Short and sweet: Yes, it's a phone case I'm going to ramble a bit about as this custom case is everything I wanted and fits like a glove on my older phone (2016). The design I chose looks beautiful and the shop managed to perfectly balance the image with the placement of my phone's buttons (and I greatly appreciated the sneak peek of the final image before it shipped out; great customer service). I went for the silicone option after I read how others saw a better definition of their chosen photo with the silicone versus the hardback and I love how it turned out (the details look so ethereal) with the matte tactile element to the case (I can easily find it in my handbag and I have a better handling of my phone when I type- added little bonus for someone with RA). I FINALLY have a cover that is as unique as me! I know where to shop when I need a creative holiday gift or surrender my now "vintage" phone and get a newer model. Etsy really does have everything! ClearPhoneCase It's strange how certain things from childhood can reappear at the most interesting times when we need them the most and so it goes with this amulet. I was searching for a necklace to don at the Celtic Renaissance Festival this summer and saw this trinket and I immediately got a shiver as I recognized the intricate pattern as something unexplained I have been drawing and curiously doodling since I was a child; is it a sign or special personal sigil that will bring me luck in a new friendship, romance, passion, joy and that ever unobtainable and elusive element of trust? Time will tell, but all I know is this well-crafted and detailed amulet is home and has found a rightful place in my jewellery wardrobe as it layers beautifully with different pieces (or can be worn alone), draws the eye (and compliments) and the energy it gives off is serene and oddly familiar. In also finding this runic treasure I stumbled across another nifty little shop that offers esoteric wonders and I have added several items to my basket since purchasing this pendant and highly recommend WrenStones if you are looking for something unique and perhaps a little magical to add to your everyday. WrenStones *If you do not have any interest in mentions of Astrology (I respect that), please feel free to scroll past down to the reviews on pretty things I purchased. If you are wondering what a Profection Year is and how it affected me, read on. So for those curious, your 1st House Profection Year has to do with Astrology, your birth chart and the beginning of your Rising Sign month. Every 12 years you go through a special transformation that lands in your 1st house which correspond with your personal style, identity "what defines you" and how you are ultimately perceived by the otherside world basically- it's a chance to experience a true and liberating Phoenix moment (this could be voluntary or just "happen") in the mirror and your mind. Mine began last fall and it's been a wonderful and exhilarating whirlwind of emotions, reflection and knowledge AND style/wardrobe changes since then. I finally feel like "me"! These are my latest finds that define the real me that I have been hiding and denying for so long. First up is the Astral Aura Handbag from KILLSTAR *Now I don't know if KILLSTAR is considered indie so I won't focus this review entirely on this bag but it's the most gorgeous and defining side accessory I have ever owned and it is Quality AND Quantity when it comes to this bag. It's currently sold out but believe me, if you get the chance grab it and step out in true unique style and feel like you own the show. It's like armour that's the only way I can describe it.
I had to find a pocketbook to match such a striking arm adornment and I found just that on ETSY at Zekcreations. This mini wallet is exceptional (I do think I will go for the larger size next time as my astral purse swallows this lovely small reticule and as much as I love the darling hand fit of this small pocketbook, I can't help but covet now the beast size). I adore the tactile element of this item and the colour and design scream my taste. When I look at this bifold I see a divine mixture of gothic and art deco (anyone else see peacock feather details in the swirls?). I'll be visiting this shopfront again this year never fear. Last note is on their customer service which was prompt and courteous- they custom fit a moon charm at my request for the inside zipper. I love indie sellers. Zekcreations Is there such a style called "Esoteric Grace", "Arcane Elegance" or how about "Gibson Lady Goth"? Well if there isn't I'm only too happy to dub it so as I have found such a connection with marrying certain eras of bygone elegance, meaning and powerful lasting energies together and surrounding myself with trinkets and wardrobe/makeup choices with these elements in mind. Hence another late night important search and discovery that landed me this time at the doorway of Terra Stones Astoria and in the end adding a little more to my authentic self. Here's what I found: Detailed Swan Sterling Silver Earrings Absolute stunners of a special personal affinity (Yes, little dark hearted/8th house-ruled, poison and dark history obsessed me has a soft spot for swans...judge me as you will, haha). A long search is finally over! These trinkets are esoteric grace at its finest (perfectly sized for the work setting; just like everything extraordinary and worth exploring in this world, you can't see the untold beauty until you get close then you want to learn and examine more). Perfect starter pieces from this lovely shop, I look forward to returning to add to my jewellery casket and more to my personal style. Detailed Ouroboros Snakes with Mother of Pearl Sterling Silver Earrings These gorgeous ouroboros ear drops represent so much to me and I'm over the moon a long search is over and the style (they are the perfect melding look of art nouveau and arcane), detail and quality are just the icing on everything. They just glow in the light, become the profile and the energy these dainty though powerful trinkets give off is inspiring and timeless. I simply adore them. Terra Stones Astoria 1772 Cold Cream Orange Flower Toilet De Flora Body Cream/Makeup Remover A life-long repurchase reunited once more upon my vanity table. I can't recommend this cold cream enough, it's the best I have found from anywhere, takes on the most stubborn eye makeup (even waterproof just melts gently with this formula), never breaks me out and smells heavenly with a soft orange flower/almost less sweet dreamsicle quality scent. One jar lasts me about 6 to 8 months. This is my choice pick on my vanity table and my favourite part of my morning (after work shift) routine. 1901 Rose Cold Cream- Victorian Recipe/Bulgarian Rose Essential Oil Full honesty- I tried this rose cream once as a traditional cold cream/makeup remover and didn't see the results I always notice with my 1772 Orange Flower jar and promptly switched back, however, I found this thick cream worked wonders on my under eyes, on my cheeks for rough and dry spots and that sublime real rose scent now slathers my elbows and back of my arms before I go to bed. It may have not exactly worked out the way I intended with removing all of my stubborn eye makeup in one easy swoop like the 1772 jar but it still has found a place upon my vanity table and recommendation list. 1918 Violet Massage Cream For The Neck & Shoulders Aphrodisiac/ Makeup Remover Violet Cream This was an impulse purchase that has held several benefits in store but above all it has tremendously helped with my RA hip pain that always springs up with the rising humidity and storms sweeping through this time of the year and tackled my knee and muscle tight/sore spots after intense workouts. That right there says it all. A little dab goes a long way as it's more of a slick textured formula and spreads easily. In terms of scent, if you adore the fragrance of Sixteen92's Hydromancy- meet a cream you can slather to your heart's content with an oddly similar aroma (yes, it can be overpowering on me as I amp this particular floral and I can clearly smell the medicinal almost metal violets when I wake up after rubbing this cream into my skin before falling asleep but it helps my annoying aches and it still falls as a 100% recommendation.) LittleBits/LBCC Historical Apothecary 3 distinct shades and 3 definitive personalities based on 3 fascinating historic women and moods captured in stunning shades of deep roan and pink-blue reds. Absolutely what I have been looking for and I love the vintage packaging ElizaCosmetics presents her recreations in. The formulas are gentle on the lips, deep toned and smell (and taste) wonderful with a smack of cocoa. I can't stop vamping in the mirror and topping it off with a "Boop-boop-a-doop!", haha. Theda- The darkest lady of the trio. This shade was originally a Halloween costume custom purchase last October for my Vampire Flapper idea (RIP that lost night) but one coat and I was completely under her spell, felt transformed and that somber lipstick shade immediately found her way into my makeup casket. It is a true gothic hue of brown-red resembling dried blood and dying roses; perfect recreation of the shades vamps and smokey-eyed silent sirens on the silver screen wore in the earliest days of Old Hollywood. *Inspired by the original Vamp Theda Bara Initially I purchased the nail polish of Theda then had to get the lipstick to match. The formula of the nail polish is impressive lasting several days without chipping and minimal streaking for a deep red-brown colour. Full coverage in about 2 coats but for a richer depth I went for 3 coats. Others commented my fingernails looked like I had dried blood at the tips- perfect! Louise- Slightly more of a lighter hue with say more garnet than maroon in Theda, still dark and mysterious and to be honest the lipstick I grabbed more often through autumn and winter (and even into spring until I was introduced to Marilyn). I never wore such daring shades before trying samples from this little nifty shop and I'm so happy I stepped out of my comfort zone. Being well lily complected to put it nicely (better than saying ghostly pale, haha) I somehow always believed I couldn't wear red lipstick without looking ridiculous or harsh, little did I know it's only the right cast of red that makes the lady. *Inspired by the enigmatic Louise Brooks Marilyn- The newest gal to join my vanity table and one more reason I'm loving to vamp in front of the looking glass these days. This one is a deeper rose pink lipstick that is my personal spring/summer shade (there is a reason this colour is a top-seller). You can never go wrong with anything pink-red I'm finding out this year (wait until I ramble about Progeny from Pariah House Cosmetics coming up; pink is nothing to fear!) *Inspired by the Blonde Bombshell Marilyn Monroe Salome Hair Pomade (scent of Bergamot, Lemon, Orris, Rose, Lavender, Jasmine. creamy Vanilla, Sweet Tonka, Civet, Toffee notes of Opoponax absolute.) In my most recent order I was surprised with a sample of the hair pomade version of Salome and a few twists of strands and pins released later and my softly defined curls waft this powdery musky allure around me that harkens back to the ultimate heyday of glitz and glamour. On me, more creamy lavender is noticed with an underpinning of musky non-gourmand vanilla. Just hypnotic, refined and I love how this formula plays so well with my fine hair that tends to frizz and expand this time of the year. Very impressed. *Inspired by Rita Hayworth Needless to say with all these marvellous self-care, makeup choices I've discovered for myself since January from across the indie realm, I'm ready for what (and whom) may come my way this 2022-2023 Venus Return. An assortment of lovely scents and history, what's more, to obsess over and ramble about? How about fantastic customer service practices and overall presentation (thank you so much for the extras!). I fell hard for quite a few of these little candles by the cold throws alone (Boleyn, Bog Bodies, Shelley, Black Phillip, Table-Tipping, Bring Out Your Dead and Cher Ami topping the lists with realistic florals and fruits, spices or honey) and am finding myself further entranced and saying "Mmmphf" with every flick of the flame. These votive candles are impressive giving off a 2-4 foot throw and complex clever aromas inspired by different events and themes of bygone eras and classics off the shelves. Looking forward to trying the beast sizes, now to narrow my basket down. This won't be the last you have read about Pestilence Pours, that's a promise. Table-Tipping (Honey, Amber, Coriander, Tonka, Tobacco Leaves, Oud and Musk) Smells like an evening filled with necromancy games and levity. The realistic crystallized honey is the conduit of this blend with cherry tobacco adding a fitting fruit laced aspect to the honey while the coriander lends a "dust" illusion to the midground and the oud is laying underneath lifting this fragrance and bringing the final unexpected bang of something to grab your attention. This is a gathering of the elite in a scene and in note selection. Very impressive! For a votive-sized candle, Table-Tipping still gives a 2 to 3-foot scent throw and melts evenly with the strength gaining with every flick of the flame. Bring Out Your Dead (Pumpkin, French Vanilla Cream and Pie Spices) The little candle carries my top two guilty pleasures in life- sweet treats and dark humour; how could I resist trying this combination? All the promised notes are there in a delicious creamy and lightly spiced throw that reaches 4 feet and into the basket Bring Out Your Dead goes. "I feel happy, I feel happy!". Vive la Reine (Chrysanthemums, Green florals and botanicals, Watery Aloe and Sweet Agave) A trill of happy laughter, a delicate hand absently reaches out and creates dancing ripples in the bright sunlight, a blush creeps across a perfumed cheek while a secret letter sits on a draped lap and this idyllic scene is captured in contrasting pastels with strikes of the queen's favourite powdery shade in a portrait that will no doubt hang in her beloved Petit Trianon's halls when she hides away from rigid decorum and hissed whispers behind fluttering fans. It's a scent that makes you wish history would have played out differently and if happiness and touches of romance would have only followed instead such a tragic misunderstood figure. The inclusion of agave in this candle inspired by Marie Antoinette adds a unique sweet fruity extravagance while the soft watery florals on top create visions of a poetic haven away from this world, and I don't know about you, but I always want my boudoir to smell like that. A beautiful creative tribute fragrance. Bog Bodies (Tangy Cranberries, Cinnamon, Sweet Apple and Spicy Clove) Sharp and warm with no sacrifice on the promised cranberries! The clove adds a smoky nearly meditative element whilst the fruit notes of freshly peeled apple sprinkled with cinnamon and cranberry all lends Bog Bodies the perfect impression of something wicked (though celebratory) happening at fall-tide. For throw, this votive covers my whole kitchen with a welcoming tart and spiced aroma that holds a sinister undernote and I'm in love. Is it strange I look forward to unsuspecting guests complimenting Bog Bodies and then launching into a dark history lesson that makes them look toward the exit? Haha, I didn't think so either. Penny University (Fresh Brewed Coffee, Rum, Cocoa Beans) Admittedly this is not my favourite out of the parcel and with its cold throw introduction as the coffee can give off a well skunky though earthy scent (am I the only one who smells skunk when it comes to brewed black coffee?). Thankfully that skunky odor is all about absent after a few moments as the wax heats up and releases a more relaxing fragrance of boozy cocoa and a bitter coffee undernote. It definitely perks up my senses but again not a favourite overall. Boleyn (Rose, Musk and Sandalwood) We've explored my least favourite out of these (lucky) thirteen and now we have arrived at my choice pick out of them all. May I introduce those who adore the rich and heady aroma of fresh roses with a distinct underpinning of escapism to Boleyn! This is how I imagine the royal chambers of a queen that defined an era cast in candlelit shadows to smell of, regal and ostentatious but has a hidden primal and always musing energy underneath beckoning her king to visit her behind heavy velvet drapes. This is a stately and amorous rose fragrance and I adore how Boleyn covers my whole kitchen in such an intoxicating way and allows departures from my mundane thoughts whenever I light this inspired votive. It has the largest throw of them all and will be one of my first beast-sized candle purchases this year (maybe for my birthday). Highly recommend. Cher Ami (French Lavender, Chamomile, White Tea, Apple Blossom and Dew) Soft and relaxing like the morning cooing of a dove or a pigeon more alike as this fragrance was inspired by the courageous homing pigeon of the same name that saved 194 Allied soldiers during WWI. This inspired gentle scent is bucolic with notes of a spring morning as you could imagine the guns falling silent across the french countryside. Very lovely and a beautiful welcoming aroma to company as they find their way to your door. Burke & Hare (Wet Grass, a patch of green clover and a little bit of fresh dirt) As it says on the tin with a realistic muddy aroma of clumps of clover and cemetery dirt. Thank goodness Pestilence Pours didn't go another route and recreate a cadaver or anatomy theatre fug with a whiskey barrel or tea chest for the ol' true crimes by Burke & Hare, haha now that would have been something and as much as I adore dark history I don't think I want the distinct stank of formaldehyde, benzene and spirits wafting about my home. I can easily appreciate and applaud the scented storyline and inspiration of the moved cemetery earth just fine and I think others would agree. Danse Macabre (Bonfire, Sweet Amber and Caramelized Marshmallows) This interpretation of allegorical art celebrating universal mortality is oddly comforting and delicious with a warm vintage vein running underneath the smokey sweetness. Perhaps this is a curious and clever capturing of the saying "sweet release of death". I do so love and greatly appreciate this little shop's morbid sense of humour. Fellow dark hearts rejoice, go ahead and giggle and light up Danse Macabre; I think you will be happy. Shelley (Plum, Citrus, Amber and Light and Dark Musks) Of course, the authoress who sparked a new genre of literature that still inspires and terrifies readers would receive a fascinating scent tribute from Pestilence Pours which is dark but has a bolt of romantic current laying in wait. Very fitting and I wouldn't expect anything less. I swear I smell hidden pine intertwined in the wisps of smoke escaping from Shelley no doubt harkening back to the trees around Villa Diodati. It curiously brings to mind heavy velvet drapes and dreary nights by a fire; perfect to tell ghost stories by. Another selection for my basket when the time comes. Black Philip (Black Currants, Jasmine, Rich Black Tea and a touch of Smoke) This is an intriguing layered fragrance of sweetness, smoke and a touch of tannic floral. Definitely one of the most intriguing Halloween themed candles I have tried. I wonder if there is a wisp of musk underneath the top notes as there is something a bit dare I say bewitching about Black Philip that catches your full attention. Another fitting series of curious notes that beckons you closer with every dance of the little flame. Madame Deficit (Vanilla Cake, Coconut and White Musk) Mmm smells like a perfume I would gladly don with an even balance of gourmand and sophistication. A non-overwhelming blend of creamy sweetness and powdery musk. As complex as the scandals, historic opinions and legends surrounding Marie Antoinette. Reading the description of Madame Deficit the notes oddly work as this figure was harassed with slander (one of the false tales of lavish dinners and carefree comments such as the "let them eat cake") which only led to a tragic disconnect from the public and the destruction of a dynasty. Spring Heel'd Jack (Caramel Dipped Apples) And we have arrived at lucky number 13 and a bonus candle I found tucked into my parcel (thank you so much, Pestilence Pours) and is no doubt a sweet playful tribute to the tradition of telling ghost and supernormal stories during parties in the Victorian era well into the Edwardian period on All Hallow's Eve. I can easily imagine the giggles and feigned gasps as well dressed ladies and their dapper beaus cuddle close and play little games and indulge in autumnal treats (such as caramel-dipped apples with a sprinkling of warm cinnamon) as the tale of Spring Heel'd Jack is whispered whilst the candles around them gutter with the October cold winds finding their ways down the chimneys and betwixt cracks in the windows. It's a simple blend but still manages to capture the imagination. Very nice! Pestilence Pours *Reviews composed in 2021 Recently I was surprised by a teaser message and arrival of a small parcel at my door from an Indie Artist I know (thank you so much, Pixxi!) and I'm over the moon with my custom wearable art inspired by nature and history! May I introduce everyone to Sticks N Stone Bones. Where to start with this nifty little shop? They offer unique handmade items for the body and home that utilize the properties of wood to preserve fragrance which has been a practice for centuries and this is still effective as it was then as the scent they chose has lasted weeks now and I just ordered a pumpkin carving diffuser for my car (the designs are drawn then burnt into the wood piece and they come unscented so you choose the fragrance of your choice from your collection). Longevity is indeed impressive and you know I'm in love with the idea of waltzing about with a historic notion at my throat but how is the throw of the necklace? Again nature, science and history all triumph and create something magical as I have noticed a 4 to 6-foot throw alone and this has increased with simple body heat; the coin-sized piece of redwood acts as a fragrant beacon. I can't wait to sit down and decide which perfume will grace my car diffuser. My nifty little diffuser arrived all decked out in a themed parcel that even finished out with a free gift that gives back to mother nature and delights those of us that adore wildflowers! The diffuser itself is exceptionally made (no filmy plastic here, it's reinforced metal clips on the back), the design is stunning and my autumn roadtrips were complete with the delicious and inspiring aroma of all the pumpkins, spice and everything nice wafting around my car as I belted out all the seasonal songs and probably gave a show to those stopped at red lights, haha! In winter I went with peppermint and mint and the pumpkin still was detectable which was perfect for me (so these diffusers last months). For spring I think I'm going to go a more rosewater route as I found out recently that rosewater and a hint of spice makes magic for the senses. Highly recommend! SticksNStoneBones FEATURED: ETSY Treasures (A very special birthday to remember all thanks to Cyan Owl/Part I)4/1/2022
I for one think it's perfectly acceptable to treat oneself to a special birthday gift (or 3, haha) to and from yourself and those few that know me shouldn't be surprised I went searching for a specific themed trinket for my birthday in 2021 all styled after the Persephone myth (a complex story I've always had this unexplained pull towards) and this little moon child and dark heart found exactly what she has always been dying to find for years at CyanOwl. It really was divine timing as I had been working so hard to alter myself since 2020 for a healthier body and mindset and this necklace embodies that for me. My Persephone Moon came beautifully wrapped- presented on a bed of velvet (in lightning quick time) and unexpectedly tells a story that is uniquely me (right down to the surprise curve in the pomegranate leaves looking as a storm is gusting). The craftsmanship is phenomenal and this is the type of signature jewellery piece that you wear with everything and you can treasure for years to come (thank you again, Cyan Owl for putting up with all my questions and little quirky requests for this order). What a perfect birthday and transformation gift for myself. Cyan Owl If I were to be giving out awards for the most impressively presented parcel I have received to date, DarkMatterTrinkets would be in the top running as their vintage themed ephemera stole the day and my heart when I opened my boxes containing a trio of lovely darkness that fit my every mood and wardrobe choice. This shop knows how to impress and create a dazzling display. Here's a closer look at my 3 necklaces and one surprise earring set that harkens back to a fascinating and terrifying fashion trend. Mina, eat your heart out. This creation is the one that first caught my eye and initiated the lust for all the sparkly necklaces from this awesome little shop (and idea for a custom future piece; stellar customer service I must mention as well). This necklace is so aptly named as the faceted stones are the shades of drops of blood and the main jewel glows with intensity in the light; out of the 3 I purchased the red stones are the heaviest feeling in the hand but you'll forget you are wearing them when you don them and transform in mood and character. Just as all the other creations they frame the neck very becomingly. Needless to say, I shall return for more! Over the moon and to the stars about this enchanting little shop and my new jewellery pieces! Each one beautifully frames the neck whilst telling a different story and transports me to a treasured era or film genre. The onyx stone piece is the middle weight-wise of the 3 necklaces and has me feeling like I'm starring in a Film Noir feature, just as the rest of my purchases the necklace came lightning fast and was gorgeously presented with little themed extras and hand-painted trinkets. What a find. The pearl necklace is the lightest out of all 3, but still stuns and garners attention. For me, this is the ultimate late Victorian to Edwardian lady's choice from her jewellery casket, it goes with so many various stones and clothing options. It also takes a lovely photo. These "Guillotine Chic" ear drops very closely resemble commemorative jewellery worn in the 18th century during the French Revolution. I love how these earrings out of all my recent jewellery purchases garnered the most compliments and chances to unleash my knowledge of morbid history upon the curious public. You can't go wrong with prettly tinkling trinkets of death, haha. DarkMatterTrinkets It's funny where late night jewellery cravings will lead you and for my next quest I wanted a statement earring set with a distinct vintage flair and I certainly got just that in lightning quick time. These dramatic earrings are stunning, they draw the eye and flatter the neck and asymmetrical face. The backs are cut-out so the only weight is felt toward the detailed lily motif and even that slight pull is easily forgotten as these drops are very comfortable and I love how the winds sing through these earrings when gusts hit them just right. These were my first taste of stepping into my own in 2021 and realizing some new things about myself and my "perfect year/transformation" that was heralded in my birth chart (it has been a wild ride since last summer and my appearance and overall aesthetic has drastically changed) and I couldn't be more pleased with this whole order and experience (NomadicMoonArts' customer service is exceptional as well, don't be afraid to message them with any questions) from this enchanting little shop and I'll definitely be back for more unique designs! Judge me as you will but for some reason this dark little heart was drawn to shades of blush-pink and peach last spring and summer and I was on the hunt for baubles from another era (to be more specific camphor glass jewellery) for an upcoming wedding (sigh, yes I came out of the shadows and attended a wedding; I know right? *hiss* haha). One late night search and I found myself at the door of BoxerLovingLady/SweetVirgil'sVintage (same shop owner) and coveting these etched glass earrings dating back to the 1920s. These were my impressions of this little colourful detour of style. My gorgeous antique earrings arrived ahead of time for the event which was a spot of luck because after promptly opening the parcel an earring fell to the floor and cracked (YES, they are real glass and extremely fragile in that way). I messaged the owner in the hopes I could purchase a new earring in time for the wedding the following week and I was elated that she offered to replace it for free so stellar customer service. When it comes to the design, these blush-pink earrings catch the sun, dance along the neckline and I received several compliments on them that afternoon and since then. They have become a go-to pair of delicate jewellery when I want to step out with just a touch more vintage flair and yes, they go with everything even my tried and true black and dark purple and greens that dominates my wardrobe. They look right at home on my vanity table and I'm officially a collector of camphor glass trinkets now. I would say this detour was amusing and I'm quite content at the end of the night. Highly recommend a look. BoxerLovingLady and SweetVirgil'sVintage There are 2 shops to explore both owned by the same amazing jewellery artist. BijouxPassionParis & PearlManiac Call it a morbid fixation or need to echo the past in some unique way but I went on a determined hunt last year to find replicas of certain jewellery pieces I associate with my favourite misunderstood figures to study from history and that odd venture landed me at the art nouveau and art deco decorated door of BijouxPassionParis on ETSY (they shortly after showing a sneak peek of this specific design opened a second storefront called PearlManiac which I was directed to for ordering). Needless to say I'm over the moon with this little shop's customer service, TAT (they shipped across the way from France) and quality. The owner was very sweet and patient with my MANY enthusiastic questions, the parcel arrived ahead of time and my earrings are everything I have been dreaming of seeing on my vanity table and wearing. The pearls are perfectly sized and even though button shaped they are matched nicely with no cracks or flaws, the design is extremely comfortable to wear (I even forget I have them on at different times of the night and I love the secure backings, dare I say I prefer this flat design versus a simple dangle which the Empress wore) and best of all, these pearl earrings set off any outfit I don with the right amount of little sparkle and glitz from a beloved era of read about. I don't want to take these baubles off and I eagerly add more styles to my basket from both shops with every passing day to join these lovely earrings in my jewellery casket. What do you think? I personally think I couldn't get any closer to the actual design or find a more perfect fit for myself, they are perfect! *Reviews composed in February 2021 I guess the stars decided to shine a little luck my way at the end of November and December 2020 as I won a few giveaways on social media. These were the first two (thank you so much, UrbanWitchcraftCo and Pylies!) Sterling silver and rainbow moonstone planchette necklace from UrbanWitchcraftCo All thanks to an adorable feathered shop assistant named Lily who picked my winning ticket entry name out of a bowl I was sent a stunning necklace with a moonstone that has one of the most brilliant flashes I have ever seen in a rainbow moonstone (this jewellery artist has some of the most unique crystal/gemstone specimens displayed). I have been watching this curious little shop with much interest for months and this lovely necklace decided a custom in the future for flashing and glowing moonstone earrings to match in the near future. Finally, it was "Muppets Christmas Carol" for the win! I love super easy giveaway requirements and all I had to do was submit in my favourite holiday movie I watch every year. From Pylies: 3 lip scrubs in- Gingersnap Cookies (Chewy cookie with ginger, cardamom, chinese cinnamon and caraway) Peppermint Hot Cocoa (Piping hot drinking chocolate and a splash of smooth creamy peppermint) Christmas Crack (Saltine cracker, crunchy buttery toffee, a dash of holiday spice and thin layer of dark chocolate) I have a horrible habit from childhood of biting my lips when I'm nervous or when I'm not even realizing it anymore and these scrubs have been receiving a full workout so I can attest these all smell (and taste delicious) and have been a tremendous help with my peeling-winter-and-when-I-gnaw damaged lips. For those not familiar with lip scrubs they are flavoured granulated sugar with additional healing oils (nuts or fruits) added and you place a fingertip size of scrub on your damp lips and you rub gently in a circular motion to exfoliate and remove dead skin. It does take a bit of practice to get the motion down as it can be messy at first so start over the sink. I follow up the scrubs with more indies to seal in the softness, smoothness and moisture (I highly recommend Spirit & Venom Olfactory Arts' lip balm). All of the presented scrubs are as they say on the tin, it's hard to pick a favourite as I get a sense of delightful nostalgia with Peppermint Hot Cocoa (it reminds me of the glory days of Bath&Body Works and a long discontinued holiday lip stick/balm I adored so much and received many years in my stocking until it disappeared off the shelves one winter without any warning), Gingersnap Cookies is an addictive ginger cookie that brings to mind a recipe my English grandmother used to bake for family gatherings. So that leaves Christmas Crack and we have a buttery salty and chocolate with the barest hint of spice laced winner with this one as it tastes very much like a concoction I whip up for myself when I have a serious craving for salty chocolate and I shove a handful (or four) of semi-sweet chocolate chips and crushed oyster crackers into my gob at the same time and let the distinct notes meld together. Yes, I need to stop that, hopefully rubbing a little of this delectable lip scrub on my bitten lips will sate that craving instead. In addition to the little pots of lip scrubs, I was sent a few more treats! A Body Cream and Body Scrub. Candied Yams Body Cream (I couldn't find the exact notes but I do wonder if "Southern Haunt" wasn't renamed) This is a thick cream that melts nicely and releases a fragrance of heavenly spiced sweet potatoes, marshmallow, butter and even a hint of sweet hidden apple. I have been using this on my elbows and sensitive winter-chapped hands (concentrating on my cuticles) and it's a welcome home ritual now before I get ready for bed after a long night. I go to sleep with wafts of spiced yams and fluffy marshmallow and wake up 9 hours later with the faintest hint of warm spice so the scent lasts quite a while and I noticed the warmer you can get your skin after applying the better the results, so this is the type of formula that would work wonders with that the old "slathering your hands in cream and covering with a pair of thick cotton socks before bed trick". I'll report back on the next Self-Care Day. Witchy Woman Body Scrub (Soft Incense, Oud, Woodsmoke and Patchouli mixed with Clove, Cinnamon and Jasmine) Smokey, spicy and sweet floral decadence take me away! Witchy Woman is an interesting combination of notes and the scent continues on long after leaving the tub. The scrub formula is a powerhouse for my rough heels and even works on my elbows in those weird leftover spots that I can never get completely smooth especially in the colder months. The consistency has larger granulated sugar crystals for extra scrubbing which is a change-up from the other body scrubs I own. This formula was made for the long winter months and has been put through its paces already. Overall, this is another little wonderful surprising shop I will be exploring more from. UrbanWitchcraftCo and Pylies Reviews composed in November 2020 to January 2021 ✴The longer the following perfumes were patiently aged, the more undernote nuances reveal themselves with every wear. Longevity: Shortest (XIII and Bad Apple at 2 and nearly 4 hours) Longest (Ambrille and Sacred Vanille at 14+ hours) One Note At A Time: Bespoke/Custom Fragrance At the beginning of October 2020 I submitted the idea of a bottled quote from one of my favourite books with the specific notes of French Vanilla, Vintage-styled Amber and Marshmallow. The owner showed sincere enthusiasm over my custom's concept and shared his extensive knowledge of different subjects when he suggested additions to my blend with Labdanum and White Musk. He then even went up and above that and obtained a very special component (pheromones) for the perfect final touch when I requested this last minute submission. May I present Ambrille! She's finally home and is so good she made it into general catalogue. From start to finish this was an experience I highly recommend if you have been searching in vain for a specific blend to add to your collection or one special fragrance to drape yourself in. Ambrille (Notes: French Vanilla, Marshmallow, Labdanum, White Musk) This blend dances a fine line between gourmand and naughty vintage with the initial opening of creamy french vanilla along with sweet marshmallow then warms up with the vintage amber and slight caramelly "pop" of labdanum resin. The final notes that leave me 15 hours later are intoxicating white musk and the lingering sweetness of the vanilla and marshmallow. It matches the iconic quote from Rebecca: "I wish I were a woman of 36, dressed in black satin with a string of pearls." and can be worn like a comforting elegant scarf or expensive soft sweater throughout the colder months; which is all exactly what I wanted. ❇the version of Ambrille available on the site does not contain any frisky pheromones. Hand Sanitizer in Harvest Spice (Simmered autumn fruit blends with warm nutmeg and clove spiked with crisp afterthoughts of ginger and cinnamon in the familiar taste of fall) This lux hand sanitizer comes in a rather large 2oz bottle that has stood up well in my handbag and has not broken open accidentally in the months it has been knocking around and accompanying to and from normal every day. The formula contains the required 70% alcohol and it does the job with a vegetal scent with rich autumnal earth and warm comforting spice along with a kiss of fruit (other than pumpkin) that lasts up to 3 hours and is addictive to sneak huffs of when no one is looking. Harvest Spice isn't your average pumpkin aroma and I hope it returns in the the perfume version because it is a fragrance I need to own. I would purchase this lux hand sanitizer again but also would love this in Marshmallow. ✴When I received my finished Custom Fragrance in November all decked out in gift box, a surprise sample was found nestled in the box and I fell hard. Call Girl (Notes: Tobacco, Skin Musk, Roses) Roses can come in many forms from soapy to downright slinky and scandalous and if you are looking for the latter, you have to get ahold of Call Girl because this is an oh so naughty but refined tobacco and rose fragrance. I definitely smell Bulgarian Roses and there is something deeper underneath adding another layer of the rose variety and true to the description on the website I am getting the unmistakable smudge of expensive lipstick or creamy wax violets (however you wish to interpret them). I know this is supposed to tell the scent story of a night encounter in a seedy motel but I can't help but think of a classy well sought after mistress in the 19th-century Austrian or Russian court. It's a bit exotic in ways with the rose petals and the stately tobacco combined with the kiss of violet and silky skin musk elevates this call girl to dame d'honneur! Bravo Redwood! My second order was a bunch of samples that had intrigued me for weeks. Sacred Vanille (Notes: Vanilla, Wood, Copal, Gardenia, Amber, Musk & Spice) It remains a mystery if the copal or the noticeable textural wood note (or the combination) is a particular scent sticking out from my skin that I'm unsure about. The spice and amber is warm and seductive with the sweet butteriness of the gardenia and vanilla. My skin can be so cruel at times as that particular scent I mentioned amplifies and drowns out the lovely gardenia, vanilla and spice. I'm marking Sacred Vanille down for a whipped soap treatment in the coming weeks. Candy Cane layering note This hits the sweet and sentimental spot for me as a beloved family member always smelled of peppermint and when she was away and I was upset, I would sit in a corner and sniff the candies she had secretly stuffed my pockets with. This is refreshing and yet somehow creamy and soft. Candy Cane also has a positive effect on when my stomach is flipping knots at a certain time of the month as after sitting down and smelling Candy Cane for several minutes, I feel so much better. The power of comforting peppermint, it still works even all these years later for me. Krampus (Notes: Mint, Musk, Smoke, Clove & Pepper) All the notes are there in a musky oily and somehow bracing way. I get the peppermint with the dark elements underneath and I know it's not listed but I smell a hint of non-obnoxious black shiny leather hiding in the background with the clove. Krampus is unique with the spice and musk yet completely wearable for every day adding something unfamiliar and sinister. A definite keeper. Elysia (Notes: Notes: Lily of the Valley, Salt, Wood, Musk) This is such a lovely scent for work as it's ethereal and feminine with a twist of poetic floral sweetness and is one of those your skin but better types of perfumes to recommend. This fragrance brings to mind the imagined scent of the dust from trembling butterfly wings. I don't think I have any other lily of the valley perfume that is so soft yet enchanting in my collection. XIII (Description: An unlucky blend of bergamot, tangerine, and lemon. Creaking wood, thunder that rattles the bones. Dark, moonlit waters. All laced with a sweet sliver of hope.) On my skin a hidden sugary aquatic scent amps along with zippy citrus and hidden metal note combination that oddly helps me drift off to sleep after a long dark night. To my nose, XIII leans masculine in a debonair way that is magnetic and yet calming. For longevity, this blends fades within 2 hours and no trace remains when I wake 9 hours later. And I'll just be tucking this alluring oil away for "someday". Bad Apple (Notes: Apple, Musk, Leather) I've been watching way too many Disney, Fairytale, Zodiac/dark sides of signs comparisons because this brings to mind "BAD Snow White". It starts off so innocent at first with gentle wafts of wet realistic apple skin and sweetness of a hidden floral, then a sinister smirk, a violent shuddering thunder and lightning crash over the forest and this woman doesn't need a prince with a flousy name to save her. I love these dramatic types of fragrance transformations. I was a little concerned about the apple but this is a fine blend and takes my imagination away. My only caveat is, I wish Bad Apple lasted longer on me- barely 4 hours on my skin. Top 3 choices (besides Ambrille): Call Girl, Elysia and Candy Cane Redwood Alchemy Someone very wise once told me that a specific crystal will find its way into your life at the right time to serve you and in the chaotic year of 2020, Labradorite and Moonstones found me. It all began with a long past midnight browsing on ETSY and a simple search for crystal necklaces, in honesty, I didn't know what I was looking for I just wanted to see something shiny I suppose and learn some new facts about crystals and minerals to store away (I blame my Libra and Gemini placements, haha). Everything stopped when I saw the photo of a pale green gold crystal dubbed "The Seeker" on Rissa Rae Moonstone's page. I didn't know labradorite could be found in that specific unique shade and the more I stared at the page, I more I felt drawn to it. I had to go back from break but the glow of that curious stone stayed in my mind and by the time I was leaving my shift for the night, I knew I had to have it. Ordering was a simple process and the exact listed labradorite necklace arrived at my door not even a week later along with a small additional crystal. To say, I was happy with my purchase is an understatement as I wear my first labradorite piece from this shop everywhere and enjoy showing everyone my newest discovery (and obsession). Here was my first impression and initial wearing experience: "Over the moon with my necklace! It's absolutely stunning to look at and is the perfect size while at the same time adds something unique to my wardrobe. I've received several compliments at work about it including the shade of this glowing stone matches my eye colour or makes my green eyes pop. I also adore the gentle soothing energy this crystal exudes as I feel so relaxed and somehow charged ready to take on anything while wearing this jewellery piece and I don't want to take it off. I must also jot down for positives the lovely packaging presentation and amazing customer service. This was my first purchase but certainly not my last from this charming little shop." 2020 started my own transformation for my body, health and mind and I felt myself reaching out to touch this talisman when I had self doubt, I know that may sound silly but it somehow helped me to restrain my old habits and hold my head up a little higher. The stone's soft energy or not, I ended up experiencing things I never would have thought I would attempt before and that only allowed me to come out of my shell a little bit more. I had a wonderful time in October and created some amazing memories for myself and guess what was around my neck in candid pictures that others so easily take everyday, but I strangely never would have allowed to be taken (I forgotten how much I have the same smile as a beloved lost loved one)? If anything this labradorite piece reminds me of those happy times in a year of uncertainty and to not take the little things in life for granted ever again. November blew in and I knew it was time to ask if the shop owner could create a custom necklace I have been dreaming of owning for years (I have been hoping to come across just the right jewellery crafter), a double strand moonstone necklace... I only just commissioned this particular jewellery piece when a stunning rare purple labradorite amulet additionally caught my attention from the day before on social media made by this stone caster and it wouldn't allow me to focus on anything else, the stone was just gorgeous but I figured it was gone. Out of curiosity I messaged and asked if it was still available and to my utter delight it was and it was waiting for me it seemed! The owner was such a sweetheart that she offered to bundle the necklaces together and send them at the same time. I think I chose wisely don't you? "Signed, sealed, delivered and I couldn't be more pleased with these pieces of wearable art or this little shop! When it comes to my custom pieces, the moonstones just twinkle and glitter on my neck in the light and no photo can capture that nor can the various depths of purples and golds in my labradorite necklace. These were my second and third purchases and I can't recommend Rissa Rae Moonstone enough if you are searching for a particular crystal and type of amulet to serve you through a portion of your life. Scroll through the catalogue and see which one "calls out" to you (what you see is what you are sent)! If you have any questions don't be afraid to reach out to their customer service (which is another facet of a phenomenal experience and icing on the cake). Thank you again, Rissa Rae Moonstone!" What crystal or special propertied stone will call out in 2021, I can't wait to find out and am ready to listen. Rissa Rae Moonstone *Reviews composed in November 2020 It may be nearly December and there is frost on the windows, but my mind (and nose) have been enjoying a very atypical fall and winter collection of scent collages from Stone & Wit. Who knew you could find unique summertime fruit perfumes in the final throes of autumn tide. Full Transparency: I was offered these samples for an exchange of an honest review.--These are my thoughts. Longevity: Varies between 2 hours (Why Would You Make This!?) to 8 hours (with Ashara) A few words on the stickers: Seeing stickers in packages just touches on some nearly forgotten nostalgic element for me and I get very excited to add indie stickers to my work badge and computer top. Stone & Wit's stickers are excellent quality and I love the smooth matte vinyl finish that goes so well with the printed theme. Mine is still where I stuck it and hasn't slid or melted. *$0.5 from each sticker purchased will be donated to Lotus House Women and Youth Shelter. Onto the perfumes, in order of favourites choices: Turyin (Notes:Pomegranate, plums, sandalwood, gunpowder) A spread of rarely seen notes that I could bathe in. The dark delicious fruits are most dominant on me and the mineral gritty smoke of the gunpowder slowly dirties up the juicy top notes as the hours tick by. I don't smell any sandalwood which is very curious because I normally amplify any hidden creamy woodiness of sandalwood in other perfumes. Slight negative aside, I love the seductive wafts of the pomegranate and plum that catch me off guard when I turn my head and I'm going to call it, TURYIN is my favourite blend I have tried from this house of fragrance, sorry Etta you have been toppled off your throne. We Played Our Records Backwards Too Many Times (Notes: Black cherry, orchids, vetiver, coffee) This opens with creamy dreamy cherry sherbet then slowly morphs with dark coffee beans and vetiver smelling oddly like an aged record then back to soft cherry dessert! The orchids adds a hint of dusty powder to the mix and I'm absolutely thrown for a loop on this blend. Bravo! Why Would You Make This!? (Watermelon, lime, bergamot, paprika, raisins, apples, sichuan pepper) Despite the name this perfume is very wearable and still hits all the unique points of the unexpected. It's spicy, weirdly creamy and savory fruit laced. I get the wet rind of a melon, the distinct aroma of a box of sweet raisins and something smelling akin to vanilla under the warm spices. Definitely unlike anything I have in my vast collection. Ashara (Notes: Black Ink, Nilgiri Tea, White Agar and Palm Dates) This one takes several minutes to calm down from brash tea then a lovely ink from a pen and sweetness of the dates amplifes and lasts hours. The only agar I'm familiar with is for cooking and I do get saltiness from Ashara under the soft fruit and realistic ink. As it is further drying down I smell something akin to aged paper which I really enjoy. This one is a keeper. Frith (Notes: Blueberry, dandelion greens, sage, witch hazel, vetiver) First can we stop and applaud the unique choice of notes and clever homage to the book Watership Down? This isn't your everyday type of fragrance and I must admit it does turn perfumey for me in the end but the beginning is magical with the realistic bright greenery cutting through the vinegar quality of the witch hazel which I could douse myself in (I love vinegar). It's when the blueberry first begins to disappear that Frith morphs and loses that initial green magic. The final note of vetiver keeps everything from becoming soapy and adds some earthy realism back to the mix but I'm sad to say this is just missing something for me that I can't identify or it's the blueberry that is throwing me off. I think this fragrant ode to Watership Down will serve me better as a whipped soap additive in the coming months. Stone & Wit Sometimes you don't know what to say except "thank you" and weep for such an outstanding act of kindness. That's exactly what I did when I was sent these gorgeous swan earrings from the owner of Boheme Bijou out of the clear blue. They encompass the sweetest and most elegant representations of history and the Art Nouveau movement (as well of a bit of the Art Deco style) so popular during the end of the 19th into the early 20th century (eras this indie artist excels at). I simply adore them and look out in 2021 for an Anna Pavlovna Pavlova and her pet swan Jack themed post to appear on my page on social media all because of these inspired stunners. Thank you so much again, Constance! Boheme Bijou My nose really can take me to some bizarre places, take for a good example this next house of fragrance called Redwood Alchemy that promised quite the fragrance journey with a just released scent of a trip to the drive-in that involved classic buttery and sweet popcorn with a splash of spilled blood. You read that right, BLOOD. Being that wondrous time of the year when the werewolves, ghosts and vampires roamed, I had to try this blend (with fingers crossed my secret search had come to an end of finding a realistic gore fest from the indie world and not just a dragon's blood substitute) and I also grabbed a few others that were calling me. All I can say, this was strangely beautiful introduction and the start of another list of recommendations. ___________________________________________________ *Reviews composed in November 2020 The gorgeous Hallowe'en Full Moon has come and gone along with a much-needed sugar kick (it was a Taurus moon afterall and it needed to be toasted with an indulgence or two; so no shame) and the howling winds of winter have unexpectedly come abanging at the shutters for many tonight. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm never ready for those frigid reminders and luckily I can keep those types of unwanted demons at bay with slathering myself in powerful scent potions from the indie realm. My latest little trove of themed fragrances arrived from Redwood Alchemy and as the title says: "When it is Hallowe'en every day with indies, the ghosts and vampires never have to fade away" So let's call forth four special selections and a surprise fifth that showed up at my door at the perfect moment. Purchased: October 7th and delivered October 17th Longevity: Between an impressive 15+ hours (Anubis) to 4 hours (Murder At The Movies) on the skin One Note At A Time: Murder At The Movies (Description: Pull up to the Drive-In with your sweetheart for this midnight Blood and Kettle corn double-feature. The cozy familiar fragrance of warm, buttery, carmel topped popcorn with a caustic splattering of sweet metallic blood.) Notes: Popcorn, Butter, Carmel and Blood Murder At the Movies is buttery sweet and carries a realistic tang of salty metallic blood which is all oddly comforting and completely unique within my collection. It's one seriously twisted playful perfume with a satisfying unnerving element you can't wait to share with others and also has some unexplained sleep/relaxation quality to it I wasn't expecting. Who knew a sinister gourmand could help me drift off to dreamland (and could be so wearable). Longevity varies on where I place the oil, on my wrists and arms about 4 hours, on my neck about 6 hours; while in my hair or at the hairline on my neck 10 hours. Areté (Description: As ephemeral as the fae winds - sweet & musky.) Notes: Lily of the Valley, Vanilla, Amber, Cashmere As it says in the tin and how this shop's stellar customer service painted it- haunting and ethereal. I've only had my mini bottle of Areté a few weeks, but I'm already impressed and want to try more. The spice note (very much like coriander) that appears first to the nose is another welcome surprise from this sample box and I'm downright smitten with the romantic musky vanilla and Lily of the Valley that manifests and stays for hours afterward and lends to an overall expensive smelling vintage-esque quality that fits in perfectly with my personal aesthetic and is right at home on my vintage vanity table. This is the scent of a romantic ghost of beauty. I can't wait to see (and smell) what else this charming little house of fragrance has planned next. Cyanide (A poisonously sweet fragrance that combines the scent of bitter almonds with hints of toxic fruit pits like apple, apricot and peach that dries down to a venomous sweet almond spice.) Notes: Almond, Cherries, Clove Top marks for overall presentation and fine attention to detail of these fragrances even right down to the font type on the vintage-esque apothecary bottles. When it comes to Cyanide, my black little heart skips a beat how dead-on sinister this smells and the applaudable research that obviously went into this perfume's creation. This isn't a child-like candy fruit perfume, (so gentle wearer beware), Cyanide coils about your senses with a distinct cherry bitter almond aroma and further plays on your most dark fantasies with an additional drop or two of warm spice. Perfect for reading some fiendish unsolved murder mystery whilst enjoying a piping cup of tea or stepping out for the night where a few raised and intrigued eyebrows will be sure to appear. Now that's a perfume worthy of the name of Cyanide. Anubis (Description: This Egyptian funeral fragrance embodies an authentic herbal mix of wood resins, oils, aromatic spices and papyrus reminiscent of actual mummification materials used in ancient Egypt.) Notes: No listed notes One of the myriad things I love about Indie Perfumes is how they can transport you to new worlds and Anubis is a directly sweeping fragrance back through the sands of time to a royal funeral in Ancient Egypt. Quite a few precious resins make up this blend and my nose detects the almost lemony frankincense amplifying above them all with various dry herbs, a floral akin to geranium and a hint of salt. The promised papyrus is the last note to leave me 15 hours later and this was exactly what I was hoping for when I ordered this mini sample bottle- a well-researched scent experience not of this century. But wait, there's more! I'll be right baaack... *I almost changed my carefully planned costume idea of a Victorian Vampire Aristocrat this year for a seductive Cleopatra after trying Anubis, it has that power to turn everything on its head. Ah, but one little surprise addition that I found nestled in my box of olfactory delights whipped that Victorian Vampire idea back and made my gothic heart sing! A WHITE WHALE HAS BEEN FOUND. BLOOD layering note No listed notes but if I had to give my best guess, the darkest reaches of the scent imagination. You want unique, here it is- the truest smelling blood accord I have found in the indie world and it layers marvellously well with all my fiendish themed perfumes; now that's scent sorcery! For this Halloween, I donned Sixteen92's Mina Harker and added the perfect finishing touch of Redwood Alchemy's BLOOD accord under my lace gloves and behind my ears and the combination that wafted around me was hypnotic and empowering. The sharpness of the cold plums was amplified and the metallic tang of BLOOD entwined with the hidden typewriter ink, powdery violets and old fashioned skin cream of Mina Harker created a whole new fragrance story that I would have dearly loved to have shared with a dark stranger as we waltzed in the moonlight that night, but alas 2020 had other ideas. Atleast, in my mind I was whirling around and dreaming of what may come in 2021. BLOOD will be staying on my vanity and adding its unique touch to everything. Bravo, Redwood Alchemy! Redwood Alchemy *Reviews composed in October/November 2020 Folktale Bath Apothecary I don't know about anyone else, but it honestly seems Indie Artists are secretly reading our scent diaries or wishlists, haha. This autumn alone I was treated to unexpectedly seeing one of my favourite films and tasty guilty pleasures in life being offered in indie forms within the same week and well I went ahauling. This is Part II of the reason(s) I have no desire to leave my tub and am continually tempted throughout the day to nibble my hair. Sleepy Hollow Collection Olde Fashioned Gingerbread Scent Notes: Sticky gingerbread, autumn spices, and frosting. This smells exactly like a Gingerbread Loaf my English Grandmother used to make during the colder months, the sweetness of black treacle and spice is all there with a generous layer of vanilla custard. I don't associate this fragrance with Christmas, this is a fall type of "gingerbread"; an icing encased bouncy thick cake versus a drier traditional cookie. The owner cleverly nailed the Sleepy Hollow theme with this well-executed Olde Fashioned Gingerbread, I can easily imagine this cake aroma wafting from a side table in a quaint 18th-century country village; it's perfect. When it comes to the formula of this soap, my sensitive skin just drinks in this soap and I'm so happy I went for the larger bar as I can enjoy this delight anytime during the year with no breakouts to worry about. The Sleepy Hollow Soap Sample Pack (6) collection Another over the moon experience with this amazing little shop! This soap sample collection was the perfect option for me as I had the chance to try every delightful and devilish offering of the Sleepy Hollow release. The sizes of the bars were still extremely generous and I can easily see receiving months worth of use for mere pennies! Each sample carries its own character and the artistry that goes into each soap creation (and packaging/presentation) needs to be applauded. The swirls, peaks and colourful flashes just easily catch the eye and these slabs of historical and literature inspiration would look divine displayed in a guest bathroom ready to welcome all home for the holidays. The Headless Horseman Scent notes: Dragon's blood resin, earth & moss As it says on the tin, sweet dragon's blood cut thru with rich notes of earth and rusted metal (depending how your nose interprets patchouli). It's a clever simple fragrant medley made all the more striking with the vibrant shades of orange, yellow and red layered with charcoal creating the impression of rising flames within the bar. Another beautiful piece of scented bath art to recommend that not only looks attractive displayed on the bath ledge but gently treats those of us with sensitive skin and has added benefits of charcoal for troubled skin as well. Almond Plum and Apple Crumble Scent Notes: Toasted Almonds, Sugared Plums & Sweet Apples My favourite sample out of the bunch and fingers crossed this delectable fragrance will return next year in a hair oil or perfume because this one is good enough to tempt a bite out the soap bar and I would love to be wrapped all around with this fruity delight from head to toe. I enjoy canning and baking during the colder months and Almond Plum and Apple Crumble smells exactly like the real thing with cooked plums and apple simmering in the pot and a soft crumbly almond crust and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Just like Olde Fashioned Gingerbread I can imagine this aroma wafting from an 18th-century New England sideboard ready to be devoured by all those welcome to the table. A must-try if you love realistic plum or dark fruit scents. Sleepy Hollow Pumpkin Pie Scent Notes: Spiced Pumpkin & Apple Pie with Butterscotch This one is for those that love the sweet in life and not so much the spice. I was looking for a pungent rich spiced pumpkin fragrance to wash away my anxieties and ease my tight muscles, but I get more thick butterscotch, traditional pie crust and sweet apple than creamy warm pumpkin. I'll happily stick with Olde Fashioned Gingerbread and Almond Plum and Apple Crumble for those days I need to float away. Olde Fashioned Gingerbread Scent Notes: Sticky gingerbread, autumn spices, and frosting. *Addendum to above, in addition to it smelling like thick moist cake, it has the bonus of having real cocoa powder between the layers. Watch it (and others) being made here I love watching soap making videos, it's like baking only with a fragrant bubbly bar you get to rub all over yourself and can forget about the pesky extra calories (let's explore that thought, they seriously need to create edible soap bars; that and smell-o-vision)! Mists & Magic Scent Notes: Earl Grey Tea & Vanilla Bathing in tea and I'm one happy lady. This smells realistic with soft lemony tea and a non-gourmand vanilla undertone that is lovely and unexpected. This is another blend I would love to own a hair oil in and see a perfume for others. I'm not surprised this particular bar sold out so quickly. The Pickety Witch (soap and perfume oil) Scent Notes: Warm & Rich Amber, Vanilla & Clove *a sample vial was found tucked into my purchased order all done up in a fitting black organza bag) The Pickety Witch, The Pickety Witch. Who's got a kiss for The Pickety Witch? Hehe oh this one is a bit naughty and mysterious. It's only 3 listed notes but these are blended marvellously together and I get this heated stickiness and some unlisted floral (rose or violet?) underneath the romantic vanilla. The clove stays true and adds a dry warmth to the sweeter notes and in regards to the longevity, The Pickety Witch still turns my head 5 hours later. The soap bar version of this fragrance all the previous positives are true with the bonus of the romantic vanilla amplified slightly to my nose. It's a sultry bath delight made all the more relaxing with the gorgeous black, gold and purple swirls in the bar you can just lose yourself in. Country Market Crafts Blame it on the Peanut Butter craving again (haha) as I found myself at yet another doorway to a new house of fragrance in the hopes of smelling like one of life's wonderful guilty pleasures. Leave-In Hair Conditioner / Detangling Spray in Peanut Butter Cookie As it says on the tin, this smells like a freshly baked Peanut Butter Cookie, right down to the perfect golden underside, but the scent only lasts 10 seconds in my hair before disappearing completely and leaving softness and impressive manageability for my long mane. My thick waist-length hair acts as a sponge when it comes to different scents so I shouldn't be surprised. My bottle is nearly empty a month later so even with that unfortunate negative of the scent disappearing it's still safe to say this purchase was an absolute winner when it comes to the formula. Next time I'll go with Snickerdoodle or something heavily spiced or fruit laced. Delicious lesson learned. Bath Bomb in Sleepy Time Scent Notes: Lavender, Chamomile and Lily of Valley *a surprise gift with purchase sample Every time I step into my water-filled sanctuary and all my cares float away in a fragrant cloud of vibrant coloured bubbles, I always ask myself "how on earth I have gone this far in life without trying bath bombs?" They are seriously heaven sent and this shop's formula is impressive, very gentle plus long-lasting with the fragrance that is both sweetly herbal and floral. It's another lovely addition to my favourite things in my bath to recommend. *Reviews composed in October 2020 There is nothing like a good long soak and wanting to wrap yourself in a blanket of comforting fragrance especially during this most wonderful time of the year. Others may seek apple, teas or grab for cottony linen scents to fulfill those wishes, but for me, I hunt for warm spice and delicious pumpkin and wow, did I find a whole trove of fragrant autumnal delights this year. This is Part I of the reason I have no desire to leave my tub and am continually tempted throughout the day to nibble my hair, haha. Alchemic Muse (also on ETSY) Pumpkin Lilac hair mist/styling spray (scent notes: A rich, sweet blend with whispers of lilac petals and autumn lily flowers followed by a heart of pumpkin seeds, spicy coriander, cinnamon sugar and cashmere vanilla and anchored with notes of amber, cedar wood and sheer musk.) This hidden little gem of a store excels at creating stunning floral blends and quasi-gourmands and my hair mist of Pumpkin Lilac was a perfect example at the artistry this shop can offer, as it showcases creamy sweet spice, herbs and lovely ghostly florals and soft timeless elegance. I can't stop carefully spritzing my curls and huffing the comforting sugared spice. The formula is gentle though effective as I can set marcel waves or pinup curls easily overnight. I do have to watch how much I spray as I can easily turn full bouncy glossy looking strands in the mirror to straight greasy weighted down tendrils. It's a constant balancing act with my finicky hair, but after 4 bottles from this charming little shop I think I have it down and I keep reaching for this formula. I did notice with Pumpkin Lilac the fragrance doesn't have the thick floral throw that my bottles of Ostara and Dreamcatcher can produce with an extra accidental spritz. Another curious thing to jot down is the divine aroma in the bottle is getting stronger by the week. I would love this scent in a perfume or soap bar. Fingers crossed it returns next year. Pumpkin Cocoa perfume (A scrumptious treat of freshly carved pumpkin drizzled with rich Belgian chocolate and cocoa absolute lightly dusted with warm spice.) *a sample vial found nestled in my order Just like the hair mist fragrance, this perfume is gaining strength every day and I'm in love as this one is absolutely delectable. Pumpkin Cocoa opens with realistic dry cocoa and floured pumpkin cookies sprinkled with cinnamon then morphs throughout the day to mouthwatering hidden gooey marshmallow. I think we have a new autumnal favourite here and the starting of another mass of samples because I MUST now explore Alchemic Muse's full Pumpkinfest collection. This Pumpkin Whore is impressed! This next indie bath shop is somewhat familiar in a unique way as the owner is none other than B Perry and the original owner and creator of Villainess Soap, so I knew I was already in a mistress's realm with self pampering bath treats and I waited excitedly for their pumpkin option to appear on my screen. In the meantime I learned all I could about the distinct dessert menu type of choices before deciding on a layering combination with the 'Pinup Pumpkin'. I initially only planned to purchase one pot to introduce myself to Sugar Spider's soap and scrub formulas and fragrances but what can I say? So many combinations called me with their sweet siren calls and then I finished off each bath confection with something called Glitterkruimel (one of the best decisions I made that month)! Here were my final choices and thoughts. Sugar Spider Body Scrubs Jar 1 with layers of: Topping of Glitterkruimmel Pinup Pumpkin (Creamy pumpkin, tangy cheesecake, a sweet caramel sauce, and a flirty touch of spice) Devil's Food (Dark chocolate, more chocolate, some cake, and a bitter splash of espresso.) Pinup Pumpkin (Creamy pumpkin, tangy cheesecake, a sweet caramel sauce, and a flirty touch of spice) Chantilly Crème Ganache (Smooth, sweet vanilla bean and other delights) This particular concoction smells of pumpkin latte and sweet pretzels and the consistency is just fascinating as it comes out of the jar as part sticky pliable dough and sugar paste. A spoon was required and completed this fun illusion of enjoying some fantastical dessert. The scrub itself has a perfect balance of polish and fragrant sparkles. I feel so pampered and this scrub did a phenomenal job on my elbows and heels. Now that's how to wash away a lousy week and start anew. Jar 2 with layers of: Topping of Glitterkruimmel Pinup Pumpkin (Creamy pumpkin, tangy cheesecake, a sweet caramel sauce, and a flirty touch of spice) Ghost Chocolate (Stark white chocolate haunted with a breath of cardamom.) Pinup Pumpkin (Creamy pumpkin, tangy cheesecake, a sweet caramel sauce, and a flirty touch of spice) Blue Marshmello Ganache (Sweet, sticky, marshmallow fluff) Jar 1 was lovely, but Jar 2 is simply sublime! I get my spice and luscious pumpkin cheesecake (complete with a hint of graham cracker) along with the unmistakable aromas of creamy tempered white chocolate and fresh marshmallows. I want to eat the contents and I can't get my nose out of jar, haha (I did end up with a bit of glitterkruimmel on my nose as my reward for my childlike antics and I had a good laugh in the mirror later that night). For this scent confection, the warm spice is offset by the creaminess of the cheesecake and white chocolate with a heavenly marshmallow finish. As I explored each layer I noticed the "ganaches" are a softer soap with powdered sugar added and would gently foam when rubbed on the skin. Overall I'm completely enamoured and will be ordering more jars, Speculoos, Peppermint Schtick, Dead Lilacs and of course moar PINUP PUMPKIN, all call me! *review written in July 2020 I became aware of Folktale Bath Apothecary through a "story" on social media and one peek at their enchanting aesthetic and I knew I had to give them a whirl. I was very fortunate at that time I started delving into their catalogue they offered some lilac scented items and well the rest is history, haha. I ordered on July 11th as a late birthday gift to myself and my parcel shipped the next day and arrived the 22nd from Canada. Everything came in quaint packaging and was even sealed with fitting black wax with their emblem. It pained me to rip the paper and break the seals but the smell of delicate lilacs and seductive pomegranate called from within. I meant to wait for Sunday to indulge but in all honesty, I needed a reason to smile and special boost today so I sliced a portion of the Lilac soap and grabbed the ultra generous sized samples and locked myself away from the world. The following were my overall impressions. ____________________________________________________________ ✒All hair items below were used by themselves with no additional argan oils or detanglers used. I wanted to get the full true effect. ✒For those curious I have thick fine waist-length hair that loves to tangle and knot. I can't think of a more worthy opponent for a hair product, can you? Lilac Blooms Artisan Soap (sweet, delicate scent of lilacs) (Ingredients: Aqua, sodium olivate, sodium cocoate, sodium sunflowerseedate, sodium castorate, parfum, mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, manganese violet) The one that tempted me from the corners of the web and I'm over the moon with this soap bar. The scent is what it says on the tin, delicate and beguiling lilacs. When it comes to the formula this bar passed every test I threw at it with flying colours. It was moisturizing, realistically fragrant without being heady (the scent lasted only as long as it took to rinse off) and (probably the most challenging test of them all) it didn't break me out on my face or shoulders. In fact, my face is petal-soft even without my nightly cold cream. I must also mention for the price of the soap bar, the slice is nicely sized and I definitely received my money's worth. It's a lovely swirled floral chunk! Lilac Blooms Luxury Hair Oil (Ingredients: Prunus armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Parfum) When it comes to hair oils, this goldilocks is quite picky. I can't abide too greasy or sticky formulas that leaves my tresses looking like I didn't even bother to wash or style my hair and I will instantly regret choosing a brand if I can detect the base oil over the promised fragrance on the bottle. It's an arduous quest but Folktale Bath conjured up some real magic with their hair oil and presented a wonderful balance of hair-loving and effective oil; my locks just drank this formula in and it defined my curls nicely with the promised dainty scent of spring lilacs and still managed to stay soft to the touch when my hair dried. I'm impressed. ____________________________________________________ 🌠The following were found nestled among my purchases, thank you Folktale Bath Apothecary! Blackbird Cottage Artisan Soap (scent: fresh, sweet fig jam and sweet black currants) (Ingredients: Aqua, sodium olivate, sodium cocoate, sodium sunflowerseedate, sodium castorate, parfum, titanium dioxide, tin oxide, iron oxide, carbon) As with the Lilac Blooms bar, the formula is incredible and I greatly appreciate that the soap slice doesn't immediately melt away so they will last quite a while. The scent of Blackbird Cottage I'm still trying to puzzle together, it's sweet and playful with a bit of wicked mysterious edge. I like it but I'm not sure I would purchase a larger bar. Perhaps I'll change my mind in the coming weeks before this shop unveils some Fall scent treats. Solid Shampoo Bar in Villainess (scent: Pomegranate, Warm Vanilla, Sacred Woods) (Ingredients: Sodium Lauryl, Sulfoacetate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Cocamidopropyl, Betaine, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Butylene Glycol, Sodium Lactate, Hydrolyzed Silk, DL-Panthenol, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol & Caprylyl Glycol & Sorbic Acid) It's hard to believe I've gone this far in life without trying a shampoo bar but here we are tonight, haha. This sample was the most fragrant of them all as I immediately smelled the dark alluring pomegranate wafting from the paper and something like amber hiding just underneath the tempting fruit. As I said this was a first for me so I learned eventually through my bath and shower that cold water is not as effective as hot warm to get the silky froth going with Villainess. Once I learned that little lesson I immediately felt a positive change under my fingers with the texture of my hair. That feeling only magnified itself as I rinsed, towelled my head and started brushing out my long mane. It's so soft and it did a decent job with aiding in detangling alone (with a lovely aroma of romantic vanilla to top things off). After all that, I went to the ETSY site and started loading up my basket from this charming storefront, but noticed the shampoo bar was missing. Messaging the owner (fabulous customer service by the way; very courteous, knowledgeable and prompt) I was told that the shampoo bars will be restocked in the coming weeks. Good thing because Villainess and me are quite the pair and I feel the need to hoard, haha. I finally found an elegant pomegranate fragrance that brings to mind what Persephone would don. The search is over. Folktale Bath Apothecary I don't know about anyone else but I love having a vast fragrance wardrobe for myself and for my home. Enter Willow WaxCraft which has become my go-to for one-of-a-kind candle melts that transform my humble abode into scenes of fantasy, cinematic treasures (from the silver screen and small screen), creepy barns or dusty tombs and rich creatives tableaus from novels and classic poems. This is one shop that isn't afraid to go out of the box with themes and complex scent compositions. For throw, I haven't found none better as I click my wax melter on in the morning and I get wafts of magical aromas all day throughout my house (especially with the fans going) and can even smell the melts when they are "cold" and back in solid wax form in the melting bowl. Funny enough this turned out to be my fifth revisit to this charming shop after I had every intention to wait until November to purchase another wax sampler, but with the exciting teaser and introduction of Bangarang (inspired by HOOK) plus my odd lack of spring-time scents for my bedroom. I had to indulge just a little, hehe. These were my impressions and observations to share (I am not affiliated, these are just the facts). -The sampler pack is the best way to introduce yourself to this brand as you get 4 covered candle melts that can be cut up and they last quite a while (mine from 2 years ago are still going strong). -Sign up for the newsletter and join the little club they offer and you get 10% off your orders and any additional ones with a special code. -Their packaging is ready for any type of gift-giving or shower/wedding decorating ideas. It's very elegant and yet whimsical (oh and complete with delicious exotic candies and a darling thank you card). -I have found the fragrances deepen and morph on every following melting versus on the first (although the first is amazing, just you wait for all the notes to bloom and shift). They get better and better with every time. On to the scents: Bangarang (Description/Notes: The smell of a hundred fun summers, sleeping in trees and riding the back of the wind. You’ll find your happy thought with this cheerful blend of candied dates, key lime and vanilla whipped cream, zesty lemon curd, tangerine sorbet, crisp water mint and tangy sea breezes. Fly. Fight. Crow.) This is a dream. It smells like the most delicious lemon cookie and whipped cream dessert you could imagine and it's even sprinkled with pixie dust! The throw is impressive as I sit at the kitchen table typing, I can clearly smell it wafting from my bedroom upstairs. Bangarang will be my next full-sized purchase ("clamshell") as I feel I'm melting happy thoughts and a bit of magic! Lady of the Lake (Description/Notes: Inspired by the protector of Avalon, the mythical Insula Pomona (island of apples). A blend of earl grey and green teas, apple, hyacinth, ozone, datura, and delicate white musk.) Another lovely morpher from this charming little storefront as the cold scent is a clean fruit and floral combination that leans into an expensive hair conditioner type of aroma but, oh my, when it is melted then the true majestic elements come out and my kitchen is transformed into the lush shores of Avalon with apple wafting on the breezes and the final hyacinths of the season uncurling with the mystic mists. My mother even complimented Lady of the Lake and that is HUGE! Midsummer Night's Dream (Description/Notes: A moonlit excursion to the woodland faerie realm-lavender, musk, vanilla, sparkling green moss, and a canopy of wild honeysuckle overhead. Sweet slumbers!) This is soft and powdery with the lavender leaning more towards pillowy versus herbal or garden-fresh. The green notes blend in with the powdery impression when I walk upstairs while the anticipated honeysuckle is slightly noticeable when I get within a foot of the melter. Overall an elegant welcoming fragrance and it suits my home's aesthetic, it's a keeper. Stay Golden (Notes: Sea spray and shady pines, mimosas on the lanai, and a complementary blend of sultry magnolia, gentle tea rose, and bright orange blossom.) What, were you expecting cheesecake?) I have waited a long time for some creative soul to take on the fun spirit of The Golden Girls and here is a beautiful representation of some of my favourite episodes and quotes. This is bright and fruity and as promised it has some unexpected playful magnetic sparkle. For a full representation of the characters, I'm sadly missing Dorothy and Sophia (other than the reference to the shady pines) as Stay Golden belongs to fragrant mentions of Blanche and Rose. I still love this melt and I also love that colour of this wax is an 80's and early 90's style pink-peach just like the shoulder-padded power suits we all remember (or wish to forget, haha) and of course the couch in the girls' living room; very clever and a nice extra touch! I also received some lovely extras (Thank you so much, Willow WaxCraft!) Primaveral (Description/Notes: Those precious and rare late winter days that *almost* feel like spring. Wild honey, morning glory, and sweet cherry blossom with cool garden greens and zesty dill weed.) Where has this delight been hiding?! I can't stop swinging open my bedroom door to sniff this wax tart. It smells green, creamy and the delicate floral pairing is simply beautiful. The second melting revealed the floral honey and the zip of the dill weed. This is a spring morning captured and into my basket this treasure goes. Can this be made into a perfume? - Speaking of perfumes the talented scent artist at Willow WaxCraft also dabbles in some perfumery and she was so incredibly sweet to send me a pot of her first creation in one of my favourite blends she makes called The Long Night (Balsam fir, sacred frankincense and myrrh, beeswax candles, sweet oud, blood orange, clove, cinnamon leaf, and vanilla). The cinnamon is absent in the solid perfume form (to make it skin safe and agreeable with those with allergies or sensitivities) but honestly, it's still amazing (still somehow smells spicy in a good way) and this lasted through an intense workout and me dashing about the house (about 5 hours). The orange and resins are the most dominant on me and I have been using this to get motivated as I loved how this smelled on me when I was hot and needed to go another 10 minutes. I seriously hope this means other melt forms will have a perfume solid double soon because I'm impressed (I can think of 6 perfumes I would buy in a heartbeat, uh oh, haha). Balm of Gilead (Notes: Lipstick (powdery violet, orris, and rose), fresh baked bread, glossy magazine pages, and sweet buttercream. Don't let the bastards grind you down.) Anyone that knows me wouldn't be surprised I have an affinity for the distinct fragrance of vintage lipstick and anything baked and they won't be shocked in the slightest that when they enter my home this summer, Balm of Gilead is one of the scents that will be greeting them. This is superb and I get every note on the first melt, nothing overbalances the other and I hope this is one of the finalists to consider making into a solid perfume. In the meantime, into the basket this melt goes. I meant to hold onto these reviews until after I was able to get my tresses trimmed and coloured plus could take (or attempt to; sorry I'm not photographer) a more flattering picture, but who knows when that'll be and with so many opportunities occurring at the moment for everyone to get outside (on the porch, deck or breezeway; let's not go crazy now), shut off the lights to embrace the darkness and stare into the vast heavens for once in a lifetime astronomic type shows, this just seemed like the perfect time to share my mini earring haul from Serene Garlands Vampire Bat Earrings - Count Dracula - Gothic Victorian Demon - Crimson Red Blood Swarovski - Silver Gargoyle In the description on the shop page it says these were fashioned after a famous guitar player (I wonder who?) but for me when I first saw them, the iconic quote "I have crossed oceans of time to find you" immediately came to mind and I got chills even before reading the name of the creation or accompanying writeup. I had to have them. Now that I am fortunate to wear such stunning trinkets, I can see the workmanship and detail in the metal and the almost supernatural glow of the red crystals (honestly is there anything better than Swarovski? I don't think so). What a dazzling find and I can't wait to don these beauties and turn some heads. I've never seen anything like them and they really are heirloom quality. Art Nouveau Earrings, Half Moon Earrings, Moon Goddess Earrings, Moon Earrings, Art Nouveau Lady Goddess Earrings, Celestial, Stevie Nicks Another unique design I have never seen before and I fully admit once I learned they were based on one of my favourite musicians, into the basket they went, haha. I also adore the Art Nouveau movement in art and furnishing motifs so these pieces of mini art called to me from many angles. Wearing them, they are light, silhouette my neck nicely and the flash and twinkle of the moonlight crystal is a lovely finishing touch. They came in the option of silver or brass and the silver matches everything in my wardrobe and yes I have been singing Rhiannon in the vanity mirror since they have arrived. I'd say my first 2 purchases were first-rate successes and I have dozens of additional pieces waiting in my basket from Serene Garlands and The Mourning Era (both owned by the same jewellery artist) one shop showcases lovely cherubs, roses and iconic birds and the other storefront makes my black little heart flutter with all the elegant Victorian-esque gothic jewellery options. It's like two sides of a personality, I love it! Serene Garlands I now own several pairs of historical inspired earrings and necklaces all fashioned by this talented artist (who may very well be a time traveller) and when speaking about the above pictured I have been searching years for emerald themed earrings such as these. What a find and what a joy to see different beloved eras of study in the design (I see Edwardian and Tudor). I can't stop looking at them! They just glow with intensity in the lamplight and I have so many outfits to match these earrings with. When it comes to Boheme Bijou it's phenomenal customer service and quality and attention to detail from bygone eras of romance and class that is all unsurpassed in my book. Boheme Bijou |
