Travels afar, but predictability, fluff and confusion in store... Oh dear, oh dear. Where to start? This is the third instalment of the Agatha Christie mysteries series and sadly my least favourite out of the trio of novels that play with history just enough to reimagine Dame Christie as a "secret operative" and all-around-detective with quite the resume that leads the way to exotic locales. Unfortunately, what starts out as a strong and intriguing web of mysteries spangled with real-life historical figures in Death in a Desert Land (Agatha Christie, #3) woefully falls by the end of the beginning section and turns entirely into a different book filled with drawn-out fluff and predictable reveals, outcomes and motives by the final page. This story had so much potential, but ultimately it didn't keep my full attention and I hate it when I can figure out the murderer within the first few chapters and a British mystery is riddled with odd Americanisms. I would say skip Death in a Desert Land, however, you may be completely lost in the next instalment as the author references the previous books quite a bit. Here's hoping the next novel recaptures the beautiful complex intrigue of Agatha Christie's own works and stands as another brilliant homage to a poisoned pen. -purchased and read on kindle Other novels in this series: A Talent for Murder (Agatha Christie, #1) by Andrew Wilson A Different Kind of Evil (Agatha Christie, #2) by Andrew Wilson -EGP/July 2019 Comments are closed.
