I was surprised by a message on social media offering me a chance to try this posh house of fragrance and am so thankful they reached out and contacted my little shadowy corner. Here's another Indie shop to recommend especially if you are seeking something unexpected, transportive but yet familiar all in the same wave of the wrist! (Thank you again so much, Aether Arts Perfume) Longevity varies between 4 hours (Chrysalis) to 12+ hours (Saffron) Mayan Chocolate (Chiles and Spice Accord, Green Jungle and Orchid Accord, Rich Chocolate, Exotic Woods and Incense Accord) An exotic fragrance journey back through time to experience the raw untouched cacao plant and its natural ceremonial purpose. Fiery lush greenness of chiles and ground spices opens the scene and if you close your eyes the impressive realistic humid air accord intermingled with fruit-laced florals (carrying hints of vanilla and orange blossom upon their curious petals) takes you deeper into this fascinating world that you can't wait to explore further. The lovely promised cacao is bitter and earthy presented on a gold tray and surrounded by wisps of ceremonial incense that lasts hours after application, weaving a scent story to recommend. Saffron (Pink Peppercorn, Turmeric, Saffron, Peach Accord, Cananga and Jasmine Absolute, Vanilla, Hazelnut, Vintage Amber Accord, Tobacco and Suede) Picture this, you're back in childhood and are at a family gathering, dancing around the humphing adults that just find you in the way or blocking the wine table when you get the glimpse of a huge familiar dark purple plumed hat bobbing in the window peeking behind a stack of wrapped gifts; it's Auntie! She's a bit eccentric, but sweet and elegant and is the only relative that isn't afraid to get down on the floor and play for the hundredth time whatever game your little brain can create whilst you dig in her huge vintage leather purse for hidden delicious treats from her travels. Later as you curl up and snuggle into the soft ends of her long cashmere scarf you inhale the powdery creamy vanilla finish of her curious perfume and her latest story of far off places, trivia and events, you can't help but think- is she a secret time traveller? Auntie will never say and only gives you a wink as if she can read your mind. That's what this gentle nutty floral-mand reminds me of and how I hope my nephew will someday remember me. Saffron is full of personality and an unexpected cosy element, what a unique perfume. Burner Perfumes No. 10: Chrysalis (Vanuatu Pepper, Green Coffee, Tomato Leaf, Rhubarb, Green Apple and Melon Aldehydes, Violet, Green Clover and Crystalline Musk). Chrysalis is a beautiful example of exceptions for me as the list of notes scream "beware!" to my brain with the listed rhubarb and aldehydes mentioned as my skin chemistry usually anchors to those fragrances and amplifies them to the heavens and back drowning out any underlying accords but my nose delves in curiosity and inhales pure late summertime bliss with this perfume as it's so magical and airy with a green powdery fruitiness that indeed somehow reminds me of the chrysalis of a monarch butterfly with tones of jade green, gold shimmer and the powder of a butterfly's drying wings. This is one of those perfumes that is nearly impossible to fully dissect, you think you pinned a note down then second guess what you are truly smelling another moment then ultimately give up and just enjoy the splendour of the experience, akin to trying to capture a fluttering monarch. It is said seeing a monarch butterfly is a sign from a loved one who has passed into the other realm and Chrysalis is a beautiful tribute to transformation and gentle messages, it's ethereal and calming. Dia De Muertos (Marigold Absolute, Mimosa Absolute, Jasmine Absolute, Carnations, Guavas, Beeswax Tapers, Earth and Moss) Another transportive medley with smokey florals and exotic tart and sweet fruit leading the way. I curiously own several 'Day of the Dead' scents now and Aether Arts' offering brings my mind to late summertime nights with just the ghostly coolness of autumn on the breeze. It's a lovely fruity laced perfume with an underpinning of realistic beeswax that is one of the longest-lasting of the vials going on to entrance the senses for 6 to 8 hours. It's a must-try if you love realistic floral petals and mouth-watering inducing fruit. Burner Perfume No. 4 John Frum (Fresh Lime and Coconut Water, Mischief Flower, Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Exotic Woods, Vetiver and Vanuatu Pepper) This shop has a certain flair with conjuring visions of distant locales and times with unique fruits but sadly my nose and head didn't enjoy this layover to a tropical escape. I think it's the pepper that overbalances everything and perhaps the ylang ylang that is turning to soap. This was the only vial that was not for me. *Please remember skin chemistries differ and what one note may not work for me may be exactly what someone else is looking for. That's the beauty of perfume oils and the continued mystery that keeps drawing us back for more. Never be afraid to try a blend that interests you. Love for 3 Oranges (3 types of oranges- Flower, Fruit and Tree, Orange Blossoms and Musk) A creamy nostalgic opening as Love for 3 Oranges immediately brings to mind an Orange Creamsicle on a hot summer day. It's creamy and refreshing with an even balance of sweetness and fruit. The musk underneath lends an adult delicious twist at the end elevating this creation from something entirely playful to sophisticated but still joyful. This citrus perfume also lasted beyond 6 hours on my skin which is quite something in my book. I can see how this and several other perfumes by Aether Arts either won fragrance awards or were finalists. Impressive scent artistry and I have my basket full of further explorations (Black Hole, Charybdis, Gunsmoke & Roses, Circe and few others are all calling!) Aether Arts Perfume Comments are closed.
