Thank you so much, Josh and Forest from Nui Cobalt Designs for allowing me access to these scent potions.
Belly Dance (An alluring potion to set the mood for The Sacred Act. Languid blue lotus, spiced date preserves, Egyptian musk, precious benzoin and dark myrrh in an infusion of marjoram.) Ailurophilia sheds her creamy caramel-suede sweetness and dons a diaphanous veil of exotic delicacies and resins with Belly Dance. This is a fragrance that is aptly named as body heat unleashes the slinky nature of this perfume, beckoning those around to come closer. Is that your skin that smells so good or is that just naturally you? Hmm? Oh, we shall never tell, haha. Belly Dance is one of those your skin but better with an extra seductive musky twirl that Nui Cobalt excels at. CanCan (A fun-loving potion to dispel anxiety and conjure a festive mood. Wild french frivolity with high kicks and black lace. Lavender lemon cupcakes and a touch of true cognac under ruffled red satin, sugared absinthe, and a wisp of fine tobacco in the footlights.) Sweet and a bit naughty as promised, CanCan hits the mark for a fun scent potion that offers a little of everything but is a must if you are seeking a summertime absinthe aroma that has a kick to it. The pastry batter of the lemon cupcake sprinkled with lavender buds opens the show then the green absinthe splashes out and the real affair begins. The tobacco is rolled into the herbal warmth of the absinthe and adds just a hint of fumes hanging in the air after the curtains close for the night and vanilla crumbles of cupcakes are left over after the party. Parisian Pink (My other favorite color. Peony petals, a suede settee, osmanthus, silk tree, spun sugar, Margaret Merill roses, pink grapefruit and antique sandalwood) Another beautiful Love and Ghost Cat sister scent with gentle florals, sugared sweetness and this round a splash of bright summertime fruit with grapefruit that stays true and doesn't turn into bubblegum. The sandalwood is one of the last notes to linger with an addictive creaminess and I keep checking the listing as I swear I smell a dab of vintage white amber. Everything about Parisian Pink is soft and elegant and apologetically feminine and I absolutely adore it. So excited to see it has joined the general catalogue; it's a sure crowd pleaser and deserves that special spot. Little White Rabbit (A chic, contemporary twist on our beloved Little Brown Rabbit. Nutmeg and tonka bean nuzzle up against cottonflower, white peppercorn, clove, vanilla marshmallow creme, pale blue cashmere, carrot seed and honeyed almond. Wear for cool confidence, grace and poise) Another highly anticipated vial that turned into disappointing expensive soap on me even with the marshmallow, pepper and vanilla. How odd. I'm beginning to wonder with my recent nearly 100 pound weight loss (it still doesn't seem real) if my chemistry has shifted and these types of blends I should avoid all together. Another vial for my whipped soaps and deep conditioning treatments. *Please remember skin chemistries differ and what one note or combination of noes may not work for me, they may be exactly what someone else is looking for. That's the beauty of perfume oils and the continued mystery that keeps drawing us back for more. Never be afraid to try a blend that interests you. Argentine Tango (In irresistibly sexy blend to raise and harness primal energy. Sleek scarlet musk, smoldering sandalwood and palo santo, crimson Malbec, molten caramel and dusky smooth tobacco lightly laced with black cherry.) Mmm, who knew black cherry could be so suggestive? This is boozy cherry lashed with caramel and the smouldering wood notes are in the background adding a touch of something extra and enticing. It brings to mind you went to meet your secret lover at midnight from Mystery of Maple Walk and then went twirling and dining in a candle-lit cave turned restaurant (was that an Addams Family Values reference? Why yes it was). That black cherry sets the mood for what is to come and the synchronized steps to follow. Definitely one of my favourites this turn. Eastern Chipmunk (A sweet scent for stability, comfort, and to attract earthly delights. Pecans and pistachios with Moroccan spiced coffee, black fig preserves, and roasted marshmallow. Wear when you need to gather resources and optimize your abundance.) The most sought-after Critter to date from this collection for myself and sadly my chemistry morphs everything into an overwhelming spiced root beer aroma that lasts a full day and half on me. Well, at least now I know. * Please remember skin chemistries differ and what one note or combination of notes may not work for me, they may be exactly what someone else is looking for. That's the beauty of perfume oils and the continued mystery that keeps drawing us back for more. Never be afraid to try a blend that interests you. Sugar Glider (A gentle blend to guide you toward good friends and kindred spirits. Raw cotton, sugar cane, flannel flower, macadamia nut, pearblossom, palest musk, and dandelion puff. Wear to attract compassionate people and nourish lasting connections) From my least favourite to a surprise treasured fragrance. Is Sugar Glider a floral-gourmand, a delicate fruit floral or a soft feminine summer powerpuff type of perfume that follows ever so gently in your wake? It's all these and allows your imagination to float and drift. The dusting of sugar and natural pearblossom and the slightest hint of macadamia create this comforting sweetness that is addictive and perfect for the professional setting or any stressful environment. Victorian Burlesque (Disguised as prim and proper, this bawdy seduction blend has a talent for titillation. Indigo musk, sparkling plum wine, night blooming jasmine, blackcurrant jam, green cardamom and cinnamon creme brulee) I'm really having some terrible luck with this round of vials as this one turns into grape bubblegum on me with indolic jasmine and little else. It's also too playful and young smelling for me somehow. I don't understand what is going on with this selection. *Please remember skin chemistries differ and what one note or combination of notes may not work for me, they may be exactly what someone else is looking for. That's the beauty of perfume oils and the continued mystery that keeps drawing us back for more. Never be afraid to try a blend that interests you. Banshee (In Celtic folklore this wailing woman of the Otherworld is a messenger of imminent death. Her cries echo the sacred tradition of Keening to mourn the passing of a loved one. Primrose over rain-soaked soil, emerald moss, ancient oakwood, mountain gorse and lamb's wood accord. Wear this phantasmic potion in times of grief that it may heal your heart and free you from sorrow). A beautifully described fragrance that unfortunately turns into burnt coconut and soap on me. I don't get any of the primrose or other listed atmospheric notes. *Please remember skin chemistries differ and what one note or combination of notes may not work for me, they may be exactly what someone else is looking for. That's the beauty of perfume oils and the continued mystery that keeps drawing us back for more. Never be afraid to try a blend that interests you. Rusalka (The vengeful Slavic river spirit who drowns any man who brings harm to a woman. The brisk scent of salty tears and ambergris accord, sacred benzoin, blue lotus, gently smoldering birchwood, and iced white tea. Wear this bracing aquatic scent to invoke the powers of Justice and Equity, keeping them close as protective guardians. A percentage of all profits for Rusalka will go to support Ukrainian people and families displaced by the current Russian invasion.) I'm not having very good luck with these gorgeously described and well-meaning fragrances with atmospheric elements because here's another that my skin chemistry morphed into an overwhelming soap scent. I do get the salt but the clean quality of Rusalka is too much for my nose. That's a shame. *Please remember skin chemistries differ and what one note or combination of notes may not work for me, they may be exactly what someone else is looking for. Pas De Deux (An ethereal blend to conjure a fairytale romance. Diaphanous white rose glistening with pale citrus, sheer musk, juicy d'Anjou pear and the effortless grace of tonka butter.) And now it's time to take a turn with another lovely satiny floral combination that has captured my full attention and sweeps me away with just a tiny dab. With a slightly boozy introduction, Pas De Deux reminds me of Under the Mistletoe from a few Yules ago and it's just as pretty and welcoming to the nose and romantic senses. Vienna Waltz (An impeccably elegant black-tie blend to attract wealth and luxury. Richly polished mahogany, pink peony, Peru balsam, diamond musk and a swish of silk shantung) A downy kiss of floral powder and a hidden vanilla/spun sugar medley takes me far away from my cares and I fall more in love with Vienna Waltz with every wave of the wrist and swing of my curls. Another keeper and recommendation and bottle to watch for its return next year as I've fallen quite hard for the beautiful gentle floral petal softness of Vienna Waltz and can't help but think of famous Winterhalter paintings and portraits. Top choices (in no particular order): Sugar Glider, Belly Dance, Vienna Waltz, Parisian Pink and Argentine Tango Nui Cobalt Designs Comments are closed.
