitterkruimel (one of the best decisions I made that month)! Here were my final choices and thoughts. Sugar Spider Body Scrubs Jar 1 with layers of: Topping of Glitterkruimmel Pinup Pumpkin (Creamy pumpkin, tangy cheesecake, a sweet caramel sauce, and a flirty touch of spice) Devil's Food (Dark chocolate, more chocolate, some cake, and a bitter splash of espresso.) Pinup Pumpkin (Creamy pumpkin, tangy cheesecake, a sweet caramel sauce, and a flirty touch of spice) Chantilly Crème Ganache (Smooth, sweet vanilla bean and other delights) This particular concoction smells of pumpkin latte and sweet pretzels and the consistency is just fascinating as it comes out of the jar as part sticky pliable dough and sugar paste. A spoon was required and completed this fun illusion of enjoying some fantastical dessert. The scrub itself has a perfect balance of polish and fragrant sparkles. I feel so pampered and this scrub did a phenomenal job on my elbows and heels. Now that's how to wash away a lousy week and start anew. Jar 2 with layers of: Topping of Glitterkruimmel Pinup Pumpkin (Creamy pumpkin, tangy cheesecake, a sweet caramel sauce, and a flirty touch of spice) Ghost Chocolate (Stark white chocolate haunted with a breath of cardamom.) Pinup Pumpkin (Creamy pumpkin, tangy cheesecake, a sweet caramel sauce, and a flirty touch of spice) Blue Marshmello Ganache (Sweet, sticky, marshmallow fluff) Jar 1 was lovely, but Jar 2 is simply sublime! I get my spice and luscious pumpkin cheesecake (complete with a hint of graham cracker) along with the unmistakable aromas of creamy tempered white chocolate and fresh marshmallows. I want to eat the contents and I can't get my nose out of jar, haha (I did end up with a bit of glitterkruimmel on my nose as my reward for my childlike antics and I had a good laugh in the mirror later that night). For this scent confection, the warm spice is offset by the creaminess of the cheesecake and white chocolate with a heavenly marshmallow finish. As I explored each layer I noticed the "ganaches" are a softer soap with powdered sugar added and would gently foam when rubbed on the skin. Overall I'm completely enamoured and will be ordering more jars, Speculoos, Peppermint Schtick, Dead Lilacs and of course moar PINUP PUMPKIN, all call me! *review written in July 2020 I became aware of Folktale Bath Apothecary through a "story" on social media and one peek at their enchanting aesthetic and I knew I had to give them a whirl. I was very fortunate at that time I started delving into their catalogue they offered some lilac scented items and well the rest is history, haha. I ordered on July 11th as a late birthday gift to myself and my parcel shipped the next day and arrived the 22nd from Canada. Everything came in quaint packaging and was even sealed with fitting black wax with their emblem. It pained me to rip the paper and break the seals but the smell of delicate lilacs and seductive pomegranate called from within. I meant to wait for Sunday to indulge but in all honesty, I needed a reason to smile and special boost today so I sliced a portion of the Lilac soap and grabbed the ultra generous sized samples and locked myself away from the world. The following were my overall impressions. ____________________________________________________________ ✒All hair items below were used by themselves with no additional argan oils or detanglers used. I wanted to get the full true effect. ✒For those curious I have thick fine waist-length hair that loves to tangle and knot. I can't think of a more worthy opponent for a hair product, can you? Lilac Blooms Artisan Soap (sweet, delicate scent of lilacs) (Ingredients: Aqua, sodium olivate, sodium cocoate, sodium sunflowerseedate, sodium castorate, parfum, mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, manganese violet) The one that tempted me from the corners of the web and I'm over the moon with this soap bar. The scent is what it says on the tin, delicate and beguiling lilacs. When it comes to the formula this bar passed every test I threw at it with flying colours. It was moisturizing, realistically fragrant without being heady (the scent lasted only as long as it took to rinse off) and (probably the most challenging test of them all) it didn't break me out on my face or shoulders. In fact, my face is petal-soft even without my nightly cold cream. I must also mention for the price of the soap bar, the slice is nicely sized and I definitely received my money's worth. It's a lovely swirled floral chunk! Lilac Blooms Luxury Hair Oil (Ingredients: Prunus armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Parfum) When it comes to hair oils, this goldilocks is quite picky. I can't abide too greasy or sticky formulas that leaves my tresses looking like I didn't even bother to wash or style my hair and I will instantly regret choosing a brand if I can detect the base oil over the promised fragrance on the bottle. It's an arduous quest but Folktale Bath conjured up some real magic with their hair oil and presented a wonderful balance of hair-loving and effective oil; my locks just drank this formula in and it defined my curls nicely with the promised dainty scent of spring lilacs and still managed to stay soft to the touch when my hair dried. I'm impressed. ____________________________________________________ 🌠The following were found nestled among my purchases, thank you Folktale Bath Apothecary! Blackbird Cottage Artisan Soap (scent: fresh, sweet fig jam and sweet black currants) (Ingredients: Aqua, sodium olivate, sodium cocoate, sodium sunflowerseedate, sodium castorate, parfum, titanium dioxide, tin oxide, iron oxide, carbon) As with the Lilac Blooms bar, the formula is incredible and I greatly appreciate that the soap slice doesn't immediately melt away so they will last quite a while. The scent of Blackbird Cottage I'm still trying to puzzle together, it's sweet and playful with a bit of wicked mysterious edge. I like it but I'm not sure I would purchase a larger bar. Perhaps I'll change my mind in the coming weeks before this shop unveils some Fall scent treats. Solid Shampoo Bar in Villainess (scent: Pomegranate, Warm Vanilla, Sacred Woods) (Ingredients: Sodium Lauryl, Sulfoacetate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Cocamidopropyl, Betaine, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Butylene Glycol, Sodium Lactate, Hydrolyzed Silk, DL-Panthenol, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol & Caprylyl Glycol & Sorbic Acid) It's hard to believe I've gone this far in life without trying a shampoo bar but here we are tonight, haha. This sample was the most fragrant of them all as I immediately smelled the dark alluring pomegranate wafting from the paper and something like amber hiding just underneath the tempting fruit. As I said this was a first for me so I learned eventually through my bath and shower that cold water is not as effective as hot warm to get the silky froth going with Villainess. Once I learned that little lesson I immediately felt a positive change under my fingers with the texture of my hair. That feeling only magnified itself as I rinsed, towelled my head and started brushing out my long mane. It's so soft and it did a decent job with aiding in detangling alone (with a lovely aroma of romantic vanilla to top things off). After all that, I went to the ETSY site and started loading up my basket from this charming storefront, but noticed the shampoo bar was missing. Messaging the owner (fabulous customer service by the way; very courteous, knowledgeable and prompt) I was told that the shampoo bars will be restocked in the coming weeks. Good thing because Villainess and me are quite the pair and I feel the need to hoard, haha. I finally found an elegant pomegranate fragrance that brings to mind what Persephone would don. The search is over. Folktale Bath Apothecary Delectable scent confections and history, what more could a lady ask for? Perhaps seconds. I should have picked up more dusting powders...but I'm jumping ahead of myself. These are my 2 parcels of springtime fragrant treats combined and ready to be rambled about. Spray-In Detangler formula- You have heard it once, twice and are about to hear it again about this magic hair elixir that is my holy grail hair product I've been searching for all my life. THIS STUFF WORKS. With my (past) waist length mane, I run through a generous sized bottle about every month and half and I truly receive my full money's worth with these products (I can't stop touching my soft manageable hair now). The longevity on the fragrance varies between each blend, however, I have discovered different fruit and spice based bottles can last days in my hair. Aurelia (Gathered Notes and Description: Delicious ripe raspberries top this lovely, raspberry jam filled, white wedding cake, doused with vanilla cream, topped with dried red rose petals, and with a hint of Sandalwood ambered musk) Let's start off this long overdue review with showcasing my beloved Aurelia! She is the perfect marriage of gourmand and floral and a must try if you adore realistic raspberries. In the detangler more of the vanilla cream with decadent fruit is pronounced on my locks versus on my skin with the perfume and the rose is just the perfect topping. I can expect one to two days of the aroma of one of the greatest desserts I have had on my plate accompanying me and Aurelia keeps her well deserved crown in my book. She is the fairest smelling of them all and she is finally home! Field of Dreams (Gathered Notes and Description: (formerly Lavender Fields) A blended Amber, with Lavender Kashmir, Lavender absolute, and Lavender (Lavendula Angustifolia Moldova) I was so tempted to just fill my basket with everything Aurelia this past January and call it a night, but at the last moment I got this impulse to be a bit adventurous and try some new fragrances just for you all. Okay, I also have a weakness for Moona's Lavender oils and when I saw real Lavendula Angustifolia Moldova blended with amber, into the basket Field of Dreams went. This one is soft lavender, I never understood what others meant by a lavender being soft until I spritzed this lovely hair tonic on my head for the first time. It's so dreamy and pretty, however fleeting as the smell hardly lasts a few hours in my hair. I'm definitely placing this one down for next year in some bath products, perfume and dusting powder. Field of Dreams would be a divine sleep fragrance. Poetry (Gathered Notes and Description: Romance is in the air with this balance of scent between floral, citrus, spice, and resin. Orange blossom cream with an English Toffee swirl and a touch of Frankincense and Ginger.) And with one spray Poetry has joined Nui Cobalt's LOVE as fragrances that transport me into a Pre-Raphaelite painting or a stained glass window. This is a gorgeous work of art and I must grab the perfume and dusting powder next year. The uplifting elegant orange blossom opens the scene then this creamy toffee swirl with a hint of resins and spice appear and completely transforms this scent confection differing itself from the Yule Wonder called Whole. Poetry has more depth and morphing elements than Whole. For longevity oddly Poetry only lasts about 8 to 10 hours versus Whole which still captivates days later. With that said, I need to remember to layer this Tudor-era inspired fragrance; I'm completely okay with that necessity. Argan Oil Hair Rescue formula- I can't have or recommend the detangler without mentioning the argan oil formula MoonaLisa offers because they are a match made in hair heaven and these products have worked absolute magic on my tresses. I have never had such shiny healthy looking hair. The Argan Oil I use after I have brushed out my mane with the aid of the Detangler then I add a dime size amount of argan oil in different scents to the end of my hair. If I have any excess oil on my hands I flip my hair down and place the excess in the back of my head. I run thru a bottle about every 3 months and they are worth every penny. Aurelia (Gathered Notes and Description: Delicious ripe raspberries top this lovely, raspberry jam filled, white wedding cake, doused with vanilla cream, topped with dried red rose petals, and with a hint of Sandalwood ambered musk) She's baack and this time she carries in her wake sweetened raspberry cake to tempt just one lick and the barest hint of romantic rose petals and sandalwood. I simply love that each form of Aurelia amplifies another facet of this delicious scent potion. I plan to compose a more in-depth comparison review once I have all the products from dusting powder to bath salts next year. Queen's Gloves (Gathered Notes and Desciption: This scent was inspired by a recipe for an aromatic powder made to scent the leather gloves of Queen Elizabeth I. This powder was a gift from her secret lover, the Earle of Essex. Date of original recipe is about 1588. It was said she was seen often walking around sniffing the gloves while carrying them in her hand with a smile on her face. Notes include: Egyptian rose absolute, orris root, Benzoin, essence of citron, clove bud, lavender, rosewood, muscade (nutmeg) and Amyris.) This is an ancient regal fragrance that defies conventional expectations of feminine and masculine as it strangely dances the line of both. I fully admit Queen's Glovesm initially caught me completely off guard with a leathery orange and clove opening, but in the months I have spent in its company, it has certainly grown on me and I can faintly detect the rose and lavender if I concentrate. It's one of those note mosaics that immediately harkens back to another era and at the same time allows you to understand another facet of a complex historical figure. Queen's Gloves is the blend to wear if you attend a faire or themed event dealing with the 16th century. THIS is the scent of Gloriana and a romance that could never be! Lip Butters formula- This was my third time ordering the Lip Butters and as with Absinthe Marshmallow and Campfire Tales if I could only stop licking my lips and thinking about eating the sticks, I could fully concentrate and properly catalogue my thoughts. First and foremost the scents are phenomenal and taste like the real thing as promised on the label. For performance, they start out solid then once applied melt on the lips and I haven't had an annoying breakouts with this formula, which is fantastic. If I had to rate them overall, I would say they are the upper middle of better formulas I have tried. They nicely moisturize, but I don't think I would use them for the harsh winter months when I need a balm with moderate repairing properties. For me, they are more suited for light work if that makes sense and I will enjoy these Lip Butters spring and summer and early fall. Rose Petal Jam lip butter As it says on the tin, a soft delicious rose fragrance that tastes like taking a bite of a sugared rose petal with a tart jammy finish. I wish this came in a perfume option or body powder. I save this beauty for special occasions or when I'm reading special Tudor inspired fiction. It's romantic and delicious. Gift with Purchase: Massage Bar (Made with cocoa, coconut and shea butter, bees wax, Lavender buds and organic Lavender essential oil) *Thank you, Moona! Can we just pause for a moment and admire the stunning artistry that goes into MoonaLisa's packaging and branding? I'm honestly blown away every time I open a newly themed collection and I look forward to the mystery of the artwork or fine details in the items tucked into each parcel. This massage bar is no exception as it came wrapped in a lovely historical-styled tableau and the bar was shaped as an adorable heart with "nubs" and real lavender buds peeking through. The scent is heavenly, creamy cocoa and lavender and that aroma carries over into the shower in addition to the beeswax. I would purchase a large chunk of this in a heartbeat, it worked wonders on my elbows and heels. Confetti Cake detangler (Scent Description: Big white fluffy cake, with mounds and mounds of freshly made buttercream icing, sprinkled with bright and cheery Confetti sprinkles.) Speaking of surprises, Confetti Cake took well the cake, haha, when it came to the unexpected of these orders. I was anticipating the most exquisite vanilla cake with sugared vanilla icing and wouldn't you know it, it smells like banana cake. It was nice (especially the scrumptious vanilla part), a bit nostalgic and I used the entire bottle, but I don't think I would repurchase the detangler. Perhaps I would like Confetti Cake in a milk bath. Oh well, can't love everything and my pocketbook sighs in relief. Bongo Poppy Cake detangler (Scent Description: Delicious, lemon poppy seed cake, drowned with an unhealthy dose of lightly spiced cream cheese icing dripping all over it!) Now my pocketbook can start panicking because Bongo Poppy Cake is coming home in EVERYTHING next year. Oh, this is amazing, at first it smells like sweet happy lemon fruity pebbles then as it warms up on my curls it resembles homemade lemon cake and I'm completely smitten with this comforting fragrance. The hype about Bongo Poppy Cake was warranted. It's the best lemon cake blend I have found in my years of collecting and I must get a perfume bottle of this. For longevity, I get a full day and a half of waltzing about smelling of delightful lemon cake with the smallest dollop of cream cheese. Just perfection! Dusting Powder formula- I feel I'm reconnecting or channeling a lost portion of myself when I use dusting powders and if you want to feel fancy grab a canister and shake shake to be swept away or be reminded of a time of luxury and self pampering. I should have purchased dusting powder years ago as this is a marvellous experience that just leaves my skin silky soft and smelling like a delicate brush of whatever fragrance is listed on the generously sized can. For more personal reasons why I adore this formula, it doesn't cake no how much I use at one time, it keeps unwanted dampness away in the unforgiving heat and helps with annoying rubbing from undergarments. I want to savor these canisters for as long as possible so I only allow an indulgence every Sunday before a full week of night work. It's just an extra special treat to look forward to that only MoonaLisa can offer. Lilac and Hyacinths dusting powder (Scent Description: Bloom open your day with this beautiful & fresh scent of Lilacs and Hyacinths) Exactly as it says on the tin, it's like covering yourself in a lavish spread of lilac and hyacinth blooms! The scent is delicate in the dusting powder form so I must in theory purchase everything to layer with, right? I seriously need to go with my gut anymore when I'm in the heat of these hunger games type releases, I knew I was going to adore this and yet I only stopped at one canister of floral olfactory magic. Lesson learned. Mmmhm. A very hard lesson learned and shall not be need repeated. Gift with Purchase: One Note Wonder Liquid Soap in Honeyed Strawberry & Rhubarb *thank you, Moona! I don't know how this Willy Wonka (or would it be Willivine or Wilhelmina?) of the Indie World does it, but everything she makes smells like a luxurious treat for yourself that you want to nibble on or tempt a lick of. Even soap! This is another gem I'm hiding away and only using on special occasions, it smells like sugared crushed strawberry juice and tart rhubarb straight from the garden. If I concentrate I want to say something floral is also mixed within this sunny fragrance. It almost reminds me of Ramo's Raspberry & Rose just with a sweet strawberry twist. Overall, a definite keeper and scent treasure to hoard away. MoonaLisa: A Supernatural Clean I now own several pairs of historical inspired earrings and necklaces all fashioned by this talented artist (who may very well be a time traveller) and when speaking about the above pictured I have been searching years for emerald themed earrings such as these. What a find and what a joy to see different beloved eras of study in the design (I see Edwardian and Tudor). I can't stop looking at them! They just glow with intensity in the lamplight and I have so many outfits to match these earrings with. When it comes to Boheme Bijou it's phenomenal customer service and quality and attention to detail from bygone eras of romance and class that is all unsurpassed in my book. Boheme Bijou The word stunning doesn't even begin to describe my experience with Dark Tales and my necklace. Picture this, being greeted by a cascade of lovely little dried rosebuds when you open your parcel and being dazzled by the flash and glitter of tiny glowing jewels surrounding a piece of mini art that brings to mind the quote "a touch of magic in this world obsessed with science" (if you know what movie that quote is from, you are immediately my friend) which you can't wait to take out for the night in addition to no camera photograph truly capturing its strange alluring beauty. Finally to end the experience 2 beautifully presented perfume vials that hold their own stories and a corked vial of tea that promises a tannic fruit-filled escape. THAT'S what you will get with Dark Tales and I will be back for more (seriously jump on these prices while you can, you won't be disappointed!). Poison Bottle Necklace | Alchemist | Gothic | Victorian | Vampire Blood *discontinued Described as a blend of magic, dark romance and mystery and this piece is all of these things and more as it looks like it belongs on the neck of historical-fantasy's title enchantress or horror siren in a Victorian drama. The flash and glitter of the different stones allows me to match this necklace with any outfit I wish and the true strange beauty of the vial holds my attention long into the night as I can't stop staring at the intricate details and puzzling how this sealed over vial looks so much like coagulated blood (coming from a nurse to say, that is quite the feat and should be applauded as strange as that sounds) or lovely wicked poison if you are squeamish, and yet if someone were to casually glance at this piece they would only see a high-quality trinket with twinkling stones and small red glass vial; I simply love I can wear this to workplace setting and still feel elegant and entirely unique. My box also contained a few extra samples of the different kinds of curious wares this shop holds. I must also comment on the level of detail and attention that is apparent in the packaging of every product. EVERYTHING just looks like it is from some wonderful mysterious fairy tale and tied with fitting black ribbons. Perfume Oils Morning Powder (White musk, Honey Peach, Rose, Geranium and Vanilla) My skin is unfortunately sensitive to glycerin so I have been brushing a tiny bit into my hair in the morning. And this is a beautiful vintage rose that wafts around with a drop of peach and honey. I love the description on the site talking about clean morning sheets, but this oil reminds me more of a luxurious bath of tea rose petals and drop of peach juice with vanilla honey. On me, Morning Powder is definitely more rose forward and I'm impressed the peach isn't morphing and staying true. Very nice🌹 Old Library (Bergamot, Basil, Rose Tree, Cedar, Vanilla, Vetiver, Peruvian Balsam) *Inspired by "The Name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco Out of the two vials, this fragrance is my favourite as I get this wood laced spice/herbal blend that catches my full attention throughout the day and it's easy to imagine this being the fragrance of a medieval monastery library complete with aged manuscripts and dusty rose petals between the stacks. For longevity, these perfumes tap out at about 4 hours on my skin and 13+ hours in my curls. They aren't obtrusive to those around me which I greatly appreciate as my workplace has a strict fragrance policy. Loose Tea Midnight Fairy (composition of the "Midnight Fairy" includes a mixture of classic black and green teas, candied fruit, rose petals, cornflower, and natural aromatic oils.) I'm still a novice tea drinker, but I know what I like and I LOVE this tea blend. In the corked vial I clearly smell luscious peach and that note continues to enchant my senses as I steep this brew. I enjoy my tea cold and fizzy and Midnight Fairy makes a splendid bubbly tea as I call them when it is added to a carbonator with a drop of honey. It's refreshing, sweet and delicious and I would absolutely purchase a full bag or go for the lovely tea sampler this shop offers. Overall: I was extremely impressed with everything I was presented with and I have a strong feeling this won't be my only review about Dark Tales this year. Dark Tales As I have aged the holiday season has become cold and mournful (everyone you care for leaves and you are left staring at empty chairs and alone with shadows of regrets), however there are memories of once happy times that keep some spark of cheer glowing for myself in November through January and MoonaLisa: A Supernatural Clean somehow taps into those secret recollections with their realistic smelling gourmands, touches of vintage delight and whimsy and overall presentation that whisks all me away to a better place and time and I can't recommend this enchanting shop enough for someone that needs a smile or a unexpected reminder of comfort and joy not just in the winter months but throughout the year. Winter Spray-In Hair Tangler formula- I'll open this rambling long overdue review with first commenting on MoonaLisa's Hair Detangler formula which is a true holy grail for myself and something my vanity table will never be seen without. It's not only a compulsion anymore but an absolute necessity to stock up with as many bottles of these hair-loving elixirs as I can afford every release and then hoard them away to treat myself to a unique blend every morning and night. With my (past) waist length mane, I run through a generous sized bottle about every month and half and I truly receive my full money's worth with these products (I can't stop touching my soft manageable hair now). The longevity on the fragrance varies between each blend, however, I have discovered citrus and spice based bottles can last days in my hair. I know I keep saying this every post when it comes to MoonaLisa, but it's the truth: where has this product been all my life!? Iced Gingerbread (Gathered Notes and Description: Realistic Gingerbread blend with mild nostalgic Yuletide spice and white icing) As it says on the tin and this is my holy grail gingerbread fragrance home at last to spray and lavish my locks anytime I wish. To touch briefly on the scent composition (I still have the perfume and argan hair oil versions to gush about shortly) this is a rich spicy cookie scent with white chocolate icing very reminiscent of the old fashioned animal crackers we are all still looking for when we pass the cookie aisle or visit little mom & pop stores. When it comes to longevity I can enjoy about 3 days of spice, vanilla and happy thoughts with Iced Gingerbread in the detangler and I have found it pairs fabulously with different floral perfumes I happen to dab in my curls; lilac with Iced Gingerbread is my current favourite and fingers crossed a certain scent artist reads this and creates this magical marriage next year. Christmas Cocoa (Gathered Notes and Description: What warms your heart and hearth more than a steaming cup of Christmas Cocoa. Hot cocoa with an espresso shot, topped with gobs of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, chili and nutmeg, with a hint of sweet smoldering yule fire in the distance.) This is Moona's signature chocolate accord shot through with espresso and a glorious sky-high mound of realistic whipped cream with a dusting of spice and wisp of smoke. It was also one of the first bottles from this haul I was tempted to take a little taste of. The listed smoke is becoming more noticeable as this bottle is aging and I wore this detangler (along with my S'mores & Hot Cocoa perfume also by MoonaLisa) to a regional cake festival this past January and I had a few people leaning (uncomfortably) close and saying something smelled delicious while in a long line to get to the festival, so I guess those two fragrances are winners! For similar blends to look out for during the year, those that have had the pleasure to try Cauldron Cakes in the fall, you would love Christmas Cocoa. Snuggler (Gathered Notes and Description: The drink of choice while wintering in North Beach, San Francisco! Rich dark hot cocoa and peppermint schnapps.) Another fragrance I fell hard for last winter and had to indulge in a special treat for myself in 2019. The mysteries of skin chemistry still amaze me and hold so many surprises in store it seems because however how decadent and unexpectedly akin to dark chocolate cake Snuggler smells in the perfume verison, the peppermint schnapps amplifies in my hair with the detangler form and I do have to watch in case I'm taken for a holiday lush when first applied, haha oops. That punch of peppermint booze calms down though but I still enjoy this fragrance at home and may just spoil myself further next year and get a dusting powder to cover myself in. The longevity of Snuggler in the detangler is also impressive going on for nearly 2 days. Blood Orange & Chocolate (Gathered Notes and Description: Just like the traditional Yuletide candy treat! Made with only real Orange essential oil, as are ALL of our citrus oils are ALWAYS all natural! And rich, dark Chocolate fragrance and Cocoa Absolute) Sitting back I guess I collected quite a few chocolate blends with this haul and was craving something particular. Saying that, I'm sad to admit, Blood Orange & Chocolate wasn't exactly for me and I will stick with Whole for my dream winter orange aroma next year; this one although extremely realistic to chocolate covered oranges just didn't work in my hair as a fragrance. I bet Blood Orange & Chocolate would be divine in a soap or bath milk and I will try that form eventually as the orange is tart and sweet smelling while the cocoa absolute grounds it. I still used the entire bottle of this detangler and highly recommend it if you love the scent of chocolate covered fruit. Longevity and throw was mixed for this blend, certain times it would go for 2 days that I could still smell the citrus and others I couldn't smell it on my braid late that night. Ah well, that happens, can't fall for everything (and my pocketbook sighs in relief). Noona's Christmas Cookies (Gathered Notes and Description: A tribute to KC’s (Mooman) Sicilian Great-Grandmother. Made just like KC’s Nonna would make her special cookies ever year! A little of this, and a little of that) Well here's another bottle I was tempted to drink as Noona's Christmas Cookies is fresh oatmeal cookies from the oven drizzled in white chocolate, a hint of warm spice in the bottle and then has a bewitching realistic milky creaminess that amplifies in my hair. Mmm absolutely magnificent and I had to put a note on this bottle to use all others before even touching this scent confection again...and the bottle is nearly empty in June. I plan to hoard up on this scent come Yule 2020 in everything I can afford. For longevity this delicious smelling gem goes on for a day so I will definitely be layering it with the perfume, lotion, dusting powder and argan oil this coming winter to get the maxium scrumptious effect. I want to smell like a walking cookie! Iced Gingerbread (Gathered Notes and Desciption: Realistic Gingerbread blend with mild nostalgic Yuletide spice and white icing) If anything the spices amplify a tiny bit more in the argan oil form which is perfectly okay with me as I can't stop talking about and stop waltzing about with this halo of irresistible gingerbread and white icing complete with vanilla extract and butter. I must hoard more next year and never run out. Milk Bath in Snuggler (Gathered Notes and Description: The drink of choice while wintering in North Beach, San Francisco! Rich dark hot cocoa and peppermint schnapps.) This was my first Milk Bath purchase and certainly not my last as the formula is gentle and moisturzing plus fragrant with a boozy peppermint patty scent I could just float in. I have also tested this item on my tresses and it works wonderfully as a mild shampoo in a pinch as well as a shaving lather and of course as a bubble bath formula (it makes a nice blanket of minty bubbles with the smallest drops added to running water). The milk bath itself is a pearlescent white when poured and the scent lasts as long as it takes to get out of my water filled sanctuary. I can immediately put on any perfume I choose and the aromas do not clash. I need this in The Rumpkin!, Kitchen Witch, Lilacs & Hyacinths (review coming soon) and my beloved Aurelia. Uh oh, this is the start of another fragrant collection, hehe. *Must mention the adorable pop-up ornament of a gingerbread house that was tucked in my order (this shop makes you feel so special with every package). I displayed it in my office at work, thank you so much Moona! Snow Ice (Gathered Notes and Description: Fond memories Moona has when a child at camp during the Nevada snows, making natural "ice cream" from ice cold snow, condensed milk, Sugar and Vanilla extract. This scent is reminiscent of that: sweet crystallized vanilla sugar and cream) Mmm! What can I say this is another holy grail perfume for me as this is most delectable vanilla I have encountered in the indie realm [claps]. Snow Ice is sublime, a true masterpiece as it's dreamy and gourmand but never childish or cloying and anyone could wear this as it isn't heavy and perfect for the workplace setting. I call this "lace ice cream" because it's so pretty, finishes off any look and yet so delicous smelling. I know this is a winter scent but I happily wear this oil all year round, very happy I purchased a full bottle. Iced Gingerbread (Gathered Notes and Desciption: Realistic Gingerbread blend with mild nostalgic Yuletide spice and white icing) The search is over, THIS is the gingerbread perfume of my dreams I have been searching for ever since I stepped foot into the indie perfume realm. We have here the ideal gingerbread scent sealed in a bottle along with a whiff of iced animal crackers I fondly remember and even a trace of butter and old-fashioned vanilla extract that appears after 6 hours. It's warm, comforting, incredibly realistic AND it stays on my skin more than 10 minutes (I finally have a gingerbread scent confection I can wear everywhere). I'm so happy and can't stop dancing! Surprise Extra Gifts (thank you, MoonaLisa: A Supernatural Clean) The Gloaming perfume oil (Birch, silver fir, spruce, Cypress, peppermint, frankincense, cinnamon bark) *a sample that appeared in my one yule order/ there were 2 and I combined them for this review. This shop is renowned for their gourmand scents but they also do realistic resins and earthy fragrances magnificently as well and The Gloaming is a perfect example. When applied it's like being directly underneath a pine tree with the needles and dirt, it's extremely relaxing and has a meditative quality I can lose myself in. I swear I smell unlisted patchouli as I'm receiving that familiar "peanut butter and metal mix" my skin chemistry morphs patchouli into with different blends and I'm in love. The refreshing peppermint appears hours later and I have been using The Gloaming to escape the June heat as I fall asleep. I hope this fragrance appears this coming winter because I would love a detangler and bath milk or bath salt pot in The Gloaming. I think Krampus Night! has some competition. Simmering Potpourri in Yuletide Cheer (Listed as "an all natural blend of All-spice, Grapefruit peels, Cinnamon Star Anice, Nutmeg, Ginger Root, Hibiscus, Sea Salt & Essential Oils") In the bag, it's sweet fruit with seasonal spices that smell like Wassail or Glogg without the alcohol and I don't know about anyone else but this and the sparkle spray that appeared in the Halloween boxes need to be permanent items with each release. When in the heated pot the fragrance is intoxicating and my house is filled with the heavenly scent of spice and fruit. Bulldog funk is no match for Yuletide Cheer as it transforms everything and brightens moods to all that smell it when they visit. I hope this returns next winter. What a creative extra something special to finish this amazing haul. MoonaLisa: A Supernatural Clean It isn't Halloween or officially fall at my house anymore without a large order from MoonaLisa: A Supernatural Clean and with this huge (beautifully presented) parcel I learned there are a hundred different variations of pumpkin, spice and everything nice that I just want to roll around in. This was only part one of my Moonaween 2019 haul. Witch's Brew Leave In De-Tangler formula- I'll open this rambling long overdue review with first commenting on MoonaLisa's Hair Detangler formula which is a true holy grail for myself and something my vanity table will never be seen without. The Rumpkin! (Delicious pumpkin goodies with a twist of fresh sweet lavender essential oil) Making up over half my first order comes my favourite blend from Moona known to all as The Rumpkin!. When it comes to the perfume oil version versus the detangler form there isn't any difference with strength of the scent I can comment on. All the notes morph and shift with the passing hours and this one gets attention and compliments no matter what form I don for the night. Cauldron Cakes (Deliciously sinful Cauldron Cakes oozing with melted Butter, Cinnamon, and Maple and Vanilla glaze, with a crushed nutting topping, and served with piping hot cappuccino and a tiny, tiny touch of Witching mischief!) I fell hard for my perfume sample of Cauldron Cakes in 2018 and have been patiently saving and circling the site waiting for the day I could spritz my locks to my heart's content with intoxicating maple, butter and realistic fancy cappuccino. It's divine and another rare find for myself that I can wear anything coffee noted. Out of all the bottles of detanglers I purchased this round, Cauldron Cakes lasted the longest running 3 days that I could clearly smell it when I flipped my curls. Another keeper and repurchase for 2020. The Evil Garden (The peaches, apples, plums and pears that are guarded by ferocious bears. Too bad the nurse has disappeared, but in her place has revered, gorgeous flowers that have a smell, which causes one to feel unwell. (but you won't) All these months later and I'm still trying to decipher the notes. When sprayed I get an initial blast of "airy" apple and pear that then morphs to this creepy cotton candy scent with possible freesia and almonds. It's growing on me, but at the same time, it reminds me of this one perfume I wore to my first dance many years ago that ended with me crying trying to find a ride home (thanks brain for hanging onto that lovely memory, hate you too). I have nothing against anything smelling like cotton candy, it's just an unfortunate association that always hits me. I think I need to wear The Evil Garden to a happy event and rebuild my memory attached to anything cotton candy and apple scented. On the plus side, my hair is so soft and fragrant and I do love pear with plums. Kitchen Witch (The aroma of a Kitchen Witch fills the air with sweet, haunting memories, of magic, warmth and spice! The sweet and mouthwatering aroma of creamy Pumpkin Pies, fresh baked Crusts and Cakes, melted Butter, Pecans, Brown Sugar, Vanilla Extract and a touch of spice!) Kitchen Witch and The Evil Garden were fragrances I had never tried before even in perfume samples so imagine the comical scene of me opening the cap to Kitchen Witch and making the most embarrassing noises of pure delight (nearly sticking the applicator up my nose) then racing to the nearest mirror to spray this confection all over not just my head and falling immediately in love and finally placing Kitchen Witch on the "do not use until all other bottles are empty" rotation. Well that's exactly what happened and months later my bottle is nearly empty so that plan and vow went out the window fast as the sugared pie crust, pumpkin, butter hidden orange zest and vanilla spice bomb has completely taken over my senses and I can't stay away from this scent potion. It's another divine blend to recommend and I will be repurchasing Kitchen Witch in everything I can when the times comes. The Rumpkin! (Delicious pumpkin goodies with a twist of fresh sweet lavender essential oil) Just as with the detangler I don't notice any one note dominating over another and I get a perfect marriage of spice and herb with the pumpkin and lavender along with hidden smoke, apple and marshmallow. Sublime in so many ways and I reach for this scent not only in fall but throughout the whole year. What can I say, this self confessed pumpkin whore has found her holy grail blend. Lip Butters formula- This was my first time ordering the Lip Butters and if I could stop licking my lips and thinking about eating the sticks I could concentrate and properly catalogue my thoughts. Onto the scents and er taste compositions! Campfire Tales (S'mores galore! Scootch up to the campfire and get out your roasting stick packed with marshmallows toasted to perfection and sandwiched between buttery graham crackers and creamy milk chocolate) Just as promised this is ooey-gooey marshmallow, realistic chocolate, a swirl of campfire smoke and BUTTERY graham cracker. It tastes like the real thing and yes I want to eat the contents. These are just a pure delight to experience so I will definitely collecting the different flavours with every release. Absinthe Marshmallow Cream (All the green goodness of Absinthe with the fluffy light as feather treat of Marshmallow cream!) My loves all in one delicious confection. Mmm. This one is amazing if you love the herbal bite of absinthe sweetened with marshmallow. Another curious blend and blind purchase that was an instant favourite. I hope Absinthe Marshmallow Cream returns in 2020. Dusting Powder in The Rumpkin! (Delicious pumpkin goodies with a twist of fresh sweet lavender essential oil) I hope everyone isn't tired of me gushing about The Rumpkin! because here's another new item for my vanity table all in my favourite pumpkin and lavender scent. I feel I'm reconnecting or channeling a lost portion of myself when I use these products such as dusting powders and if you want to feel fancy grab a canister and shake shake to be swept away or be reminded of a time of luxury and self pampering. I should have purchased dusting powder years ago as this is a marvellous experience that just leaves my skin silky soft and smelling like a delicate brush of spiced pumpkin and lavender. For more personal reasons why I adore this formula, it doesn't cake no how much I use at one time, it keeps unwanted dampness away in the unforgiving heat and helps with annoying rubbing from undergarments. I want to savor this canister as long as possible and only allow an indulgence every Sunday before a full week of night work. I have a feeling here is another collection in the making as I want this powder in all my favourite scents by MoonaLisa. Pumpkin Lavender sugar scrub I was determined with this release to explore as many various skin potions and self pampering items as I could and I have had my eye on a jar of Moona's sugar scrub for over a year. Right on opening a magnificent mixture of spice, fruit and sugared herbs hit my nose and I couldn't wait to use this formula. How very curious to note that Pumpkin Lavender smells like delectable Apple Jacks (or Jax depending on your age) cereal and a bit of butter. I wasn't expecting that, but overall what a wonderful surprise. For this mixture the sugar is fine granulated adding just enough exfoliating effect to tackle stubborn rough heels and elbows. The scent lasts even when I leave the tub and admire how soft my skin is with only 20 minutes with this jar. I will be repurchasing this scrub as well just as soon as I put a dent in this one. The jar is very generous which I greatly appreciate. Another item worth every penny! Sparkle Spray in Campfire Tales Cream (no listed notes but it smells exactly like the lip butter with a touch more campfire smoke and graham cracker) *Appeared in my first order, thank you, MoonaLisa! My dark-hearted little self has few weaknesses that I can list and one of those are ANYTHING that is sparkly and plainly speaking this spray is plain delightful entertainment as with one spritz and my arms are covered in a nostalgic twinkling fragrant happiness. It's impossible to be in a bad mood or in a negative frame of mind with this spray. I want every perfume I own to have a sparkle-filled double. I hope this is a permanent option in the coming collections. I would purchase a gallon size of Aurelia in this spray. Name your price, Moona; I must have more of these sparkle sprays! Absinthe Marshmallow perfume oil bottle (All the green goodness of Absinthe with the fluffy light as feather treat of Marshmallow cream!) This is everything I was hoping it would be. The absinthe is true and has that seductive herbal spice you get with licorice or star anise and the marshmallow is soft and powdery that morphs 6 to 8 hours into a buttery vanilla caramel scent that brings to mind Snow Ice. This could very well be a sister scent of that Yule wonder. Fingers crossed Absinthe Marshmallow returns next fall in the hair detanglers option. I want to waltz about with a halo of this glorious comforting green fragrance all year long. I'm thankful I listened to the reviews on this sweet green gem, another distinct corner of my collection now complete. Crone's Cottage perfume oil sample (Everything you would expect from an elder wisewoman's lair! Smoking embers, delicious cakes and breads baking, hanging bushels of botanicals and herbs.) *One of the many surprises tucked away in this second order, thank you so much, Moona! I believe Crone's Cottage was a new blend for 2019 and fingers and toes crossed it returns in 2020 because plain and simple it's an awesome spice and herb bomb! THIS is what I sorely wanted another extremely popular perfume from another shop to smell like on me and was hoping it would conjure- the vision of a true wisewoman's cottage deep in the shadowed forests. Crone's Cottage is straight out of a fairytale realm with the distinct aroma of realistic cakes and goodies laced with herbs that could be used to curse a first born or tempt a prince or king in the doorway to sign away his soul. Hours later, I get something resembling pepper and vanilla that continues to fascinate and delight me (it smells so good!). I adore this fragrance and will be keeping an eye out for its hopeful return. I want Crone's Cottage in a detangler, argan oil and if I start saving now, a few bath products and dusting powder. Witchery soap bar (Sultry ambers, woods and magic!) *Thank you so much Moona! You are the best💜 I'm using the "Pick Your Poison" sticker on my name badge at work🎃 The above sad attempts don't do this soap justice. It's stunning artistry with the marbling and colour shifts and yes, I'm talking about a soap bar. This is a lost art, it really is and I can't get over how pretty Witchery is in presentation and fragrance. I tried to capture the glitter and dried little lavender buds and rose petals embedded on top, but it looks only muddled in a photograph (one of these days I'll take a decent picture). Take it from me Witchery is something to display and show off. It also dimly glows in the dark; did I mention that? YES, this soap flipping GLOWS with some ghostly magic in the pitch dark and this is a first for me. I didn't even know that was possible! The scent is exactly as promised being a sultry rich amber (and possibly a little unlisted dill?) Ultra-nifty effects and presentation aside, I'm thrilled to report my finicky skin plays nice with Moona's soap. I missed out of Sea Witch this last round, that will not be happening again Halloween 2020 (The Rumpkin! I'm coming for yooou!) MoonaLisa: A Supernatural Clean |
